I am seeing players stop playing now as they do not know if there is a wipe coming or not.  The lack of communication in my opinion is insulting to the time we spent testing the Beta for them.

I have made so many tickets and help fix so many issues over the past 2 years as I am sure many of you have too.  We at least deserve honesty and to be apart of the discussion of resetting the server and to what extent it is reset.

Yes, yes you can wait. Nothing we say matters, we're gonna get this shoved down our collective throats either way so why spend time reading our responses?

'Doesn't meet our vision of Dual Universe' I'd really appreciate anyone within NQ taking 30 minutes to an hour to film a video or write a blog about the vision for Dual Universe going into and after launch...

With launch coming up and little to scant details on over-reaching game design implementations of features promised that won't make it to release. Pair that with features in Athena that were never promised... and it makes sense that the DU Community is at least owed a video explaining the vision of the game going forward... as it's clearly not the one people bought into.

Stop dancing around the elephants in the room NQ brought to the party, you're only harming your own product by staying silent.

Customers are owed an explanation. Rip the bandaid off, clean the wound, and let stuff heal. This festering infection that NQ created isn't gonna heal on its own.

I'm not sure this is a devblog.. it's mostly a very generic description of what will be introduced at Athena and the only thing that is somewhat specific is the timer on shields..

    Which issues?

UPDATE: Not sure how I read minimum as maximum but the text does say minimum.. so let's see how this plays out. I removed my comments for now..

    Then on the stasis weapon:

This is NQ ticking the "we have provided ECM as defense" box.. How this would as a counter is entirely unclear though as it does not in anyway actually provide an out and still forced a non-combatant into PVP engagements. It is a nonsense argument.

    On PVP voxel improvements
So, what is the issue and how have you been able to improve the system?

    And the banger:

NQ: "play the way we want or we wil make you"

First off, so much for player driven content and gameplay. That seems to only apply as long as you play nicely with what NQ wants.
Second, would be nice if NQ actually shared their vision for Dual universe, not just for PVP but in general, as it would seem to me that it is entirely unclear what that vision is and frankly, I have to doubt that there is such vision.

After reading this DevBlog I am non-the-wiser on how any of these things work than I was before. Pretty much we have to go and try these things out and randomly experiment to even find out how they work or interact with other systems. Details matter, and if they aren't provided in DevBlogs, then what is the point of a DevBlog?

One loyal player is worth 10 new players. Every MMO that ever wiped had a temporary bump of tourists, then within a couple months had even less players than it had before the wipe. Look at the stats:

    Atlas (spot the wipes): https://steamcharts.com/app/834910#All
    Same for Last Oasis: https://steamcharts.com/app/903950

Even New World now has 1/5th the player it had during open beta.

And here's the opposite story - an 'open world' space game that has never wiped, also gets a short-lived bump on each release but always settles ABOVE previous av. player count by always focussing on releasing new features and content, NEVER WIPING and letting players keep what they already have: https://steamdb.info/app/275850/graphs/

There were to many drastic changes already. I wish NQ is doing some good brainstorm before the next surprise hits the community.
So many places near to my base have been given up after the last changes. I'm very concerned. Friends all gone.

I have just one small but nice base on one tile. Spending more then 500kk for all my schematics - dug all out myself by hand.
If NQ definitely want me to quit as well, then just wipe all that shit and I'm done. I would see it as a modern way of decommissioning.

Can we have more info on just how much you are going to slow heavy haulers,  like what sort of speed reduction vs mass please ?

Good info, thanks for the devblog. But how exactly do the stasis weapons work? Do they decrease the max speed of the target by a flat amount? Or do they reduce engine/retro/adjustor thrust? Or do they increase the the effective mass of the ship, sort of like ships currently behave when approaching max speed? Does this affect the target's adjustor maneuverability?

EDIT: Also, could you give us the formula for the ship speed changes, so we can get some expectations of how fast ships might be?

Which is my point pretty much. I can understand when a (technical) game requirement needs to bypass that, as is he case withet 30K max speed cap. What I do not like and feel NQ should at all cost prevent, is using "magic" to bypass these laws when there is a viable and IMO effectively better solution that sticks to them.

Just capping speeds based on mass to me is just a cheeap cop out from designing an actual solution. It squarerly falls into the "lets carpet bomb the field to try and hit the nail's head" category which NQ tends to go for pretty much everywhere.

Athena will bring a speed cap based on Mass and a statis weapon which seem primarily focussed towards smaller ships being able to slow down larger ships.

To be honest, I feel both these changes effectively do the same thing and seem to mostly be targeting PVP situations. They effectively also impact missions in general due to them slowing down ships and making missions longer certainly with the need to fly outside of the pipes.

These changes are bad because they really do not add anything to the game, they only make things worse AND what they try to achieve is already available in the current implementation of how ships accelerate.

This is also brute forcing something which easily can be done much more effectively, efficiently, and generally more elegant.

Currently, ships will accelerate to the max limit across all constructs of 30K. all that is needed here is a tweak of this curve to slow down the rate of acceleration relative to mass and make high mass constructs take a very long time to reach that cap where the relation between max thrust and construct mass is the multiplier defining how long this takes.

The solution which IMO is massively better and would make much more sense would be that cores have a capacitor value, much like their combat stress, which determines what can be fitted to the construct. Elements like containers, engines, shields and weapons will have a capacity value and so a ship designer will need to take these into account when building.

This would lead to ships being built much more to purpose and would lead to PVP groups designing ships in different configurations to catch and attack fast and early on to then follow up with heavier constructs for the final blow and to hold the spoils.

At the same time, haulers can be designed for both cargo capacity and thrust where you could build for fast acceleration with less cargo or vice versa..

Suddenly and with minimal changes from te side of NQ, a lot of options and abilities become available, and these can be further enhanced by talents and possible future element buffs.

And these ideas are not new, they have been shared and discussed for a very long time, certainly since the first hints of a possible speed cap for cores were heard from the side of NQ. Unfortunately as is generally the case, NQ never engaged with us on these ideas and just pushed ahead with what IMO really is an inferior system which is detrimental to the game and brute forces something which could be used in a much more player focussed way.

Where did JC say there would be a wipe?

What he actually said was, here (1:30) the reason for a wipe would be "(there is) something that we need to fix and there is no other but to wipe to fix it. I don't see anything like that coming... it's something that would happen if we really had no choice..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOp9nDzkxpc

Then he said here (58:26), when they were considering a terrain wipe for Alioth, "there would be a gold rush to get back to whatever you wanted. That's actually not a good idea. We decided that we would rather not do that. There has already been a lot of investment made by a lot of people to terraform very very substantial parts of the planets... It would be a very bad thing to say 'sorry guys, restart from scratch.'" And that was just on a terrain wipe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai3Kk37ntgg

Sure, NQ re-neged on the terrain wipe. (We all saw how that went.) It doesn't mean it's cool to reneg on game wipe as well.

I have to say i'm having a hard time understanding this.

When you say you're discussing a wipe internally, do you mean that you're discussing whether there is, or might be a technical reason that would require a wipe?

Or are you discussing the possibility of wiping current customer's progress, for the purpose of providing a "fresh start" for perspective new customers?

The last clear statement that we were given was that you would do your best not to wipe our progress.  And I've been playing the game with that statement in mind, since then.

Saying that you are having a discussion, without clarifying which of those discussions you are having, is just throwing more gasoline on the fire.

No rush to answer the wipe question from me. If there's a wipe and I lose my hard-earned stuff, then I won't be continuing. Really keen to play this game for many more years, but absolutely will not start from scratch again.
