  1. You could have a little blue box that says 'DEV' just like the 'HOT' marker.
  2. I think they need to cash in on the "epicness" factor. Detailing how individual game mechanics work is only interesting to a certain amount of players. This means creating a cinematic of some sort. They have done it before with the E3 trailer, and more recently, the Kickstarter promotion. Perhaps a crew discovering a new planet, and sending a shuttle down to the surface with one of the soundtracks they've put out in the background. You have to be careful with these because they might inaccurately represent their current progress, but if done right they can generate a lot of hype. Edit: another idea that came to mind: build a new station (the one they have been showing off is starting to get overused) and have a cinematic of a pilot requesting docking access as they fly into the hangar. They need to emphasize the possibilities for emergent gameplay.
  3. Really hope they make that goal! I had been wondering how the damage would be dealt to voxels.
  4. So I guess we are already playing the original Dual Universe...
  5. The problem I see here is that this would entice people to join an enemy organization as a mole and go on a killing spree just to drive down the reputation of that org. If there is a reputation system for orgs it should be tied into the player created quests. The more quests/contracts/missions a given organizations members complete for another org, the higher the reputation becomes with the other org.
  6. It's a tricky problem. I'll start by mentioning that JC recently said in an interview that if an organization claims 70% of the tiles on a planet, the planet and the space around it, will be considered "owned" by that organization. If it gets back down to 60% they lose it. The 10% buffer insures the planet isn't constantly changing hands. I suggest a combination of territorial claim and procedural generation method. By default, the names of planets are procedurally generated (perhaps the the nearest 100 planets near Alioth the devs will selectively name). However, if an organization has reached the 70% bar, they get to name it whatever they like. This way reduces the the likely hood of low-quality names while preserving the emergent aspect.
  7. The way I see it, NQ has done everything they can reasonably be expected to do, given the current state the game is in. You can't have players play it because the game is incomplete and by handing over the game to an independent source, the representation of the game would not reflect the final product. You haven't seen certain key game features because they are still in development and are missing in the current pre-alpha build of the game. So yes, by backing you are saying that you trust NQ to make the game playable even if it isn't currently in that state. Personally, the enthusiasm and vision that NQ has for this game is enough to gain my trust. Whether they are succesful or not I won't regret backing their vision.
  8. A visual representation of our corporate structure. Some positions have been left out for the sake of simplicity.
  9. Alpha is not likely to have Construct vs Construct combat and all progress will be wiped for Beta, so this seems perfectly reasonable. Although, I think that at least one person should be shot just make sure that game mechanic works. Any volunteers?
  10. Wow! Thanks and welcome to all the new members who joined this week! Xtrem532 Ohems (Finnboy11) Kaladin BliitzTheFox Cartagena Deese125
  11. Welcome! Here's the discord link if you haven't gotten it yet: http://discord.me/dualuniverse
  12. Hard to not think of "paramilitary corporation" when I see PMC. Welcome to the DU community and good luck!
  13. Couldn't agree more. I think ship design is planned to be more complex than the Pre-Alpha construction video made it seem. They have released models of energy conduits that can link between various elements. If you look closely every single element has ports for these conduits somewhere on their surface. I'm thinking the way that energy is distributed through the ship and the amount of redundancy in energy systems will add a lot of depth.
  14. I agree that some organizations have made claims they might not be able to deliver, but in the end all that matters is what actually happens in-game. I think many of the claims, the most popular one being to "build a death star" are all theoretically possible in-game, just not necessarily a good strategy. Hopefully the alpha will give org leaders a good idea of what is possible and practical, and by the time Beta roles around the plans of organizations can be more realistic.
  15. I'd like to see this in a limited way. Still have size categories (small, medium, large turrets) for instance, but allow each of them a fixed amount they can scale down or up.
  16. Thanks to you Neopolitan and all our friends over in the Cinderfall Syndicate, ODY members receive the benefits of being a member of the great growing community of Cinderfall. Gain access to the Nexus trading networks and space docks, help us set up an Embassy within Emberstone, and become part of a greater collective that allows for unmatched freedom of the individual.
  17. I'm glad DU is reaching more people. Welcome to the forums!
  18. 25cm is a heck of a lot smaller than most voxel building games. Add that in with dual contouring/ surface-to-surface feature and I think you underestimate peoples creativity if you don't think they can make furniture with that. DU's voxel system is ambitious enough as is. Wait another 20 years and we might get a game with voxels at the atomic scale
  19. I second the hope for a video of multicrew, but I don't expect they will have it ready during the kickstarter. It would be great to see a player walking around a moving ship.
  20. All I know is that they were looking at having four major different weapon types, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of them.
  21. I agree it would be cool, but I'd rather they focus on getting the alpha and beta released. The only reason people would want to build ships without the ability to fly them would be if they knew they would be carried over into the actual release. They will likely be making modifications to the voxel construction and elements over the course of the alpha so they wouldn't be able to guarantee that peoples designs could be carried over.

    Pets!

I think the pets are going to be robots, they even showed a quick glimpse of the model in the KS video (It's at about 16:35). I wonder if the pet could be combined with the 3rd person drone concept. When you need it to, it can hover and give you a 3rd person tracking view. Of course pets are only for backers so that wouldn't be very fair to new players. Another idea is that you could have the pet offer some very basic defense for your constructs while you are offline by mounting a small weapon on it.
