    Although much is being said regarding the game mechanics, physics this and that, I have heard very little about character creation, clothing fashion and though for the more techically inclined this matters little in the grand scheme, as a female who appreciates a good charactor creator and loves the silly vanity items like jewlery and clothes, pets and lets not forget SHOES!!! I would like to hear some more about this subject.
    I know myself well enough to know I will hate to see my char wearing the same space jumpsuit day in and day out and dont even get me started on those helmets. I can see if you have to be out on the dock of a mother ship working in space because that makes sense, or even farming mats on a planet whos atmosphere isnt oxygen based but all the time?!?!
    I know after decades of playing mmorpg's that even the gender bending males (Dudes who play only female chars) like dressing up their chars. I would like to hear others thoughts on this subject and by all means post some images of the kind of fashion you would like to see offered ingame.

    Thanks Dhara, I am looking forward to it as well... more like chompin at the bit... cant wait to settle in to a place and begin sculpting all kinds of statues and monuments, all i need are sketches to work off... Is it September yet?!?!?!

    I believe those options will be eventually applied later in the game. It would be nice if we had some customization already available at launch tho, since I'm also a big fan of fashion in MMOs xD
    Anyway, the priority should always be the gameplay and server stability otherwise it's pointless to even have char customization.

    I want decals... lots of them.  User created ones too... I'd prefer to be able to directly upload my own but I can see that potentially being a problem so... maybe have a contest every few months where 20 decals submitted by the community get added to the game.
     
    Any way... I want to be able to drag, scale, and place such decals onto anything I own.  Clothes... ship parts... my characters skin...
     
    It annoys me greatly when character creation has jewelry and tattoos but they can only be toggled on or off... you can't move them... combine multiple... rotate or scale them up or down.  Really frustrating.

    I too would like to eventually see other outfits and modifications of those outfits, either through dying and/or mixing and matching. But I don't think that the idea fits as well into this world as it would into say the WoW universe. We are all going to be space explorers from the same mothership, so realistically the uniform variety would be minimum seeing as everyone is the same rank. But ignoring that fact, it would be nice to see a variety of climate based outfits for people in different biomes as well as some way that you could differentiate different organizations at a distance just by what they are wearing.
     
     
     
    Especially in a world where everyone may be machine-raised/genetically-modified.

    I consider a good character creator to be an essential part of a good MMO.  I want to be able to make a character with the image that I want to present in the game.  However, I think having only helmets available was a good choice at this stage of development.  This way, our faces can remain hidden until there is time to develop a character creator that gives us a lot of flexibility in choosing our appearance.  I prefer this to starting with one that would only allow us to pick from a number of preset faces, and then have people associate that look with our characters.

    Yeah we haven't heard much about character creation in a while. I would like to see some customization that you can make unique, instead of just pick 1 of 6 canned bodies/heads/hair. Also the ability to change clothes/suits. It might not be that advanced at release, but maybe it will get there.

    If you look at the stretch goals, it says first level character customization. So I think there is a level two and hopefully a level three. Though I don't think it's a high priority for them just yet. 
     
    My ideal scenario is that we get some body shop element to customize our look whenever we want. And all I want is a cowboy hat and a trench-coat. I do love my hats.

    @Munney the Landmark system didn't work at 100%, cause of the 'way voxelomancy ''features'' were procurred, aka the algorithm could not compensate for glitched voxels. NQ does not rely on glitched geometries for contours on shapes, so they are solid imho.

    good question, I know voxels can be smoothed down to create micro voxels that one can use to build things like fine furniture, small detail work using micro stitching but you couldnt free rotate without mass distortions. I am wondering how that might work on a ship that is partially voxel built... Will it distrort during manuevers? Im sure this team has a handle on things but I imagine that there are limits to how voxels can be manipulated. the last voxel based game I tested had distortions a 5 voxels thick on free rotate, Im hoping this game will be far improved from landmark. As far as I can tell from the dev diaries DU is far superior to LM. Looking forward to pushing the limits of the tools during Alpha.

    Oh yeah they've got to get us some windows.
     
    In Landmark there were glass voxels and element based windows and they both had some benefits and drawbacks.  So i kind of hope they give us both in DU.
     
    Elements are handy because they can be rotated to any angle and overlap with voxels.
     
    But voxel glass let you create curved windows or any crazy shape or thickness you wanted
     
    I'm going to miss the way curved voxel glass warped light when you looked through it in Landmark.  I hope they do something similar with voxel glass in DU.

    I'm planning on creating a shipyard and i have several dozen ships in mind to create, from large to small, and there are going to be a ton of hurdles to doing this. I'm curious if I can craft a few things to make life a bit easier.
     
    1 Safe Zone: In the interviews JC mentioned that there would be a safe zone around the starting area where pvp is disabled. Personally I despise pvp in any game no matter what it is, except smash bros :), but I know i'm in the minority. If all my time, attention and resources are devoted to ship building, i'm a sitting duck for any pirate or scab that wants to make my life hell. I have created an organization I intend to be faction neutral and specifically for the shipyard and owned territory. Being able to erect a safe zone around it would me the freedom and peace of mind to work without the worry of being set upon.
     
    2 Economy Structures: With the scale and number of ships I intend to create resources with be a major problem. If I can create a bank nearby that might help me manage resources a bit better. If I was also able to craft an auction house nearby that would also help me rapidly gain resources I would naturally chew through with the scope of ship design I intend. If I were to craft the auction house perhaps I might be able to extract a fee for use of that particular auction house, say 1%. Not of all transactions, only of those that take place through the one I create that is in my territory. 
     
    If I can combine these I could most likely create a thriving neutral environment that I could use to keep my ship building running smoothly, thats my hope anyway. Any chance?

    The same algorithm that works for identifying photos can be used to identify a voxel construct.
     
    If you copy a shape that is already registered as owned by a person in the game - like a whole ship - you will trigger the alert. How NQ wants to proceed with that, depends to be seen.
     
    In Landamrk, if you copied the voxel construct of another person and tried to resell it, you would send much of your income on the Blueprint to that person you copied.
     
    So, if a person figures out the "best" ship shape, people will pay them for the "patent". However, NQ should put a "patent fee" for keeping this going, so if a person leaves the game with a huge patent, they don't end up being a money sink.

    One big question is what's the smallest unit we can "sculpt" with and is rotation locked to a grid or can we freely rotate on all 3 axis.
