The one key thing in the "letter" for me was that the investors were mentioned a being "long term". While I get where you are coming from I can see it entirely possible, and believe what we now know supports that, that the investment group has agreed to put more money into the company on the condition that they were able to take control of the company as I can see how they had no faith in JC's ability to  make this work from a CEO perspective.

At the same time, I can see they will use the coming weeks to not just get the company back on track but also see if it is viable to make this company work and add the funding. If not, then yes they may decide to pull the plug and if there is a reasonable chance for them to eventually recoup their investment then they may look for a more permanent CEO or keep their guy in control. All are possibilities and there is literally nothing we can do to influence that but to keep our cool and give it time to work out whichever way it goes.

someone shat in his cornflakes this morning.

    TLDR at the bottom.

YOU may think that pvp is the GOLDEN ticket but there are far more things that they could do (and IMO, should do)  first before introducing PVP considering this engine is really not up to the task.

removal of ALL BOTS:  ore purchasers and schematics.
Replace schematics with org research. research the schematics and horde or sell them.
PROPER Tech tree with proper tiers that need to be studied AND USED to unlock. (Cyberpunk's xp system is great).
Automated defensive structures, domes, forcefields, fortifications ala every single shooting since the 80.
Energy generation and consumption and recycling, reclaiming.
WATER as a resource needed for industry
importing water to arid planets like Madis/moons.
OIL wells for energy and plastics production.
realistic resource distribution and extraction rates,
    Proper resources and farming
Farming wood and other biological materials from trees and animals, not coal.
    Or grow them in reactors/vats.
Tier Zero materials for land buildings like concrete, masonry etc.
Proper terrain forming tools with undo like in core building.
Requiring energy/time cool downs for local res nodes to function forcing players who repeatedly die back to earlier res nodes, further away.

NOW we have valuable resources that need to be gathered and pooled, we have real reason for conflict and PVP.
Once this is in place, remove the safe zones and allow air / air-ground PVP.

Before any of this is in place, PVP is just grandstanding/ganking/willie waving and roleplaying. It has zero strategic value as currently implemented.

TL;DR: PVP isn't the golden ticket, it is the icing on the cake, IMO

    Fight back.

But the question assumes more things than you realize maybe. For one, why put up a player market when you don't have protection? Shields? Guns? Furthermore, why have the markets at all? In civilization history trade centers don't just happen. They are established via a long and arduous process resulting from many small trade routes coalescing into one trade center for convenience of all parties involved. They don't just appear out of nowhere. If this is meant to be a civilization building game you cannot just make a trading post. I mean... you can. But you also must suffer the risks involved. Trade hubs will emerge in key places organically due to demand and convenience.

Moscow wasn't built as Moscow. It wasn't built in 3 days. It was first a patch of dirt, then some trade route or some small shanty village where people painted themselves blue and killed and pillaged neighboring villages. It grew into a trade post and eventually into one of the main trade centers in the region and eventually grew into a city. And in the meantime a lot of blood was spilt.

I've been saying this many times over... this game is not a civilization building game even though it's advertised as such. You'd think that if you set out building such a game you'd go with first principles and ask: what is civilization? How does it arise? What factors characterize civilization? How long does it take? Then you take the most important aspects and try to gamify them. Based on what we have right now I don't believe this process ever happened. JC has no vision nor direction. It's blind development. Most alphas have significant evolutions and mechanics added on their main patches, DU seems to devolve with every patch.

Imagjne territory warfare without AvA. That's like... idk.. deciding who to marry with rock paper scissors.

And yes, without pvp nothing in this game matters. Not the buildings, not the pvp ships, not the cool huds and lua creations, nor the cities that remain empty and desolate because there are no selective pressures at all in this game for any civilization building. It's basically minecraft. This was not the promise of the kickstsrter.

I updated the first post on the thread as I entirely forgot the big one and main course for he patch next to the missions system.. The Creative mode instance

NQ will follow their usual pattern so here's my prediction:
    Devblog 1: Mission System (28-01)
    Devblog 2: Org Wallets (10-02)
Devblog 3: The "major change" to the way jetpacks work in space (19-02)
Devblog 4: PTS and new textures/assets using Quixel and Speedtree (end Feb)
Devblog 5: Linked container range nerf and the Creative mode instance (first week March)

"AMA/Q&A" session stream with JC (second/third week March)

0.24 patch set to release 24/25 March ..

    --==--

And while we're at at it..

    Next up end of June:
PVP revamp Power/Energy management Asteroid mining Mining units
Then, late September (and yes, I fully expect a wipe for this patch)
Territory Warfare (safezones around outer planets goes away) Player Markets Avatar customization Stargates and a new solar system with improved biomes The new system will have one safezone planet with it's moons, I expect NQ will place the gate to and from that system in the safezones on either side "for now".

Lastly, the "release" patch early/halfway through December:
2nd iteration of the Mission system Pets Vertex Editor Possibly a Market API

The cynic in may says that if this is introduced, it's just going to be a nanomarket window with a dropdown selection from about half a dozen mission types, a free-text box (limited to 500 characters), a price field and a deadline date field. And *maybe* a simple text search function.

Everything else introduced into this game recently has been coded at a junior intern level of sophistication... I don't see why this will be any different.

So- as of last night "We're about to perform some maintenance operations but it doesn't require any service interruption. You can continue playing as usual. You may temporarily notice voxels acting weirdly but it should only last around 15 minutes. Thanks for your support @here!"

And as of this morning- voxels are disappearing out of build mode/reverting to old patterns of voxels. Unable to delete those voxels, they show as gone in build mode- but appear back out of build mode. It is seen by multiple people, even after clearing cache. This has been widely reported with Dynamic and Static constructs, across the game from multiple groups/people. It seemingly happens to a random group of voxels in a construct, and not the entire construct.

myself and others are not  touching things till this is fixed. Before this issue our group has seen voxel corruption(Missing voxels, and missing vertices) but those could be fixed. This is a major issue, and seemingly happened overnight- and is database/server related to the "maintenance" last night.

    Who else has seen this?

Yes indeed there is a seasonal cycle. This can be better seen if you are closer to the poles of a planet.
It takes around one and a half months of actual real time (aprox.) to go through the whole cycle.
For example you could have 24 hours of light at some point in time, with the sun position changing gradually to 24 hours of darkness, during a 1.5 month period.

Wading through all the opinions here must be hard work !! especially when many opinions ( Valid or not ) are written with toxicity and anger, rather than understanding and working with NQ through the changes ( More changes will come ! this is not the end of the road folks )

Here is a list of some of the valid questions i have seen here so far for easier reading.

*What do you consider a high prices scheme btw?

*Sounds good but will you address the DRM issues? We need our voxel libraries back please?

    *When will schematic prices drop?

*Recycling of un-restorable elements through a recycler that will take an element as input and grant a small amount of the schematics required components as output.
    How will this work ?
Will you need a specific tier recycler to recycle corresponding tiered elements ?

*Can you at least seed t1 schemas on all markets (or at least one per planet/moon) so people aren't stranded anymore?

*can we have tools to communicate in the game ? We  can't leave a message to someone that is not connected, or even talk to someone that is not in our friend list or near us. It's the only MMO i know where the players can't really communicate in the game.

    * The number of times an element can be repaired before it is trash is not bad but poorly conceived idea that will force me to carry stock piles of parts with me everywhere. Can this please be modified so it can be repaired to full only so many times and degrades, maybe with color levels that we are already accustomed to?

Well, you heard SOME of us, after we decided to speak with our wallets at least... All of these steps are quite acceptable... Yet I notice you guys have completely ignored the RDMS issues and aspect of the game. There are still dozens of shipbuilders out there who have had their blueprints stolen because the RDMS system opened up and allowed people who'd previously bought said ships, which were previously locked (No blueprinting) and unlocked them so dozens of BP's could be made...

And stranding players with unannounced updates to the seat controllers.... Not cool. Not cool at all...

Also, a quick fix to the market... Introduce NPC shipping.. You can't find something locally? Hire an NPC ship to bring it to your local market from ANY market for X quantas per SU of distance....

The test server is something that should have happened ages ago...

Still, after you guys removed the unsubscribe button from the "my products" page, it's going to be a bit before I can trust you again.

I agree with your sentiment towards the design of ships, I'm a designer myself and always like to have functionality in companion with great looks. I know that there are a lot of ships out there which only purpose is to get the job done and lack aesthetics. We have to keep in mind though that not all players are designers, and that's ok. This actually makes a great opportunity for designers cause we would have a greater audience to sell nice looking ships to. There is also another factor which contributes to having less design oriented ships, which is that the game being heavily invested into grinding, pushes you towards just making the cut in order to be able to make your virtual company grow economic wise and not lag behind.

And in relation to the sport activities it would be great if we could do something like that within the game. I'd love to wing suit myself from the top of 1km building

When I first heard about DU and saw some advertisement videos, first I was very hyped about the idea that finally there was a possibility for someone to create his/hers virtual scifi enterprise and build it up to a big org. The second thing that fueled my desire to participate in this single shard game, was that I could explore, combat, build, trade, discover, etc.
This premise was perfect for my virtual scifi enterprise "Space Mining Universal", as the names describes, that would be a mining company hauling and trading valuable ores and materials through out different solar systems. Probably the aspects of the game that drew me in the most were building/crafting and exploring these worlds.

I joined the community back in 2017 and purchased the Gold membership, I did however not play the game until 3 months ago. My first impressions were really good and I really was enjoying the game, up until you fast forward to the date of this post. During the 3 months I've been playing it, quite a few thing have been changing in the game and most of the things I was hyped about are slowly disappearing from it. I understand that this is in Beta stage, though it seems more like an Alpha stage to be honest. Nevertheless what really worries me is that the promised aspects of the game now are being displaced to fit a totally different route that wasn't intended back in the Kickstarter campaign as well as in the first year of development.

Seeing the login start up screen with check boxes for the game elements to come being ticked off in such a hurried manner, without the features even being fully implemented or developed is damn concerning. Also the replies NQ has given its audience for legitimate questions, where there always seems to be a matter of not enough time or resources, only shows that as always promises given were bigger than what could be accomplished.

I really had high hopes for this game to flourish and the possibility for my dream come true in it, now it seems it's not gonna happen.
It's pretty obvious the reasons behind the game starting to fail are poor decisions from behalf of the NQ team and not listening to their audience. My take on it is I think they slowly ran out of budget and the server infrastructure they have in hand is not capable of sustaining their promises, and now are trying to implement whatever they can even if its not fully implemented. I could keep on giving reasons and talking points but this thread wasn't supposed to be about the company's failure to keep on track with their promises, but really more about telling others the vision and ideas one had getting into the game.

PS: whatever happened to the "pets" we would get at some point for certain account types? NQ probably would answer, that's not a priority, it takes time, we need to invest the "budget" in other areas.
    Just broken promises and lies.

Anyway guys sorry for the rant, so as @Deintus posted, I also would love to hear your ideas and visions you would bring into the playing field. Cheers!
