Why thank you for that clarification.  I didn't understand what you were saying!  ::whew::

So let me re-iterate... it is, and in my opinion... should remain... the DU client.  If we don't have to expend resources to develop content.. it is neither immersive nor emergent.  A couple of 'features' I, and many others, are looking forward to in this particular game.  An external (or somehow protected) client, removes such processes from the game, and protects the 'developers and creators' of such items from the consequences that could come along with attempting to develop such items whether they be buildings, weapons, vehicles or what have you and I absolutely hope that we -never- see such a tool with Dual Universe, and am sure that while there are some that might wish otherwise, the creators of -this- game are wise enough to see would be a BAD thing.

I disagree... we don't need to be play-testing with construction in an offline mode pre-launch - we need to be testing the system itself.  At some point I could see the need for being able to flesh out designs and specs for various constructs using alternative methods, but the whole idea of an emergent system is for us to come up with ways to make things happen on our own, not through the intervention of the devs of the game.  We will have the ability to script in lua; to what level we can code remains to be seen, but the system for development needs to come from the players of the game.

Society didn't get handed a gizmo that they could allow them to plan out their future with no consequences.  We had to figure it out on our own, and from what I've gathered of the concept behind this particular environ we are heading for, its supposed to be US, the players, driving the avatars within the game, who will have to come up with the tools, constructs, and devices needed to survive and succeed using the tools provided for us by the people who sent us off on the ark in the first place (if you want to avoid being OP about it.)

One of the things I love and hate about Empyrion (one of the other games I play) is the fact that there IS the ability for people to whomp something up with no consequences, and then they can toss resources into that offline facility where the item is constructed, and can't be touched by other players and whip it into existence in a heartbeat to be able to utilize it at a whim.

I get the idea of where you're coming from... I love to be able to build and create and learn from my mistakes, but frankly I, for one, am looking forward to being able to experience everything in-world... consequences, risk, loss, and learning from my mistakes included.

Except a risk-free unlimited resource way of producing blueprints decreases the material cost and infrastucture to 0, every joe-shmo can build a blueprint for a stealth bomber or high performance fighter, and with so many blueprints on the market, they become worth nothing.

I personally like the idea of some type of creative mode but I have to agree that this should take place with in the game server with all the other players and not on a different server .
The easy solution for privacy is own a tile in the Safe Zone and then build a base or simple hanger that people cant see in and lock the permission so only you can enter it  .
You are still playing the game and being a productive member while maximizing your privacy, security and being able to build alone if that is what you prefer  .
    Just Saying.    =)

I'm not sure I like this concept - the gameplay is supposed to be emergent and immersive based on player interaction.  If we can just go 'whomp' there's my starship from a blueprint we design offline, the emergent factor is removed - example:  if I am designing something at my base and a band of pirates comes by to shoot up the place, then I have to drop what I'm doing and defend my base and protect my resources and construct that I'm working on...  thats emergent gameplay.  If I can otherwise sit in a protected offline environ ALL the time and design design design its less likely I'm going to be IN WORLD because I'll be busy elsewhere...

Lachenlaud reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in My Community Has Withdrawn Our Pledges
    Hi everyone,

As the topic is derivating seriously in the last pages, it's going to be closed.
To all those who are wondering if the current level of funding already include the pledge withdrawal, the answer is yes: The pledge amount is updated in real time. If someone unpledge, it's immediately reflected to the amount pledged on the Kickstarter page.

    @ChipPatton:

To sum up your point of view:
    1) Our communication is canned because we didn't reply directly to your community's experience.
    2) You didn't try to discuss with us because the previous reply was canned in your opinion.
    3) You said the PLEX is inefficient against goldfarming.
    4) You assume that I'm convinced DAC is the perfect too and that, apparently, only my opinion counts in the Novaquark Team.
    5) You consider that globally we are non-caring.

So to address this (very) subjective declaration:

    1) We read your community experience and we understand that your experience with PLEX hasn't been fun. However, just looking by the prism of one experience, and refusing to look at the bigger picture is something we can't do as game developers: The problem you encountered is something that you would have encountered sooner or later even without the PLEX existence. Why? If unfair players want to harass a specific group and they have money for it, yes, the official staff can close as many accounts as possible if those use gold farming sites to get a lot of in-game money, but the unfair players will come back again and again, as money is not a problem for them. This is a neverending story. As an EVE veteran player, you probably won't refute the fact that you can harass anyone with fresh new toons, only a few hours old, in Tech1 ships in EVE Online. Again, even without the PLEX/DAC system, the problem remains as a whole, only less visible. So what you consider as a "canned reply" is just a different opinion from yours.

    2) Avoiding to start a discussion just because we have a different opinion from yours, and that there are chances it wouldn't go your way... It has indeed no chance to convince the Novaquark Team. Self fulfilling Prophecy here. But you have no right to complain if you didn't even try.

    3) Three big developers/publishers seem to disagree: CCP, Blizzard and NCSoft (Carabine studios).
Beside that, as gamers, we didn't experience the consistent huge amount of PLEX/gold selling you're mentionning in EVE (Yes, we have EVE players in the team). Do you have something to back your declaration about PLEX system being inefficient beside your own words? If it's the case, we are interested in this data.

    4) The Community Manager status seems to have been misunderstood here: having a personal opinion and making the communication (both ways) between players and the Novaquark team are two different things. Whether or not I'm convinced of something is irrelevant in this case: If players have concerns about one aspect, I transmit the message to the team. If the team has an official stance on a topic, I transmit it to the players (the reason why you received twice globally the same answer). Now, while the team won't change a feature as important as the DAC system on a whim, if some solid concerns followed by facts are given in a well-argued discussion, everything is possible (except coming on what has been already promised to other players such as Kickstarter DACs). However, loud voices and threats of unpledging without solid reasons will not affect game design decisions.

    5) Just because we have a different opinion doesn't mean we are non-caring. We care about every opinion. However, we are also realistic about the fact that we cannot satisfy everyone. Nobody can.

If you have something else to discuss with us that are not:
    - Your (unfortunate) experience on EvE Online.
    - Assumptions of the real intents of the Novaquark Team (like implying the DAC system has been chosen by greediness, when the game is free, the expansions will be free and there will be a free trial period when starting the game... not really a good way to start a reasonable discussion with a developer).

Then by all means, send me a private message on this forum and I will transmit the message to the team for discussion.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Oh I get what it's aiming for... I read the original material too   Personally I voted for 'Colonist' in your poll... I was just exercising my right to be a skootch.

There's going to be all kinds of 'names' applied to people once the universe is available to us... (prolly some not so nice...LOL!)

I think your poll is admirable, and a great way to pass the time while we wait for things to unfold.

Anyone living on Alioth will probably be referred to this way, but what about those who venture into the vast emptiness of space and settle on a planet called Xandar? I would assume that they will prefer the term "Xandarians" since that is their planet's name.
Nobody is saying that planetary-based names shouldn't be used, but that isn't necessarily what this thread is meant to establish.

This was discussed a bit in the original thread, follow the link in my first post and it will bring you straight there! Part 1 was very interesting indeed as a lot of good names were suggested that didn't make it into this "Final Showdown". If nothing else, it will give you a pretty solid idea of what this poll is aiming for.

Ya know... I've been playing MMO's for a long time... and I've seen LOTS of different things happen that, for me personally, made the game less interesting...  over the years I've coined a term for it --- pablumizing ---

Pablumizing is what happens when a games features are replaced by over-simplification...

So I played WoW back when it first hit the scene... I favored certain aspects of the game... one of the types of characters I really found myself enjoying was the Hunter class character...  and there were aspects to those hunters that made them a challenge to play effectively.

As time passed, Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, chose to water down some of the aspects of playing a hunter character... they changed how you skilled, they changed how you skilled your pet... they changed how quickly you would have a pet as a hunter to help you along... they made it so you had fewer weapons you could carry (ranged vs melee) etc... they even introduced an 'expansion' that to many were the equivalent of 'Facebook Games' where you'd assign an 'NPC' to run missions for you and then reap the rewards...  and in the process you got to build a mediocre 'Garrison' you could call 'home' in a sense... but one that was 'instanced' in the same physical location every other player got to build their garrison... it wasn't really an effective place to invite your guildies to hang out in (in fact they couldn't really enter it unless you were there with them)....

Eventually... they pablumized my interest right out of the game...

I'm all for a certain amount of automation... I think auto-turrets with a certain amount of 'automation' built in to them would be 'ok', but that a 'crewed gun' SHOULD be able to do better...

A large ship might be flown by a single pilot, but to operate effectively and to its potential should require someone to crew it...

I would HATE to see someone be able to 'eventually' build something like a 'Death-star' and then single handedly be able to pull it up to the planet I'm living on and blast me, my base, and my friends into oblivion... LOL

I've seen plenty of people cry boo-hoo on forums about "Oh wouldn't it be cool if we could make this simpler...." and the obverse of "OMG WHY DID YOU MAKE IT SO SIMPLE!?!?"

Frankly a game that holds my interest for any length of time is one that challenges my abilities to think, plan, and prosper.. something that requires More than just point and click and if I happen to have the higher level or the better gear anyone that stand in my way is dead meat....

That's what drew my interest in wanting to play this game.  If ya want point and click click click click click go play the Family Guy Quest for Stuff or Disney Magic Kingdom... or better still, <insert name of choice>Ville on Facebook.

Ok... lets talk waste of time... and resources!
    A Space Elevator offers several advantages to a player or player group for several reasons;
From the demos I've watched on vid (YouTube, etc.) I've seen that there is going to be some sort of 'fuel' powering vehicles. Presumably that 'fuel' won't be something that just 'magically appears' in the tanks of said vehicles. Power may, based on hints given in the stories and lore surrounding this game, be generated via Solar (and presumably other sources, perhaps windmills, etc...  see the story at this link: https://dual-static-web.s3.amazonaws.com/static/pdf/Dual-Universe-English.pdf) Assuming that power can be generated without the continuous use of consumable fuels, a 'Space Elevator' might be powered by such.  If that is the case, then there is a possibility that resources could be saved by using such a device to ferry materials such as metals, people, etc. to an orbital platform. In one of the demo vids I observed a 'different' fuel guage for atmos vs in-space flight... theoretically mass could be a factor in getting items out of a planets gravity well.... if thats the case, then carting up extra 'fuel' for space flight would also consume additional fuel... thus if that theory holds true, it would cost more fuel to get fuel out of the planetary gravity well....  So a Space Elevator concept offers ALL KINDS of potential advantages... its just a matter of how much the game designers are going to incorporate resource usage into game-play reality...

Of course, for now... its just speculation, so we'll have to wait an see... but the possibilities are endless!

The bottom line is this... it's an amazing concept with all sorts of possibilities and I, along with many of you I'm sure, are looking forward to exploring those possibilities.

There will always be trolls of some sort in any game... people's who's only goal is to annoy others... but there will also be those for whom the game becomes a profound and enriching experience of culture and delight.  The game will be what anyone makes of it for themselves, and what they allow others to make of it for them.

I've played Eve... I played in several of the larger Alliances and I ran a couple of different corporations which were quite successful.  I met some awesome people doing that, and I met a few who deserved to be at the wrong end of my guns.

But all in all, while I played, I for the most part enjoyed the experiences I had and I'm looking forward to seeing what experiences will await me in DU.

DU, like Eve, will be an evolving and changing Universe of emergent possibilities...  I can't wait to see things in action first hand!

    Well you'd also have to figure on how that would affect the market and such - they'd have to take things into consideration like;
    1) does the build belong to a player or a 'group/corp/guild/alliance'
    2) How would that affect longer term players who 'have' developed something like a Blueprint for a really cool ship who leaves the game.... market orders, etc, etc...
Asset control would have to be smart enough to take into account who owns it, who created it, (perhaps even who 'previously' owned an item, etc.)
