I did that in school once a few years ago.

Jim: "I hit you with my sword. You're dead."
Sam: "Nu-huh! My ultra-mega-armour of blocking that specific sword blocks it!"
Jim: I have another sword. *stab*
Sam: Uh... My armour also blocks that.
Jim: *throws flaming pocket dust (props to anyone who knows it)*
    Sam: I have an ankh.

Don't be like Sam. Or Jim. He has basically infinite items.

Be Kuritho. Bring a real sword.

The same can be said of building a construct. Some people are minecraft veterans who build these massive structures that look amazing, and then there are people who build floating cubes. There needs to be an element where real world skills come into play with hacking being maths and building being... whatever that is. Want to find out how to do it, learn it. If you can play the game, you can access the internet. If you don't want to, hire someone who can.

Yeah, the only way to win this argument is not being involved. It should not be an argument about how the games mechanics should be, but rather a debate showing the pros and cons of different designs where NQ can then draw a verdict. Name calling and personal insults should never be involved. I may be a hypocrite (in fact, many of us are from time to time) but that does not change the fact that we get nowhere when we do not keep this civilised.

Anyway, there are solutions to the multi-boxing turret spam (this isn't EVE, think outside the box). If they are short range, use space artillery. If they are using space artillery, use a bomber squadron. If there is no way around them, hit somewhere else (improving your defense somewhere means you will lack defense elsewhere), such as when the enemy is blockading a gate with static turrets, use a different jumpgate, hit somewhere else or send scrap for them to shoot at so they waste ammo (the tactic used depends on the person in charge). Please note that only static constructs (bases and space stations) would have the ability to have auto turrets, and being static means that they CANNOT MOVE (no jumping, no moving out of position, nothing). I believe that multi-boxing will still be possible in DU, but not feasible. DU is too involved in its interaction for that to be efficient (whereas EVE is just turn-based combat with auto-fire enabled).

Since your body is still there when you 'die' (you don't really, but a body is left behind), people would be able to loot your implant (you know, the thing used to define to RDMS who you are and what you 'know' skills wise).

With this looted implant, you could retrieve the bit that broadcasts your signature, along with RDMS data. A quick reverse engineer later would allow you to have (maybe temporarily) the ability to impersonate the implant's last owner (i.e. the guy you salvaged it from), at least from a computer's perspective.

How the impersonation would be limited is that it would only last for a limited amount of time once activated, due to the degrading remnants of the implant. It would also not change your appearance, so other people would recognise you as an impostor (unless you have that field covered). It would also not change your DNA, so a DNA test (like at a high security bank) would not work, instantly throwing up red flags whilst that guard next to you pulls out his gun on you (this is, unless you can fool that too, Mr Bond).

Are you Yay or Nay? Did I miss anything? Any other suggestions? Well then, get to it!

Maybe this could happen if the implant is upgraded with advanced security, or that you are only warned if the hacker does poorly but still succeeds (where a higher security level makes it harder to do it undetected).

There could still be value there. Even if it is not used, something can be learnt.

I would say that the interval for failure would be based off the rank of your hacking and the rank of the device being hacked. could go all the way from 1 second to 20 for an interval (extremes)

Not everyone is a game designer. It requires seeing the big picture, seeing how one change affects everything else. However, I think he was referring to the refined implant rather than the freshly looted one

Just remember that the implant holds the rights of the person it belonged to, not just a get out of jail free card.

I'll create a new thread for this so that things can get back on topic.

What about the reality where Hitler cured cancer? The answer is: don't think about it.

Other than that, it also means that every fictional universe/multiverse also exists, because parallel universes can have different laws of physics (see vacuum decay and its ability to change the laws of physics), which includes every super hero universe, every story and that one dream you had where you were a katana wielding sci-fi hacker.

This thread is so full of bull. I'm loving it.

If you set up an area of denial on the scripts, you can have "solo-flown" battleships (it's simple math, don't worry people who payed attention in school will make those scripts for you). Just don't expect the scripts to fire the turrets in a coordinated and focused pattern.

Translation for those with no understanding of the arcane art of "words". Just because something is possible, doesn't mean it's efficient. If you spread 10 turrets, 100 dps, across a ship's armor plating surface area that can tank 500 dps across the area you are firing (and dumb-firing via the Area of Denial scripts), you are NEVER, EVER EVEREVER going to be as efficient as the ship that has fully player-manned turrets, that can coordinate their attacks and fire on your pretty bridge and cave your ship's metaphorical skull in.

Yeah, please, be my guest, all of you, add randomly targeting turrets on your ships. I'm certain it will work fine.

From a lore perspective, the LUA scripting is limited as to not recreate AI that can kill us. It makes no sense for someone to create an automated battleship when combat automation is prohibited by the society. Maybe you could link multiple turrets together so that they can all be fired by one person, but can only fire in one direction or at one target.

Might be everything but your nanoformer and maybe your armour (depending on how light it is).

I would be fine with losing everything on death, because your avatar is not the thing that will carry around the most valuable stuff, that would be your construct. From a looter's perspective, you get the ship (or whats left of it) so you shouldn't care if the enemy lost his avatar's items or not, you have his ship.

Maybe later we could have some sort of pocket dimension bag (like a bag of holding) that could store some items that persist across bags, but only for your character (like an ender chest in minecraft). When you die, you would still need to get access to another bag, but the items there would still be 'yours'.
