I hereby declare all constructs owned by me (XKentX IGN) or any organization I am a legate of to be off limits to anyone without written permission.

Under the new exploit classification and this formal declaration available to wide audience anyone entering the sphere of influence (and therefore boarding) any of before-mentioned constructs without my written permission can be classified as a bug abuser and will have disciplinary actions taken against him as mentioned by NQ.

Broken down to the crudest (and with some recent examples), I guess for me it's things like:
    - Game development that is misleading. See patches that do not have their content. Or generally a very meagre roadmap for 2021.
    - No communication. The community itself found out first that there is a new CEO.
    - Wrong priorities. See the last announcement about the game.

So in a pvp zone I need the consent of a person to board their ship.
Then, while looking at another game coming out on 29 July, the developers ask me if I'd rather carry a shotgun, rocket launcher, flamethrower or remote charges when I raid the ship.

    - The lack of features like Avatar vs Avatar, which one or another backer on Kickstarter saw as a reason to spend money on it, are also the reason for me. That will only come post-launch and not at the time of release as advertised.
    - The appreciation of your community. I don't have the impression that NQ has taken me seriously lately, despite my critical voice here or in other areas. At least I raise my eyebrows when I have to smirk that org changes with the cores are postponed. (Interpret this statement as you like, I am not breaking any NDA here)

I think I also wrote this in another place: even if NQ should manage to turn the tide, you don't forget the last years like it was here. And that has a bitter taste. Many players who put their heart, soul, sweat, time and energy into this project as customers, both before and after the release of the softlaunch aka betaphase, have left in the end.
Personally, in the end I just wanted to contribute to the game and have an amazing time with people.

As example - Community Translation of the game into other languages.
See the date of the thread when I created it (and no reply from NQ in it).

The developers of another game, which will be released on 29 July, have called on players to come forward who would like to translate. Since I had already translated 80% of their wiki into German, I applied and was accepted. Which I think is pretty cool, even though I don't think it's necessary, but they will mention the names of the translators in the credits in the early access version. With all the NDA and secrecy, a wiki for DU has never been possible. Instead of being transparent, like the vision preached in the Kickstarter, and opening up to the community, they have closed themselves off.

Perhaps after this wall of text you will ask yourself why I am still here. The answer is simple: If you want to hear my opinion about what I want as a customer, then I'm happy to make that known. I also help to contribute to the game if I can. But if NQ doesn't want that and they don't want to see me, then that's okay with me. You can also ignore me and I'll bring out the popcorn if I'm right again. For me, both sides are beautiful.

Its actualy interesting history for context, that rarely gets any light (in dicussions concentrated around more contemprary problems).

Thing is, original backers were pretty much differently focused demography -- more "eve-like pvpers" (who wanted scale and depth, feedom of action) and people who desired to play metagame politics and political-like roleplay (strategic layer for competition). You can clearely see their hype and "nationbuilding" on older forum parts.  Gradualy (for them and everyone else) it become painfully clear, that game has zero mechanics to support very large group gameplay they wanted (or it long years away). So they stared to abandon DU, even long before Beta. Ones who survived from this caterogy (ancient undead, @Lethys, per example) become bitterest critiques of NQ, because, speaking romanticly, it felt like betrayal.

In meanwhile, centre of mass seriously shifted to more "landmark-like" players -- ones much more tolerant to game deficiencies, as long they were able do build something, travel in 3d space and, spend time with their machines and boxes to hoard stuff. Its mostly solo/small group/interest club type of players.

NQ for most part embraced this demographic change and "downgrade" in scale of game, now concentraing their balancing effort between landmark-happy-village-people (to not discromfort them too much) and remaining small-scale-skirmish stubbornest pvpers (to give something to pewpew, but not too much and in very controlled fashion).

This why asteroids made way they made (beyond purely technical aspect).

    NQ intention:
Asteroids that will be risk vs reward as you fight for the control of the tier 5 asteroids !

    Reality:
T1 trashcan ship with 100 alts crashes on the tier5 asteroid. Alts start troll mining T5 into their backpacks jetpacking away and logging off when full. 3 battleships that came to pvp watching helplessly unable to do anything to them.
When the dust settles down alt extraction (another trashcan this time with a warp drive) arrives to take them back home.

NQ: "We will investigate..." (and may or may not do anything about it in 6 month)

There is that profession. Game Design.

    Scientist had an idea.
    Scientist made a PoC.
We tested the PoC and paid for experiment analyzes.
PoC didn't work and turned out to be  a failure.
It seems like scientist got fired.

Time to go crowfund next scientist idea because obviously gamers are much better in deciding which projects should be founded and which are not than professional investors.

    P.S:
PoC name was "server tech for millions of players".
Real result was "shit hits the fan with less than 100".

Builder, not pvp. If they had listened to the pvp people you would have AvA - and salvage - as an option.

Here's the core issue with the whole thing:
If @Noddles runs an org and so do I and want to do a collaboration in form of an alliance or other community effort, we need to find someone that doesn't run an org to run the org for us.

I understand that NQ wants to plan for the longer term and bring some order, what is presented can NOT be the solution.

That's what I love about Ashes of Creation:
The guy finances his own mmorpg, but has never worked on one himself. Instead, he has filled key positions with industry vets who tell him what is feasible in his mind. And the best part: He listens. And communicate with transparency.

Hrafnkell Oskarsson was hired as many gaming news sites mentioned that for DU: https://www.pcgamesn.com/dual-universe/dual-universe-recruits-eve-online-designer

Just check his public linkedin profile and look for how long the guy worked for NQ.

Now we have a guy called Toni who I haven't heard from since he took over as CEO. And this is now approaching the third month.

Huh? My point here is that experienced leaders could have helped JC instead of setting him up for failure. That they could have looked at his vision compared to the resources he had and guided him to make real design choices up-front instead of playing it all by ear.

The "if you know so much, go do it yourself" line is really lame and a great way to not actually discuss anything I said on its merits.

Also, I worked in game dev for several years, so I know how hard it is. Because of experience. JC didn't -- he made an extremely, extremely, woefully common mistake most novice game devs make (too much ambition in their design). I've made the same mistake.

Having some voice to say "Hey JC, temper your vision. You'll never get there with this scope" isn't folly, it's wisdom. It doesn't mean they would be forced to make some boring commercial rehashing of an existing concept...you can have novelty without re-inventing every wheel.

Looking back in hindsight isn't ridiculous, it's how people learn.

There's a wide range of what 'indie studio' really means. People talk about 'III' (triple-I) studios to distinguish between well-funded studios with some AAA experience and "actual" indies with little or no budget.

NQ is clearly a 'III' studio by that definition -- normal indies don't get over $20mm in investment for their first-ever project in game dev.

Compared to the big players in gaming, however, almost everyone is some level of "indie studio".

EA could easily throw $1 billion into a massive MMO project. Hell, they claimed $1.5 billion in income from a one-time tax benefit in 2020 alone.

Activision could throw a billion into a big project and it would barely dent them. They make nearly a billion in micro-transactions each quarter.

All this being said, NQ made their bed. They decided to scope the project as they did.

They don't get to complain about being "so small" just because they decided to rip off a lot more than they could chew. It is their project plan!

They should have built the plan with their resources in mind instead of scoping it according to some dude's completely random vision -- and it was completely random, because JC had no experience in game dev. His ideas about scope are as informed as my drunk roomate when they talk about "you know what would make a great game...?"

The fault is on NQ's board and investors, too. Don't throw money at random PhDs with a tech prototype and hope that it will translate to commercial success.

Originally, early access should have started last November / December. Since all tools and engines are developed in-house, I have no doubt that they know what they are doing.

They are very down to earth, have always communicated excellently. As I am in closed alpha, I have also always been pleased to be able to show things as they are in the game, as there was no NDA.

I expect there will be a big rush in June. I'll give a real conclusion after 2 weeks. But since they don't overhype things like No Man Sky, I see no reason for it to be bad. Everything they've shown in videos, as well as the weekly stress tests, have done the job. Whether the servers will last, I don't know. But the gameplay scenes shown can definitely be experienced.

And if things don't go as they should, they're more likely to be forgiven in their persistently community -> thanks to their superb communication over the last 2 years.

NQ themselves decided to turn away from the vision 2 years ago when they said they would not release AvA at launch - an argument that for an unknown number of people was the reason why they invested money in the kickstarter campaign and have enabled investors and other players to become aware of the game. The community laughed at the people who remarked that something was wrong and this is an issue. Instead, the community said that everything was fine and there was no need to get upset. Instead, you should drink your Kool Aid and put on your rose-coloured glasses.

But here's the plot twist - those who drank the Kool Aid and wore the rose-coloured glasses, I see today in the Starbase Discord and that they are totally looking forward to the early access on 17 June.

This vocal majority no longer plays DU and has moved on. I haven't seen any more of them in DU.
