In a game this broad, it means to have fun - the figure out what you like to do, and to do it. It is our sandbox to imagine and be what we want without the confines of a themepark.

NMS is prolly great for solo explorer types. I'm an MMORPG elitist and rarely venture beyond the genre, yeah I know thats silly and I miss lots of good games, but I just cant get into non MMOs as much.

This is a big unveil on a big site with a big headline. INCOMING!

No sub means game directing power resides among the few whales. A sub means that power is spread out more equally among the player base. This is important when asking for things like new weapon tech vs ship skins that look like polka-dot unicorns

Looks neat

Steam is amazing but it also comes with a burden.

Frankly the old SWG TEF flag system with a few Pvp areas would be incredible
-
95% Pvp 5%safe zones

A pay per time model might be interesting. Buy 3 hours log in play those three. Come back and buy more when u have the time

Hope the crowd funding starts soon, I'd like to get in and play so I can give some real feedback on how things work.
Id buy in to get into pre alpha. This looks way more fun than space engineers.
I quoted you just to say, awesome Avatar image.
As for the crowd funding campaign, DU is already making major buzz more than many games I've seen head into crowd funding. I see it going very well for them.

rebuilding human civilization I think its the main focus. I need to go read the backstory in the blogs still but I believe the focus is rebuilding civilization. I don't know if they will be any other narrative past that though. to much narrative and it becomes less of a sandbox
Only if the narrative is forced on us via NPC quests and such. I dont think having a rich lore and things associated with it is constricting, especially if you can choose to ignore it.

This was full of info. I liked hearing about combat. EVE style will work fo the ships but I wonder if there will be FPS combat as well? I wonder if that will work differently or not. It might be neat if it didnt and it was also based on "locking on" to your target.
My one concern is relying on us to make too much and not providing some directional content. Something lore heavy. Maybe based on discovery and exploration. A thing for players to chase and head toward be it relics or keys to unlocking new tech or resources. A common storyline that we can all relate to while we create our own.

I need this in my life!

As long as it IS Sci Fi Ark but can support 1000 players and has persistence....I could be happy.
-
Star Wars clone wars pulled them off. Could work here.

You have the creepiest image
Ive been screaming for sandboxes for years but I worry that now that we have seen a few players will want more than a box to build and fight in. Now lame scripty quests, but some kind of direction or story content to participate in. Something to make the in game shared universe really feel like its a universe. EVE and Star Citizen look to do that well.

So... the game will be sub, right? I hope it will be sub, so we hopefully don't need to buy cosmetic shit
Maybe it will be sub with a cash shop for cosmetics?
-
I;m worried that in 2017 or 18 players now desire more than a sandbox.
-
The issue with not having a monthly is they often have to make a shop. Whales then dictate the direction and content of the game.
Relating question. If DU will be as player made as it sounds I wonder what can be offered to us as per expansion content or cosmetics.
-
It will be more "FPS like".
That works, especially in a space game. I wonder how deep it will be, will we have abilities as well or just, like, weapons that do things like heal for example.
Is this game for me?

This game can be what you make it, if you enjoy having complete freedom and little direction.
