Wouldn't use it tho because that's why I have alts and I don't split training time between chars (less specialization in the same amount of time), but I can see what you mean now

I agree. I will probably use a second account as well but not everyone will be able/willing to invest in a second account.

...why not use the 3 chars per account for that? really the same thing... ?

Rather than log out and log back into different chars. When you log in, you log into your active clone.

Adds an additial function to bases, territories and L ships to house clones.

It would also do away with the need for a fast travel mechanic as people would be able to have a clone where they need to be. For example, having a clone at their territory ready to defend perhaps their main and another clone on a mining expedition on another planet.

From a PVP standpoint, you would want to defend your clone room wether it's on a ship or a base.

  3. So I was thinking about how EVE handles the cloning mechanic where you can spawn into a clone across the other side of the system. I think that is a system that could work well with DU.

The number of clones you could have would be limited to around 2 or 3 because for obvious reasons it would be broken to have unlimited clones.

On the creation of a clone that clone will have no skill points at all. Once you transfer into that clone it becomes the active clone and starts to collect skill points like normal which can be used to skill up that clone. Essentially allowing you to have two or three clones will different specializations in different places across the map. This would mean that no matter what when you log into the game you can always have a clone near to the action, however, you would, of course, have to first take your clone to that location.

On the death of a clone, you go back to the res node and would probably lose some skill points* (the only way I know to stop people from just force respawning*).

Transferring from clone to clone would just be as simple as activating an element like a pod which would then store your clone. If that element is destroyed your clone is respawned the next time you try to transfer into it.

This gets around things like boring A to B interplanetary trips where 99% of the time you would just do nothing.

  4. I'd like to see dialing.

I just find it more interesting than having fixed point to point gates.

Gates codes as well which could be leaked.

Just makes for really interesting gameplay.

Also, watching a massive structure powering up and orienting itself towards its destination would look amazing.

While the original probe idea sounds fine. I would like to see players instead having to physically travel to the location where they want to place the stargate.

The price is very generous for pledges and what they offer. I feel like they already are on the low side of pricing with the rewards.

    This.

Let's do some basic maths. Sapphire cost 287$ and gives me 50 DACS. Which, according to the crowdfunding page are 50 months of play time. Of course, we have no idea how much it will cost per month to play but let's work out how much my 50 DACS might be worth.

50 months of play time is 749$ @ 14.99$ pm (current world of Warcraft/EVE online monthly cost)

50 months of play time is 450$ @ 9$ pm

50 months of play time is 250$ @ 5$ pm

*this doesn't take into account for bulk buying 3m, 6m.

Let's say it is around the same price as EVE/WOW.

    749-287=462

So hypothetically speaking if I could sell my DACS in the real world (which you can't) I've essentially made a profit/saving of 462$ (obviously no one is paying full price for unofficial DACS when you could buy official for the same price.)

Of course, this is based on the game staying P2P for the required 4.1 years. For comparison, Elder Scrolls Online went F2P on the 17th of March 2015. Roughly 11 months after it released on 4th of April 2014. Of course, ESO going F2P was to be expected as you can't expect fans of Morrowind to pay monthly when past standalone games where B2P.

Will be NDA for pre-alpha stuff or till alpha - will it be ok to record pre-alpha stuff but wait to make it public till alpha premiere?

Depends on how the NDA is worded.

It might state you are not permitted to release any information from the pre-alpha at any time. A permanent NDA with no expiry date.

Most likely will be that you can record and release after the NDA is lifted. Be aware that you are responsible for the recording. So if someone gains access to it and makes it public, you are held accountable for breach of contract and subject to legal action.

Again it's all down to how the NDA is worded.

Don't take the risk. NDA's are serious business and could harm you, me, the community and the game we are currently invested in.

If they can get 1000 alpha testers in one world, building and flying ships from one planet to another, they will absolutely KILL Star Citizen.

    Can't wait  :P

I'm a big fan of advancements in gaming and DU, in my opinion, is miles ahead.

If they can pull this off they will be setting a new bar in gaming history.

The game they are trying to build is on the edge of what is possible.

    pre-alpha:

    1000 players

    1000 constructs

    1000 planet voxel edits per/s

It reminds me of CCP when they released their single shard universe back in 2003. Now 14 years later its Novaquarks chance to make gaming history.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It looks like I might be able to run an eGPU through thunderbolt though... Even though I'm on thunderbolt 1, as long as I had a thunderbolt-3-compatible enclosure it'd be future proof and I could just use an adapter. I'm not sure how effective it would be bottlenecking through 10gb/s thunderbolt though (also used for my external display).
