    So with MASKED, you can be part of it without being part of it but if you want to be part of it you are also not part of it but still part of it without ever being part of it?

    What about having static video cameras? I made a fast check on forums and dont see anything about that; I saw some post that talks about use cameras to control gunturrets and so but I dont refer to that.
     First of all I have to say that I dont know if it already exists in other games or how hard would it be to implement it so I will throw some ideas:
     
    - The core of this idea is to have a static device that bring you images or vision of a zone. Not recording video, just real time video.
     
    - There would be a pure device who would be linked to a static core and drain energy and computing power from it to work, just like a surveillance closed camera system. Only could be linked to Static cores, not to Dinamic cores. Intended to have vision of a gate or your own base when it is attacked and you are far away.
     
    - The other would be a portable system that works with batteries, they are stationary once installed and have a limited radio fo emision. They are intended to bring you info for example meanwhile you are focused mining an asteroid in a dangerous zone bringing you time to run away.
     
    These devices, and mainly the portables ones, may be easily spotted and vulnerable to any kind of atack.
     
     I see that idea could derivate in George Orwell's planets or be used to make mechs driven from a secure spot. Cause of that I will make enphasis in the static part But my idea is to keep it stick to this 2 devices.
     If it is so hard to achieve I thought that a device who send you reports when someone go through his action radius would be enough.
     
    Ideas and/or thoughts?

    Everything that follows are examples. You need roles on a Battleship Archonius because otherwise it gets pretty boring for others in this MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER online game. It has nothing to do with me being from medieval times. If you need more ideas, just use your brain to make some more roles up
     
    Navigation
    -bonus to velocity
    -bonus to turning speed
    -bonus to travel time with FTL
     
    Engineering
    -bonus on travel time with FTL
    -bonus on power/wattage of the DPU (you can fit more on your ship)
    -bonus to engines (more hp)
     
    Weapons
    -bonus to target time
    -bonus to weapon range
    -bonus to ROF
    -bonus to damage
     
    Driving
    -bonus to overall maneuverability
    -faster recovery from impacts
    -less fuel consumption (FTL/atmospheric/space)
     
    Shields
    -bonus to hp
    -faster recharge
    -faster shifting of certain attributes (make it stronger against EM damage for example but less against thermal)
     
    Armor

    -bonus to hp
    -faster repair (when someone actively repairs it)
    -faster shifting of certain attributes (make it stronger against EM damage for example but less against thermal)
     

    Power management
    -turrets/antennas/engines/whatever element needs less wattage from DPU
    -rerouting of power possible ("overload" shield/weapons/whatever to get more hp/more dmg/faster recharge/whatever)
     
    Communication
    -bonus to scanner range
    -bonus to target information (velocity/players on board/weapons/whatever)
    -bonus to target more ships at once and track them
     
    Fleet command
    -bonus to whole fleet of whatever (more hp/dmg/faster/whatever)-
    -sensor linking of the fleet (like in World of Tanks - scout sees someone but you are too far away -> you see him because of link)
    -special maneuvers for the fleet that give a special bonus
     
    Those are only a few possibilities you have with manning a ship. For each of those mentioned you could have skills -> players have to specialize -> enforces teamplay -> no one is a one man army -> more fun for everyone -> newbros have an actual goal and purpose and are not rendered useless because they lack overall skillpoints (they only need to be a specialist in ONE discipline!)

    oh and for the actual gameplay: I'm sure you're intelligent enough so you can come up with your own ideas how these roles can be played on a ship.
    Make interfaces (scripted with lua) so
    the engineer can repair stuff from his console
    the driver perhaps has a 3rd person view (non zoomable/rotateable) to fly with ease
    the navigator has a 3rd person vied (zoom/rotateable) so he can see whats going on on the battlefield)
    the captain has screens where all infos run together
    the shield guy has a console where he can shift the shields
    the communication officer has a ship-wide ingame voice to command the people on the ship as the captain says
    the fleet communicator has an uplink to the fleet and sees the whole stuff as a tactical map and communicates with the fleet

    It takes time to gather players to your group, most of the big groups have been around for almost a year. If you want my advice, don't set out to get tons of people. Just find a couple people who you like to play with and work on your idea, making your group as good as you can. More people will come over time if you have a quality group.

    There are no mining ships in DU. You need planetary lander vehicles for that. (To get your people on the ground that is) 
    Your idea should work out quite well when you stay in the move

    First of all, welcome to the community! Always glad to see new people coming in.

    Another nomadic org, but this time with a twist. I like the idea of a "perpetually growing" construct, giving people a sense of progression and a goal to work towards is vital to a stable Environment. And "The Cluster" is a pretty cool name. You took a good idea, made it a bit more awesome and packaged it well, so I wish you best of luck with that project. Getting members can be difficult these days, so be sure to stay on it, you're heading in a good direction!

    Welcome to the Dual Universe forums! Cool idea for sure. Not the first nomadic org, but the first I've personally seen like this. Croomar is right, it maintains a sort of perptual goal for people to constantly work towards.
     
    The advice you should consider is the same for all those who wish to make their living on the move, and that is, watch out for pirates. People who travel on their own will be hunted down; you'll either have to get a group together and try and stay secret, or else stick to safe areas. Travel around in the starting system for a while, hop between different neutral/friendly colonies, and stray from safe space only when you have a temporary group that has the same destination, like a convoy that is also heading to where you want to go.
     
    Your org reminds me of a concept I made for Space Engineers, though with some differences; the construct I made was a huge spherical ship with lots of little mining ships attached to it. People with nowhere else to go, or perhaps not allowed anywhere else, could live in the small ships, provided with food, water, gravity, and a small wage, and in exchange they would take the little mining ships out and mine asteroids, returning to the large sphere, which could move wherever it's service was needed.
