Yeah, the only way to win this argument is not being involved. It should not be an argument about how the games mechanics should be, but rather a debate showing the pros and cons of different designs where NQ can then draw a verdict. Name calling and personal insults should never be involved. I may be a hypocrite (in fact, many of us are from time to time) but that does not change the fact that we get nowhere when we do not keep this civilised.

Anyway, there are solutions to the multi-boxing turret spam (this isn't EVE, think outside the box). If they are short range, use space artillery. If they are using space artillery, use a bomber squadron. If there is no way around them, hit somewhere else (improving your defense somewhere means you will lack defense elsewhere), such as when the enemy is blockading a gate with static turrets, use a different jumpgate, hit somewhere else or send scrap for them to shoot at so they waste ammo (the tactic used depends on the person in charge). Please note that only static constructs (bases and space stations) would have the ability to have auto turrets, and being static means that they CANNOT MOVE (no jumping, no moving out of position, nothing). I believe that multi-boxing will still be possible in DU, but not feasible. DU is too involved in its interaction for that to be efficient (whereas EVE is just turn-based combat with auto-fire enabled).

Because those without permission will not be able to go into build-mode and take down the door (no build permission). Instead, they will have to break the door through some other method, which should take longer and attract attention.

mrjacobean got a reaction from Warden in Subscriptions and DAC's: Can You Afford Them?
Usually a subscription is used to pay for servers and development. MMOs tend to last a lot longer than your average Fallout game, hence why Fallout 76 shouldn't have subscriptions (EDIT: Fallout 76 might have a subscription, similar to Elder Scrolls Online. However, due to the type of MMO that it is, it might include free to play elements, whereas they wouldn't be as suitable in Dual Universe ). In a game like Halo (also multiplayer) the server and development costs after release are paid by those who purchase DLC and, these days, micro-transactions. The Dual Universe developers don't want the downsides that DLC or micro-transactions have, and they want the game to last, hence a monthly subscription.

I understand why people wouldn't want to pay a recurring fee to play a game, however it means that they can try the game for a lot less ($15 instead of $60) before they commit more money to it. Also, there is an item in game that will give you a month of free time, so once you can get a steady stream of it you don't have to worry about paying the subscription as much.

In addition, these threads will close since you are replying to it way after it has been deemed dead. I recommend you compile everything you want to reply to and make a new thread that contains the links to these threads. Also, most of these threads will not have all the recent information regarding the game, so statements made in them are more likely to be inaccurate.

I very much approve of the categories of territory tiles. I think sanctuary tiles are a great idea, but I have a few questions:

Will the MSA be located on only moons, or are they meant to be found on every planetoid aside Alioth? (and if only moons, will there be an ASA on the planet instead?)
Will there be multiple groups of sanctuary tiles spread across the surface?
Can Sanctuary tiles be taken as part of a war?
If not, is there a way (direct or indirect) to gain ownership of a sanctuary tile when the owner is uncooperative or gone? (and would Sanctuary Control Units make a difference?)

I think you might be underestimating him. Don't let your 'hatred' of those who disagree stop you from thinking straight. Attacks against character are only useful if you want to undermine their ability to reason (and therefore bait them into doing what you want them to do). And attacking Twerk's character means you lose, since it is usually a last resort (it is also what he wants you to do).

Be rational, play devil's advocate, learn when to back down (I go by the phrase "If someone disagrees, check again to see if you are right").

PvE content is essentially PvP content without (or limited) other player involvement. Such activities include exploration, building, mining and salvaging. However, it is likely that during PvE activities you will encounter PvP content (since negotiations are also PvP), for example being attacked by pirates or being questioned by a border patrol.

You could have a title system similar to early SWG, where once you max out a skill group you gain a title from that skill group saying "Master Hacker".

depends what you define as better. The EVE system is fairer to those with less time than one in which you have to grind the skills up

mrjacobean got a reaction from Kurock in Pay-2-Win: Does it have a definition at all?
May I mention that even games without P2W mechanics are P2W. There are factors outside the game, such as internet speed or computer hardware, that can be improved with money to make you 'win' (given how loosely the term is being used at the moment). Therefore nearly any competitive game is P2W.

Technicality aside, anything that would be purchased with a significant amount of DACs (such as when paying to win*) would take time to come into effect. It's not like the whale can just spawn in 20 battleships at a moment's notice, they'ed have to sell the DACs to get the money, then request them to be built by shipyards, which take time and resources to be built (alternatively buy them, but you can't guarantee a seller). You then have to crew them with crew members, and then train them to work as a unit. By the time that's done, whatever event sparked the DAC offload has long since been resolved, nearly always not in your favour. Money isn't the resource that decides a conflict, its the assets you have on hand at the time. Money can be turned into said assets, but not fast enough

Another option would be to hire your fleet at a moments notice, but that can be a slippery slope, since mercenary fleets, especially battleships, are hard to come by. If you hire multiple fleets, you can't guarantee that they will work together as a unit, and they may even become disloyal if they think their pay isn't enough.

[Insert examples to last 'till the end of time...]

Anyway, if your way to deal with problems is to throw money at them, you shouldn't be in charge.

    * 'paying to win' is the act of throwing money at something to do something. P2W mechanics are built for this exact purpose, but other mechanics can be used to achieve the same effect. DACs can be used to do this, but they are not a pay to win mechanic, since it wasn't built for the exact purpose of allowing those with money to win easier. It's purpose is to allow those either without money or without time to play the game, which after all is a plus since: players = content.

That requires path-finding in a world in which path-finding is hell. It's better just to have you log off as normal. I recommend Kurock's idea. Remember that moderation is key, swinging too far in a certain direction (harcore/softcore as an example) would not work.

mrjacobean got a reaction from yamamushi in 3rd person "drone" SHIP MANOUVER
Instead of having a drone to give 3rd person perspectives, we could have a CGI vision mode that shows other constructs dependant on your sensors (you can only see what your sensors can detect). If the construct cannot be seen as a target, due to stealth or your radar being jammed, you cannot see it in 3rd person mode (even if you could see it by looking out of a window). Think of it as a cross between the function of an 3rd person camera and the aesthetics of scanning for anomalies/signatures in EVE Online.

You could also have skills related to it, such as showing more detailed information (size, distance, bearing, etc.) of a construct when you have a higher skill level in Signature Analysis, or giving targeting buffs against a selected hostile ship. This effectively gives tactical officers easier access to information, but it detaches them from thing that they might be unaware of. For instance, this CGI mode might not show guns firing or any asteroids (which could change depending on equipment quality and/or skill level), and won't show anything that isn't targetable. You could then have a dedicated recon ship that transmits sensor data to the other ships in the fleet, allowing them to use the CGI mode without needing a high quality sensor array, whilst giving the opponent the ability to severely blind the enemy by taking out said recon ship.

EDIT: Navigation/Helm officers could also use this system, but looking at objects on a larger scale (system map)

mrjacobean got a reaction from nidan007 in Character amount per account
To clarify, NQ will treat one account as one person. If you are sharing the account, the actions of one of the users pertains to the entire account. For example, if one user breaks the terms of service (such as hacking or harassment), and the account gets banned, you can't use the excuse 'that was my friend who was sharing the account". You also cannot multibox with just one account, since only one character per account can be logged in at one time.

Disclaimer: I do not condone sharing an account with someone else.

Hang on, what is the point of being a spy right now? What is there to gain except the ire of your target? If the answer is "there isn't", then why are people mad at you for being accused of spying?
