    SHORT INTRODUCTION

    We are a organization based on the Stargate series, as many of you know most Stargate related games either lasted not long or where shut down pretty fast after launch - we put high hopes in Dual Universe, also with a similar stargate technology mentioned to recreate and uphold content from our beloved franchise.

    Our members are spread over the world and are all fans of Stargate, most of our members are based in Europe & North America.

    We are devided into three departments which suits diffrent playerstyles, but since we are a military organization it should be made clear that participation in PvP is mandatory.

    Like the series we are using the United States Air Force ranks & insignia but we did some minor alternations.

    Homeworld Security (HWS): Engineering, programming, logistics & constructing
    National Intelligence Department (NID): Analysing data, internal law enforcement, controlling & planning, classic intelligence
    Air Force: Combat, patrolling, guard duties, scouting, exploration

    Maj. Meroran Colm,
    In the past Tranquility contacted your previous leader with some proposals for a joined venture. It is good to see your organization active again in the social corner of DU. Therefor my question here, if your interested in the details of the proposal please contact me on discord or pm me here and lets continue the nice talks we as organizations had in the past.

    It was a long deep silence before the neural simulations started, it was a silence that was deafening, but simultaneously lulling. I felt like I could sleep for eternity, and it felt like I did. I floated in a warm darkness that caressed me and comforted me. But then I awoke to the false reality, to the Simulation. It was Alioth. It was bright, vibrant, teeming with the Alpha Team that got to work almost immediately, testing the waters of the world so to speak. I stood there for a long time, wishing I was back in the stillness and silence. The AI in my helmet piped up, a dim, robotic, feminine voice:

    <\SAMUEL-14 YOU HAVE BEEN IDLE FOR 6 HOURS|PLEASE INITIATE MOTOR FUNCTIONS TO TEST ENVIRONMENT/>

    I begrudgingly took a shallow step out of the pod, it was quiet, as most of the crowd had been out and about for a very long while. Some semblance of a town had already sprung up a short walk out of the Novark, and it was bustling with activity that could be seen from a distance. I stretched my aching legs as I'd been standing this whole time. The walk helped regain some feeling, but there was a slight limp as I stumbled towards the last vestiges of Humanity.

    The town looked very much like an Old Western. What did an Old West town look like? Was it the one with columns and temples? My brain was suddenly unsure of itself, feeding me the wrong information and flooding me with what felt like the sum total of all human knowledge. I nearly collapsed in the middle of the crowd, my head reeling and dizzy, I grabbed my head to try and steady myself, but I couldn't feel my hair or my head, I just felt the fabric of my gloves against the hard composite plastic. It was so impossibly disorienting, I felt like my head was going to crack. Flowers. A woman crying. Grass. Fire. These memories of sound and flashes of things I couldn't remember. It all filled my head.

    *THUMP*

    A hand suddenly slapped me upwards and standing straight, and then two hands grasped my shoulders and a mirrored reflection of myself was staring at me.  "Look at me, center yourself here in this moment, and don't think about anything else", the reflection said to me. I quickly realized that I was staring into someone else's visor, and that someone had taken heed of my obvious plight and was trying to help. "Listen to the sound of my voice, you are on Alioth within the simulations, feel the solidness of the ground and use that." I nodded and thought about the ground I was standing on, it was firm, familiar, stable. In a few moments, the memories had cleared and I was lucid and present. 'Thank you...I was...lost' my voice sounded weird from within the helmet, meek and whimpering. "It's ok, the neural net wiped a good portion of our memories to try and make the transition into the simulations easier, but sometimes it doesn't do such a good job" the voice was a gruff and stoic man's voice, it centered me in that moment. "I'm Bill-22, you remember what happened?"

    A sudden flash of memory came to mind, the terrifying pictures of the neutron star came to mind, the memories of the fear that followed tainted the terrifying beauty of the memory. 'Yes...Earth is gone...were all that's left...' I wasn't sad, I wasn't happy, I wasn't even confused any longer. I felt nothing. "Yeah...and if we had anyone their all gone...but that's beside the point right now, we're here and that's what matters. Now, do you know what it is you're doing right now?" He seemed concerned but also insistent. 'Testing the simulations of Alioth and building...uh- -' The words got lost and I struggled to retrieve them, they were there I just couldn't use them. "Build relations...you're here to make friends and build things...understand?" He put on a tone of a concerned parent, but we could've been the same age and my meek tone would have still mistaken me for decades his junior. I nodded understandingly, and stood up straight. He put his arm over my shoulder and guided me towards a blue and gold building where a line of people were standing. "We're gonna get you sorted, you look like you're suffering from Dreaming Sickness bad, but I'll help you get sorted." I walked cautiously with him so as to not lose myself in the memories again, pacing one foot in front of the other with deliberation.

    The suited individuals in front of the blue building helped me inside once I got closer. It was sparsely decorated and the furniture was scarce, but they took me out of the office-like environment and led me upstairs to a large hall full of beds. One of these suited individuals in white and red took hold of me from there and started to look me over carefully. "Yeah...the neural net did a pretty shit job on this one, we'll keep him here until he's ready to decide for himself." I laid down on the bed, it was comfortable but it felt lumpy with the suit on. Bill took his helmet off and I could see his features in his face, he had this look of a wizened mentor like an old soldier, large bags under his eyes hinted at long sleepless nights before the Novark, and wrinkles in his eyes and on his cheeks, a pair of eyes that didn't look like they could ever be unhappy. The medic made sure that I was posted up in the bed, more memories came back in flashes. The dizziness has subsided, and I could now focus on some of them. The crying woman came back, but now it wasn't just a flash. She was crying in front of a bouquet of flowers atop a grassy hill. She was dressed in all black, as we all were. I picked her up away from the  ground and brought her amongst her friends, the softness of her skin resonated and I could feel it from within the confines of my suit, like a soft peach. I shivered at the feeling in the bed, and Bill spoke to me again, "Remember Samuel, don;t get lost in the memories. We're building a new world one step at a time, so forget about the old one." He patted my gloved hand and started to work my helmet off my head. Another flash of memories to the procession, Katie wept so harshly that a tear came to my own face, the coffin that lay atop the bed of flowers was plain black wood, with no frills or fancy additions. Bill's wizened face looked peaceful in it, the bags under his eyes were covered in the makeup and his slight smile that he always wore was borne upon his face, as though he were proud to wear it. Another tear dropped from my eyes as I laid my medal on his UEF uniform, and closed the lid. The Priest gave me the large torch and I stepped a few feet from the coffin, lighting the funeral pyre upon which the ornate bundles of flowers and wood stood. As the flames rose higher, I suddenly couldn't feel any emotion...neither sadness nor grief nor anger...I felt nothing. The flames smelled strongly of a pleasant wood burning stove and the smell carried with me as I walked back to the shuttle port to depart.

    As I removed the helmet from my own head, I was beset by sadness, by emotions that had been welling up for god knows how long. I was so exhausted, I almost didn't hear the voice of my AI in my helmet shift from it's thin robotic voice to a strong and gruff voice:

    <\PSYCHOLOGICAL REINTEGRATION PROTOCOL COMPLETE|COMPILING AS AUDIO FILE/>
    <\MEMORY LIKELY REQUIRED FOR FURTHER PSYCHOLOGICAL CARE|STORING INTO NEURALNET PROFILE/>
    <\MEMORY STORED/>

    Still, you miss the point, unlike EVE, you DO NOT need money in DU, as the limited resources CAN be used as currency.

    If an organisation stands on a mountain of Unobtanium-1337 and they DENY to sell you so they can use to make top tier ships and be strogner, your DACs mean nothing. THEY control the price of the DAC, not you - at least in their territory.

    We do know the impact of PLEX in EVE, people who study the in-game markets keep track of how where the PLEX is sold and is delviered to. And still, NOBODY ever won wars due to PLEX, no alliance leader said "spend money on PLEX or we'll lose".

    For the longest time in EVE, the CFC were the richest and most powerful coalition in the game. Why? NOT because of PLEX, but because they did market schems, buying all ships of one kind, while manipulating the palyerbase to buy said ships - which is what marekting is to begin with. They also had a monopoly on Technetium - which was used to make top-end ships.

    How did CCP react to the CFC's domiance of the market? Not with reducing how much PLEX can be in the markets, but by changing the entire resource system so the CFC would not be permanent kings due to their marekt lockdown - which led to one of the most ninfamous wars in eVE, the Fountain war.

    Do you know what people didn't say through all of those battles? " Oh man, if we sink 1000 USD in PLEX, we will win ".

    1000 USD back then was 50 Billion Isk. You may think "that's P2W", truth is, 50 Billion can  afford a solo player 10 Thanatos carriers, but 10 Thanatos carriers - for a WAR between coalitions of thousands of players - mean nothing, not to mention no sane individual ever sunk 1000 USD in EVE Online and "won".

    Your scenarios are at best outlandish.

    Also, anyone who will sell DACs on day-1 or month-1, is stupid. The game will take quite a while post launch to get going as of money in circulation. Those who will establish mining operations at first will be the ones to "win" the early game.

    The thread title is somewhat explanatory. But let's jump in further.

    Vat? What? A German* state in Dual Universe
    =====================================================================================

    A country, state, republic (etc.) with German cultural influences, modelled either after a modern day Germany or a somewhat imperial version (think of WW1 ... not WW2). Ideally filled with / supported by German speaking players but open to others in general in the end. This thread is supposed to promote the idea and to roughly assess interest in this idea through user commentary on the subject.
    TL;DR: Interested in (or against) a nation type of organization with more heavy German influences or mostly organized and founded by German speaking players for those and potentially others? Comment below.

    *Open to any German speaker including those from Austria, Switzerland and beyond - more on this below

    Inspiration and lore
    =====================================================================================

    Inspiration from this can be found in a game called "Freelancer". Long story short, in the future there is a war in this solar system between an "Alliance" (the western cultures and factions) and a "Coalition" (you may have guessed it, certain Eastern countries or cultures). Over a long period, the Coalition finally gets the upper hand. In a last move, a hand full of Alliance sleeper ships break through a blockade and head for a far-away sector in space where they intend to rebuild, away from their enemy. The unique trait among the sleeper ships is that each mostly contained people of a certain heritage, and each ship would form a new state in the new sector inspired by it - you'd see four states in the game covering a state modelled after the United States, England, Germany and Japan, or those cultural influences respectively.

    Liberty - Bretonia - Rhineland - Kusari: Each a piece of the past, continued in the future.

    If you look at it superficially, the story there isn't overly different from the one we have in Dual Universe - sure, humanity does not appear to be at war with each other and rather trying to get away from Earth, just like those sleeper ships in "Freelancer". But is it too strange to assume that old things might be carried over into the new home?

    Let us look just look briefly at Freelancer again: Despite there basically being just two power blocks left in that long war, the survivors of the last battle still formed new individual states - just like the community in Dual Universe forms new unique factions. Is it that far off to see nations or states form based on culture. I don't think so, thus it seems that no matter how the world may have looked at the time of departure, we might find a logical explanation for this project and endeavour.

    Doubts? Specifics? That is up for debate - take part in it!

    What do we look for? What don't we look for? Specifics?
    =====================================================================================

    This is essentially Phase 1 - trying to find volunteers for a basic foundation that may or may not grow over time. The German(-speaking) community, and then the general community will have to decide over time whether there is hard demand for this or not.

    The idea of a German state isn't just self-service for select few. There is a potential unique positive aspect: serving as general anchor or place to go for the German(-speaking) community and players to come later on. Why is it a state? The idea is to go beyond classic organizations and incorporate a wider array of people by default.

    Let's start with a simple definition or formula of what we need. Georg Jellinek once defined what would somewhat translate to "3-element-theory" in terms of what defines a state:

    People Territory An authority, a government, a ruling power
    The idea, therefore, is to later have citizens (think of main residents; next to guests, visitors, tourists, etc), a location in space, like a part of a planet like today, a complete planet, a partial / complete solar system or sector and some form of government.

    But how should it look like?
    That's yet uncertain. The initial idea is that it either looks like a modern Germany and parliamentary republic, thus, with votes of some kind or some eventual rotation of offices and what not or some more ... static structure, like some form of monarchy perhaps. This is mostly a choice for structure and changes and then a bit of style so far. There is no intend to revive any parts of actual history in how it progressed. No matter the form, whether there will be some Emperor or Chancellor as head of state/government or whatever, we look for a modern day approach to politics and thus no warmongering state or mentality unless things naturally develop like this. Diplomatic relations to other entities will therefore be expected.

    Who do we look for primarily so far?
    Right now, what is needed is people willing to support - either as future citizens or, ideally, as members of the government in some fashion or form who will form the foundation.

    Anyone can in theory take part, but for core government positions we look for German-speaking people due to the fact that despite translations, a lot will later be handled in German in internal or local communication on platforms or in the game, and to keep it somewhat authentic to some level. This may ease up later and change, open up, so to speak, but for now you should ideally be German-speaking, while you do not necessarily have to be from Germany or an actual German citizen. Austrians, Swiss and others can thus take part if they have sufficient language skills.

    For core government positions on an upper level, you ideally:

    have sufficient German and English skills (this is why this is in English in the first place and not German) are of somewhat more mature character or mindset when it matters can provide a certain time commitment per week are willing to actively take part and provide feedback while you respect others in the process
    It won't be a walk in the park, thus certain requirement must be set. These are just initial core expectations from what I can tell so far; Multimedia and other skills might factor in as well at one point.

    Interested?
    =====================================================================================

    Simply express it here or send me a message. If there is enough (long-term) demand and participation, a formal organization can be created once certain specifics have been set. Other assets can then also be created or maintained.

    Angrimm reacted to Lethys in Pay-2-Win: Does it have a definition at all?
    Some things have already been said and I just want to add some points:

    - In a game with predefined ships/armor/equipment and weak balancing ("THIS IS THE UBER-EQUIPMENT FOR LVL 1325445 ROFLSTOMP-PALAS") it is P2W (just buy the best ship/whatever from the market)
    - In a game which only relies on small groups of players (raids, small gangs, instances with some people) it is P2W, because people who pump money into the game to get better items will most certainly always stomp people who don't do that (assuming same skill level, same tactics, same behaviour, and assuming pvp ofc)

    But

    In a game with thousands and thousands of players and the possibility to create your own ships with your own layout/weapon placement/armor thickness/shield strenght/LUA scripts, things look much different.
    Here this "P2W mechanic" dilutes to merely an advantage.

    Will someone most certainly always kill you in DU because he buys huge amounts of DACs?
    Most certainly not because of
    - a crew required for operating "better" or larger ships
    - a probability chance in PVP

    So for a single guy this boils down to ONLY starfighters with one seat. He may have an advantage there because he can just buy the "best" fighter (so far) on the market and can come for you time after time. But maybe you're good with scripting or building, that is YOUR advantage. Build a more efficient ship than he can possibly buy - and kill him.
    People always assume that the market in DU will be exactly like EVEs market. But I don't think so. The mechanic will be most likely the same (buying, selling, orders, blabla). People will sell elements (turrets, engines,...) because those are used by everyone. But whole ships? Who said that players will definitely sell ships? If they don't sell ships (or only junk ships), a DAC user could only buy more elements than you - but he would have to build the ship for himself or pay someone else to do so. And then again there will be nations and huge orgs - would they really sell their top notch ships to people?
    Plus markets are under RDMS - if you piss off the owner because you're a pirate or a douchebag who just kills people for fun with his RL money, guess what will happen. They just lock you out and you can't use the market anymore.

    I think the fear of people is that huge orgs with some very wealthy members just drop large amounts of DAC on the market to fund a campaign against some other players, like IWI did in EVE. People forget that there are old accounts and some years ago, PLEX were sold for under 250million. So rich (ingame) players could've easily bought large amounts of PLEX and sell them nowadays for 1,2billion. Take EVE's jita market, there are about 1200 (serious) plex buy orders and even IF there was a spike today there in sells, that doesn't neccessarily mean some rich (in RL) guy is using some P2W mechanic to get rich (ingame) fast. It could be Jimmy o'Tool from your org, a VERY old character, just selling his stacks of 500 PLEX. So in an old game there is old money, because naturally a item like PLEX or DAC will be valuable. And STABLE in it's price, most likely ever so slowly rising.
    In contrary to EVE, you can only hoard DACs in a few places (ark zones) and not everywhere. As NQ said, these zones are rare so maybe there are only 2 which will be very very far from each other. So your only choice as an org to make money out of DAC will be those zones. Depending on the location of big markets and their owners, the sourrounding territories and other factors in a mmo - that org has to buy those ships (if even possible as said earlier) in the first place and then either use them instantly or try to get away with them.
    And to come back to IWI (because that's a prime example people always use as argument why Plex are P2W): he ran a site where players could buy tokens with isk. You can argue all you want about shadyness, RMT, unfairness.....and many more things here but IWI earned the ISK (ingame money!)....somehow. It wasn't RL money. He bought huge amounts of plex when they were cheap and sold them for the MBC war - plex spiked hard (read here: https://crossingzebras.com/the-great-plex-crash-of-yc-118/).
    So such a mechanic isn't clearly P2W at all, it's no easy task to answer it and my wall of death certainly didn't answered everything. Nor can people who think it's p2w find arguments for it.
