True. For me to compare it, it has to be a game and not a tech demo.

When I bought Space Engineers back in 2012 or 2013 with great joy, I already wished that I wanted to play something like that with more players. And Starbase does indeed achieve that at first glance. DU needs to get a few things right before I even see it as a competitor. The game can't do more than stroke the mutual ego phallus. Where this Landmark in space game can lead is anyone's guess.

As I am in the Starbase Closed Alpha since mid 2020 and have no NDA and am allowed to show and talk everything:
There is currently only one gas planet and if I am not mistaken 10 moons. The closest being around 20'000km (55 hours at 100 m/s , 37 hours at 150m/s) from the asteroid belt. The largest moon is thought to be 1000km in diameter. Planned features: player built stations (on moon and space, space is already in the making), mining lunar rocks. More to come with time, I guess.

You won't be able to have a voxel-like comparison with DU because Starbase has no voxels. Think of it more like a kit that follows the principle of Space Engineers and Empyrion, but has a comparably great complexity of DU. I think everyone has to decide for themselves what they find more beautiful. I think both approaches are good.

The other things, however, sound more exciting to me:
    - Modifiable engines that you have to cool? It's in.
    - Modifiable command seats with buttons, displays, server racks, a programming language and saving code on elements and giving it to other players? Yes, it's there.
    - Modifiable weapon attachments for the mounted weapons on the ships? Yep.
    - Cable and pipe management for power and fuel? Sure, you'll need to build a redundant system inside the ship.
    - Glass elements? Mhm, yep.
    - AvA, CvC, raiding ships? Yes!
    - Can I place mining lasers on the ship? Yessss!
    - Can I carry the asteroids with my ship to a safe zone and mine them there in peace? YES!
    - Ship designer? Yep.

SirJohn85 reacted to Leniver in LENI tips of the week: How to create a core blueprint with all handling
    Hello to everyone,

I decided to make this post so people know how create a core blueprint and being sure that all the handling will be applied.
The handling on a core blueprint is a bit weird, it seems NQ doesn't have test every case.

The blueprint system is separated in 2 different kind of blueprint:
"Core blueprint": it's a schema that will allow you to create "single time blueprint" "Blueprint": it's a single time use blueprint
How the handling works when placing down a blueprint?
When you create a blueprint from a core blueprint it takes the skill saved on the core blueprint.
If the player that place the ship has higher skill, he will apply the player skills.
If the player that place the ship has lower skill, he will apply blueprint skills.

How the handling works when creating a core blueprint?
When you create a core blueprint the handling skills are not saved correctly.
If the player that create the core blueprint has any handling skills, the handling is reset (It's the bug!)
If the player that create the core blueprint has no handling skills, the handling skills are saved in the core blueprint.

    The tips:
To be sure that the handling skills are saved in the core blueprint you need to have a character without skills.
To make that, thanks to NQ that remove all the skills through VR, you need to use a VR station and create the core blueprint in VR.

    Example of setup:
1 container 1 Surrogate VR station 1 Surrogate Pod Station
Put down the container, surrogate station and the surrogate pod.
Set a name for the surrogate pod and activate it. (wait ~5 minute that the surrogate pod is registred by NQ)
Use the surrogate station and search for the name you have entered.
Once you are in VR, go in build mod on your construct and create a core blueprint.
Put the core blueprint in the container (so you don't loose it when exiting the VR)
Exit the VR and you are done.

I hope it will help you.

You'll laugh, but I've already made that suggestion to NQ, too, that they just tell people what they're doing every two weeks. Something like proactive communication. That was still in the mid-2020s, but you can see what they've done with it.

Explain what you mean by that, because nowhere have I presented my opinion as an objective truth.

I've said before in another post about this that I note the Twitch metrics data once every Thursday. The last time I posted them they were at 90 and a few crushed, now they have dropped to 70.
The player numbers, which have steadily and demonstrably dropped on Twitch since release, are an indicator to me that interest is waning. Even EVE, meanwhile, has over 400 avg viewers.
To claim otherwise because of a PvP event has no basis in fact. Instead, I would simply say that the game is not convincing in its current form.

Here, found my post where I posted it:

Where do you get these facts from (the marked one)? I would like to have an insight into this so that it can be regarded as a valid source.
Otherwise, all I read here are assertions written by a frustrated player.

Wait, what? I need to update my first post:
People are planning a battle event in the PvP zone with a Star Wars theme so that they do PvP, although it is only RP and not PvP. The whole thing is supposed to happen under the supervision of an org that is responsible for security, because they are expecting trouble, otherwise they wouldn't call in security.

Now the players complain that they were disturbed by another group because they could not do their RP battle in a PVP zone that is accessible to everyone. On top of that, they complain because BOO is providing content to ATOM, which was apparently responsible for the security? Imagine a security company suddenly having to work.

No matter what happens in this thread. The drama, the salt and the immature behaviour have at least brought some life into this joint.

So many tears, so little time! Its absolutely mind boggling that all of this childish crying is going on!

    Welcome to god damn PVP!!

So first... this pathetic little costume party
    - Get some real skills and design a ship! And buffoon can copy crap someone else made already!
    - Get some skills! Don't enter into a PVP event or territory only to throw a tantrum that PVP HAPPENES!
    - If you REALLY gave a damn about playing the part then you fools would have abandoned your ships the second they were shot the first time (because thats how pathetic Star Wars ships performed), abandoned the core, and force respawned back in mommies basement!

    And most importantly...
    - Welcome to god damn PVP!! Don't like it, stay the hell out!

I totally disagree with the thought that there should be allowed a way for players to "create" safe zones for events. Its glaringly clear that something like that would result in nothing but abuse and exploitation. Don't want to get spanked... stay the hell out of the cookie jar!

I have ticked PvP.  Without that, you have no reason to build, capture or fight a material depletion battle.

Hello everyone, Sylva, leader of Band Of Outlaws here.

This thread, the official DU discord and the Memeserver have all gotten a lot of traffic and I thought I would drop by and leave some of my thoughts here for you all. I acknowledge and understand that the Star Wars fans who created the event feel that we, BOO and some of our allies, when crashing their event yesterday, "ruined it." And yes, Skilo has it right when he says that we did it because we could. Those of you who are arguing against the Star Wars IP being in the game... well, tbh, I love Star Wars, it has inspired more than one generation of space dreamers, and hopefully, many more to come. That having been said, there is more to this story (and hopefully, for the story of Dual Universe).

We originally had someone sign up for the Star Wars event who was building a legit PvP meta Star Wars ship. At the time, I was advised that we were also giving info to the Star Wars group on how to build PvP meta ships, and that advice was generally not followed/heeded. As the date loomed closer it became apparent that the ship, according to our standards, was only about 10% complete, and so our member withdrew from the Star Wars event.

We then heard that ATOM was being paid to provide security for the event, and that was when we decided to party crash it.

The thing is, when you look at what Dual Universe intends to be, a civilization building game - there should, in my opinion, player made safe zones in which events like this could be held in. This is an event that you would hold in the heart of an area that has an enforced edge of space, so pirate incursions would be few and far between (and not be without repercussions). We very much support this. We expect to be hunted down because of our actions. We will be disappointed if we aren't.

We already don't hunt the small fries. We already do not pursue freighters and small ships. We have historically only hunted the larger org tagged ships. Our groups already PvP against each other. We haven't done a PvP event since the End of the World event in December. Since then we have only had solos and small groups go out for PvP, which has still been few and far between. Mostly we have been doing the same as everyone else, recovering from the .23 patch, mining, industry, and building more ships. We got bored. We crashed the party and ruined a lot of hard work, and for what? Some laughs... and hoping to fight some ATOM and some hopefully buffed Star Wars capital ships.

As to the idea of waiting for DU to grow more... you may very well get what you request. BOO has diversified our gaming interests. We are playing Valheim, Starbase, and Last Oasis in addition to Dual Universe now. Don't worry though, we're still around and will still be active in Dual Universe. We will sporadically come out and throw down. So try to be prepared for us. Build meta ships. Bring your friends. You don't know when we will strike.

Prepare for the changes that are coming.

So he makes sure that someone's whole progress is destroyed by killing him just for fun. If you're really mean, you kill him again when he tries to get his own loot.
But since you can save ships as BP in DU, you end up losing what you lose in other mmorpgs or survival games: time and loot.

I do have empathy for people in real life.  I can only make assumptions, but mine are these people doing the star wars thing are using free time to engage in a hobbie.  Further more, they are also bound by the rules, and entering pvp zone,  anything can happen. And after the "fight" regardless of how it goes, I take it as they are still alive and well in real life and that also makes me happy. And for their to be winners in a game someone has to lose. Part of healthy competition.  So I really have no idea what you are talking about.

Otherwise, read the golden rules of Eve Online, a game from 2004. DU wanted to attract the Eve players according to JC.

And drawing an analogy with a homeless person to a game is somewhat... questionable.
