  1. I am not the leader, don't know how I would react when pressured.

But I know no leader should have to yell out insults to people because of pressure.

You obviously have never been in a leadership role.

I can tell you as a leader IRL, that talks about policy making will always be heated BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. They should be. I would be more worried for a group that all thought the same.

What you did was try to throw those doors open. Now your upset that the people who have either been part of those discussions, seen them, or are mature enough to understand people argue, are making you out to be the bad guy.

    Come on...

  2. which tides? what, there was a battle? im just seeing two guys provide news and suddenly there is a rivalry?

    someone explain please >.>

Gravitational tides... ? I think its mostly one or two people being board and coming up with some funny drama story.  Maybe its the same guy!? :o  :D

  3. Could you elaborate a little? I've never read them and the internet doesn't explain the books in much detail.

FTL sensors, whatever the scifi explanation, will have to be very expensive. These should be the kind of things you only put on your massive capital ships to detect another fleet coming at you from a far off planet (or another system entirely)

All current ways of detecting like that use some wavelength of the EM spectrum. This can't travel faster than light. Even though that speed is somewhat relative.

If a ship could travel faster it would appear to be in two places. If it could even get close to C (speed of light) it would seam to suddenly disappear and reappear or it could look like it extends from point A to point B. We have no way of truly testing this since we can't get anywhere near that kind of speed irl.

I believe Star Trek uses something in subspace but I'm not familiar with it.

  4. Sensors are such a generic term.

I'm sure to begin with, sensors will be used to detect an avatar and perform something like opening a door. In their most basic sense, they detect either an avatar or a core unit, and emit a response that can be used by a DPU. More than likely, they will detect these things in a given geometric volume of space.

As a builder/programmer, I would like to have the ability to adjust the size and shape of that geometric volume.

An example would be something like a wireless access point. I can adjust its power to regulate its range, and I can purchase different antennas to adjust the shape. Anything from omnidirectional, to hemisphere, to cone, to a beam (for some sort of tripwire).

Once the above is programmed, then we can focus on the "space warfare" stuff.

Optical, IR, ES, and Radar could be variables that could be added to the basic sensor.

It is a generic term. Even a TV remotes work using RF sensors. At least the older ones. I also don't see the Devs adding in really complicated calculations for them either. That's why it will have to work on a volume around it.

  5. That's my guess as well. They got an All-in-One approach on sensors / radars.

The real question is, how tall this thing will be and if we'll have to deduce a ship's mast's height :P

There's a good picture of the USS HALSEY. It shows how big the Spy-1D is.

Hopefully they have figured out how to make them smaller in the future. If not these will only fit on big ships.

  6. I haven't read that one.

It looks more like sensor sweet. The antenna resemble the HF/VHF antenna we currently use. The black circles would be the optics. Visible and IR. The four sections with the dots look like phased array radars.

I'm not sure if that's how that will have it work in game but all of that tech is being used now. Looks like they just took what ships use now, mashed it together, and made it look like it goes in space instead of the ocean.

  7. In space, you don't need Radar in the traditional ping-pong setup of it, you need Optic Sensors, essentially really smooth mirrored surfaces that can pick up anything.

But in any case, here's the Radar Unit. It's on Twitter.

Most radars would work still. Probably better than they do in an atmosphere since there will be little to no refraction.

IR and ES sensors would work the best. Only problem with FTL speeds is both are slower than light.

Using those kinds of sensors would open the possibility for a ship or fleet to get into weapons range before you knew they were there.

The books Deep Space Star Carrier cover this problem in detail.

  8. Once the Core is disabled/destroyed, you should be able to deconstruct the wreck and even place a new core on it (so you can fly it around). You won't gain the blueprint for it, but if you capture enough of a single type of ship, you should be able to fully reverse engineer the design (manually, I might add).

Yea, take out the core it shouldn't be recognized as a construct anymore. That should be difficult without destroying most of the construct first though. I guess it will depend on the design.

  9. I think your over thinking the radars/detection. Whatever sensor type they chose to use, calculating those ranges for multiple ships each with possibly multiple sensors would make space flight unplayable if done realistically.

I expect it to be more like X sensor will see a contact at X distance.

  10. This reminds me of Entropia Universe. If you are repeatedly killed in a PvP area they will tell you to stop going there, if that much. I'm not sure how they handle verbal harassment but they are kinds strict about cussing in chat. As far as to make an auto filter that bleeps it out.

Cyber bullying is now illegal in most 1st world countries. I don't think NQ wants to get dragged through the mud about that.

Also, making someone's privat information public is illegal. At least in the States.

  11. I'm planing to focus on building and mining so I can build larger and more advanced constructs. At first faster and better equipped planetary vehicles. Then building the larger intersystem ships if none exist or I feel I could make a better one.

Have to find a niche market to capitalize.

  12. Yea it shouldn't be anything that would impact server load or lore significantly. Hostile creatures like your spider-wolf creatures would be enough. Something to provide players with a PVE element more than just going somewhere, mining, and then building whatever. The need to keep things safe from hostile players or organizations will be enough for most of us who are already interested.

  13. 1. CvC(someone has to buy my tanks)

    2. Beginnings of intersystem exploration

    3. Custom logos to be put on constructs

    4. In game tools or information on territories/political system

    5. A fringe NPC element at the edge of explored space. One that a player would have to fight and clear to claim new systems or worlds.

    6. Survival mechanics that would include the need to farm, increase the value of elements like hydrogen and oxygen.

A good day to you, wizardoftrash.

An artist is only limited by his mind, not resources.

Novaquark did away with our fears, when they released the latest ship building video. To our joy and pleasure we watched as they featured a cockpit with only the basic elements. We erred in our belief when we thought that cockpits could only come as a single element, but the developers showed us the light of truth and banished our fears.

Open topped constructs and hover bikes will be there as long as someone has the time and skill to create it. This game is truly promising a lot and cheers to the developers for coming through.

Do you have any particular style in mind, wizardoftrash?

I wish you a wonderful day.

    "

Ideas and layouts are already spinning in my head.  Could do some fun things with the thrusters if they don't require fuel to operate. A skate park could actually be made with how things stand now.
