I saw that game, and it does look very interesting. I hope it turns out well but I am not confident enough in it to pledge, personally, for a couple reasons. First, it has a referal program like a pyramid scheme. Second, they team behind it seems a bit haphazard (they have an odd combination of backgrounds). And third, the main game mechanic is very innovative, but also very challenging to develop. So I will most likely not be backing the game, and keeping my support mostly limited to DU.

Now, that said, the game does look very innovative and if they manage to get the node system working, it will be a revolution in fantasy mmos. If it comes out and is good, I will definitely play it some.

As much as I would love the graphics and realism of Star Citizen mixed with the freedom and customization of Dual Universe, they aren't very compatible from a development standpoint. Star Citizen is based on highly manicured content created by the developers, whereas DU is based on systems that allow for players to create everything. They are both good approaches, but they have different pluses and minuses. For SC, the devs can ensure that everything is high quality and works together well but there is not the same amount of content and there cannot be the same level of player customization. For DU, there is way more potential content and players can create and do almost anything they like with a very high level of customization, but the devs cannot ensure that everything follows the same design scheme (like flying penises for example, or cube ships of death), and there is a greater potential for things not quite working together perfectly.

Both are good, but they are different.

Star Citzen its great on ships, realism, mechanics, graphics, fly simulation...
DU will be great at game-play, freedom, market.....

I'd like to have time to play both

Just wanted to say hi, I have been following this game for quite a while and just recently bought gold. I started voxels with Minecraft, moved to Landmark and now I am waiting for the next step in the evolution.

Good to see this game has come as far as it has, I can't wait to get in and make some new friends/enemies.

I'm not so much for using robots to make up for lack of manpower, that should not be a thing. But i do agree with Twerk here with the one controllable robot pet thing. We could even re-live Robot Wars by sending your own robot versus another in an octagon, and bet some cash money on that.

    Hello everyone!

I found this game only yesterday. But what really brought me here, was the fact, that it had "MMO" in its description.
That made it immediately clear to me, that the creators have a large scale multi player deployment in mind from the very beginning.
Which was so important to me, since there are many games out there with so many amazing ideas, but they all fail when it comes to scale.
So for me those games are more proof of concept. It seems, that the time has come, where you guys can take all those nice concepts and put them on top of a rock solid technical foundation! So you get some big thumbs up from me !

I believe the goal would be to make the custom image item expensive enough that MODs would have time to approve each image.

When a player uploads an image via this item, it would probably have a 24 hour delay before it could be used, and during that time a Mod would either veto the image (if it is deemed inappropriate), approve the image (turning it "on" immediately), or do nothing which would turn on the image when the timer expires. This allows the item to function correctly even if they are having high work strain or taking some time off.

There will already be a way to report inappropriate constructs, so I imagine the same feature could be used to report inappropriate decals (in the cases where a mod either approved an inappropriate image without understanding it, or did nothing and it was approved by default). People WILL be making inappropriate constructs as it is, but the consequences for one getting caught might be bad enough that it doesn't become a problem.

I would rather not see something like this implemented for another reason. Creative players will be able to use the construct building tools to create their own images and logos in-game. They already demonstrated the ability to "paint" lines onto the hull of a ship, so even if you "painted" squares you could create a pixelated logo or flag with a little planning, and copy/paste it as a blueprint into and onto your other constructs. If you are able to use a color-slider, these logos could look quite complex.

In addition, adding a sliced wedge-shape could allow us to make more complex images. Take my banner/user image for example: it is made entirely out of squares and triangles (because I'm hoping to be able to use that technique to slap this puppy onto my structures and ships).

Because we will be able to sculpt and carve voxels, we may be able to "spread" fairly thin pieces of colored hull onto a flat piece. The way you would do this is place a thin/flat hull piece, and use the reduction tool to carve the sheet into the shape you really want for that color. Then slap that thin piece onto your existing hull and repeat for each color layer. This will be quite a bit like mural painting, or painting with gel medium!

Hey ZaneyHD! Welcome to the community!
As there is a big team behind a game like this and they have to provide super expensive Server to play the game in high quality, in my opinion a subscription model is the only really reasonable option to guarantee a seamless and great experience. Lets say you watch a movie once a month, the movie will entertain you approximately 2h and you would have to pay about 16€ to own it. You would play more than 2h a month, would you?
    Cheers

How much does a typical gamer spend on hardware and software for gaming in a year? This is the price of roughly 3 AAA game titles per year, so roughly 4 months per AAA game.

How many xbox one games really have 4 months worth of steady game content? There are a few sure, but 3 per year? Unlikely.

Sandbox game junkies often spend tons of hours all in one game. MMO players often spend tons of hours all in one game. The kinds of players that will appreciate DU are the kinds for which $156/year breaks down into a very small and reasonable $/hour ratio. For the players that have the most time to play and the least income, there is a good chance it'll break down to $0/year with the ability to trade for game time in the in-game market. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

    EDIT for an additional point

-Gaming is a hobby, and hobbies can sometimes be expensive. For someone who plans to play a bit each day, or have longer binge-sessions on the weekend, this could be considered someone's primary hobby. The advantage here is that if someone decides that they no longer want to play, they can stop paying and allocate future funds towards something else.

Lastly this model ensures that the Developers will be able to create regular expansions, which will keep the game in a place where we want to have it as a primary hobby.

Hey man I totally agree with you, I mean who would pay $156 a year for a game? Nobody!!!

I mean, it's not like there are over 15 million people playing subscription model MMOs right now who pay more than that XD

Please pronounce my name as mefe because good luck saying mefsh XD. (Again It was a typo.)

Since this is a video game forum here are some of my favorite video games:
     Minecraft NO I AM NOT 6... I am 6 and 1/2,
     Factorio,
     And terraria.

I have also have played eve (Probably like 30-40 hours) but I found it to be not worth the subscription. Hopefully Dual Universe will be different. The sandbox part will probably increase my enjoyment of it a lot. As you can see from my list I like sandbox games despite me being a horrible builder.

    Just Awful.

Villspor reacted to ATMLVE in A polite request that all members of these forums please be more conscious about what they quote in their messages
Frequently there are new topics which contain large amounts of text, i.e. people who type up a lot of what may be on their mind about the game, and then post it. People who reply to this topic then quote the entire original post in their reply even though they are the first one replying, and then they themselves may only respond with a sentence or two of their own. In situations like this, I think we can all figure out what you are responding to, without the need of a quote... If there are zero replies, it is quite unnecessary indeed to put the entire original post into your reply as a quote.

The same goes for all of the first few messages in a topic. If you are responding to the original post, even if you are the third or even fifth reply, you do not usually need to quote the whole thing; a topic can be read like a conversation. A quote is for longer discussions where you are replying to specific other posts; or, if the topic is something like multiple pages, then it is of course much more appropriate to quote the original post. If you believe that if you do not quote the original post people may be confused with which post you are responding to, then in that particular situation it is more appropriate to put the quote in. Of course, if you are responding to a post that isn't the original, then by all means quote who you're responding to!

The thing about these forums is that quotes are black with white text, and regular posts are a different shade of black with a different shade of white text. It is not always easy to immediately identify where a quote ends and where the post begins; and when I go into a new topic and see a three paragraph original post, then scroll down to find the first three replies are all quoting the entire original post and responding with a just few sentences of their own, it just makes everything a pain to read, especially on mobile (the desktop mode of mobile that is).

I point at no one in particular, and take no hostile action against or have an ill feelings towards anyone that does what I'm advocating against. It's just something I've noticed a lot and feel the forums would be cleaner if people just put a little more thought into whether or not they actually need a quote in their post.

That's the point of this whole topic; please just put a little bit more thought into what you are quoting when you reply. Ask yourself if it is really necessary.

    Hi everyone,

We can't give you details yet about how turrets will work as it refers to game mechanics still currently being designed.

However, what we can tell you is what the team is aiming for:
    - Giving the ability to players to build some automated defense for their base.
    - Avoiding to give the ability to players to have a huge multicrew ship entirely manageable by one player. This would defeat the purpose of multiplayer crew ships, and would end up destroying the team play we are aiming for. People wanting to play solo will be able to do many things, but not everything: piloting alone a multiplayer crew ship with maximum efficiency will be one of the things they won't be able to do. Team play must be rewarded by some exclusive activities and piloting a multiplayer crew ship is the biggest one. Without strong incentive, team play just won't happen.
    - Regarding AI, it depends what players are expecting: if it's to help in some basic industrial tasks, or basic automated defense, yes, there will be some - limited - possibilities. However, no AI self-replicating robots, no AI able to replace completely a player in a multiplayer crew ship.

We know this isn't much or new info for now, and we will try to update the topic as soon as possible.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Apologies for the delay of my online status. Before we delve into the fray by terminating the pledge button, curiousity has flooded my mind like a bunch of cane toads with a simple question. This question is for U.S. players only, I have no pending knowledge in kind regards to Europe's income tax policies, but that discussion is for another time and space.

What are you going to do with all of your income federal and state tax dollars?

My answer is already set in stone, I am going to spend a good portion on pledging. Why? Because I am not the only one who wants to play Dual Universe.

*Disclaimer, Do NOT tell anyone how much you earn or mention anything about income tax returns at anytime, that's your business only. If you do so, even if by accident. I request that the moderators to do what must be done. This is a Yes or No and why post. Please keep it clean and on topic.

    For example:
Q: Are you going to pledge with your income taxes?
A: Yes. Dual Universe is awesome and has potential.
A: No. Because I have something else planned for my
    money.

    That is all, thank you.
