Hang on, what is the point of being a spy right now? What is there to gain except the ire of your target? If the answer is "there isn't", then why are people mad at you for being accused of spying?

To clarify, NQ will treat one account as one person. If you are sharing the account, the actions of one of the users pertains to the entire account. For example, if one user breaks the terms of service (such as hacking or harassment), and the account gets banned, you can't use the excuse 'that was my friend who was sharing the account". You also cannot multibox with just one account, since only one character per account can be logged in at one time.

Disclaimer: I do not condone sharing an account with someone else.

Or put all your blueprints in a single data center surrounded by a forcefield where the people there can copy the blueprints when needed (like Scarif from Rogue One)

A mid-ground would be that they don't consume power, but if there is no active power source (generator, battery, solarcell, etc.) then they turn off automatically.

mrjacobean got a reaction from jmorrison51 in Ship Ideas?
I think that most people are going to own a multi-purpose (personal) ship, one that has ftl capability, a decent sized cargo hold, some weapons, atmospace flight, etc. (to what balance depends on the player)
It is more common for orgs to have the specialised vessels, like pure combat vessels, carriers, mining barges, cargo haulers, troop transports etc. because they have the resources to field multiple ships at once, and the variety of ships complement each other (a carrier is useless if there is only one pilot). I imagine that BOO (and other orgs with a relaxed structure) will field personal ships instead of structured fleet due to the nature of such orgs.

Instead of having NPC/BOT shuttles, I bet there will be someone who will just build a cheap one and use it as a taxi. Maybe even a taxi org (an early version of an interplanetary transport org). Remember that mining will not remain stage one of player progression forever.

I would not recommend 'selling' DACs early on, since the price will be WILD. If you find them at a really low price, buy them (their value only increases with time/player count)

mrjacobean got a reaction from gyurka66 in Bounty System: fun, fair and less abusable
Who does the tax go to? Wouldn't this remove money from the economy if it goes down a drain (since we have a fixed-ish amount of money in the economy)?

Surely you don't lose a contract unless a target is terminated or you abandon it. Also having the number of other hunters hidden would make it so that the hunters are cautious about how leisurely they would hunt their target.

But the hunters already lose out by not getting the bounty, meaning it was a waste of time. Why would you take more from them?! There is no penalty from having more hunters, so why penalise having more of them?

I believe that this would drastically reduce the amount of 'official' bounty hunters in game and therefore make the official bounty system useless, people would just do it through unofficial channels which would have no guidelines or enforcement.

mrjacobean got a reaction from Lethys in Different start systems
This would split the playerbase and only effect the players at launch (both bad things in an MMO). Imagine the frustration on finding that you and your friend have started on different planets when you were going to work from the start. In the long run it wouldn't achieve much either. There are already factions in the game (see the top 20-ish orgs). Remember it would also take several months in order to have common transport between neighboring systems (the few months to get the stargate expansion and then a few more months to build and deploy enough of them).

Just something I threw together from DU video and bits of space-related audio (Apollo 11, Soyuz, etc)  to create something ambient I could just leave on as background noise or have up as a background while I did other work.

The volume may be a bit loud, although I tried to pull it down a bit.

It would technically be the same for the level/specialisation of tool your using. Some tools may increase efficiency, others may decrease crafting time. Try to make a crafting profession as deep as a combat profession. Have not just skill level but factors like material quality, crafting precision, build speed and power drain all a part of things to consider when crafting.

For example, when creating a warp drive component, you could either make as many as possible at an average quality (faster to build and less power drain when building) or focus on making a few/one precisely (which will take longer and consume more power to make). Each of these circumstances would be better with specialist tools built for the task, and these tools would include workstations, suits, specialist nanoformers, etc., which are also made of components which themselves could be built to give variable bonuses.

Think of it as 'real life' that has no threat in failure. You can break the 'law', kill people,  go into exploration, mess around giving flowers to passersby praying to the almighty hello kitty, design ships and buildings, the list is endless. Think of something that you want to do and do it without any threat of real repercussions (well, apart from a few things set by NQ, but they are set for a good reason and mainly involve around real life entanglement, such as hacking someones account or harassing them in chat). If the venture leads to you fail, you pick up the pieces and carry on. You need to remember that it is just a game, don't work for someone in game that you don't want to. I, personally, usually don't play games for fun, I play it for satisfaction of a task well done.

Logistics is a main part of the game. Its what keeps all of the facilities running and its what many people will be doing (the main game revolves around resources and their inevitable journey into being used to make more resources, be that by mining equipment or by bullet). You cannot have a discussion about a game mechanic and not have its effect of logistics and the economy mentioned.

Twerk is someone who has seen enough to understand how this kind of game works (the economy based MMORPG that just happens to be in space). Whilst he may come off as rude or aggressive, he is right (most of the time). Making people look like fools is how he gets the point across, and when you start yelling at him for making you look silly, his job is done.

mrjacobean got a reaction from Astrophil in RDMS and mistaken identity via Implant Salvage
Since your body is still there when you 'die' (you don't really, but a body is left behind), people would be able to loot your implant (you know, the thing used to define to RDMS who you are and what you 'know' skills wise).

With this looted implant, you could retrieve the bit that broadcasts your signature, along with RDMS data. A quick reverse engineer later would allow you to have (maybe temporarily) the ability to impersonate the implant's last owner (i.e. the guy you salvaged it from), at least from a computer's perspective.

How the impersonation would be limited is that it would only last for a limited amount of time once activated, due to the degrading remnants of the implant. It would also not change your appearance, so other people would recognise you as an impostor (unless you have that field covered). It would also not change your DNA, so a DNA test (like at a high security bank) would not work, instantly throwing up red flags whilst that guard next to you pulls out his gun on you (this is, unless you can fool that too, Mr Bond).

Are you Yay or Nay? Did I miss anything? Any other suggestions? Well then, get to it!

mrjacobean got a reaction from Veln in Suggestion : Sudoku for Decyphering / Hacking minigames.
There are many situations where this would bite people in the ass. For example:
    - Your wireless mouse runs out of power, hack failed.
    - You go to drink with your off hand, miss-clicking and ruining the puzzle
    - You get pulled away from you computer by another person

From a veteran's perspective, what about the way EVE deals with salvage scanners and artefact scanners? Would that be a good minigame for hacking?
