  1. Would we befriend them or make them our mortal enemies? There may be battles in space, but never underestimate the wars below the surface.
  2. So to go down your list: How you win them in wars? You have to damage them enough to overtake them or hack them. The org who owns that tile is given a 24 hour buffer time from the start of the first attack to come online and defend their TU. If 24 hours passes, then the attacking org can re-attack and finish the job. Can you rent out smaller chunks? Theoretically yes you can. The TU gives the owner the ability to assign access to build on the land to anyone they want. This means that if you wanted to rent land from me, I would grant you access on my TU owned tile and then you could build. Is there an upkeep cost? Not particularly but they have to always have power. If they run out of power I believe you lose your territory until you regain power. There is no maintenance though. Can only orgs place them? No, not at all. Anyone can place a TU. When someone in an org places a TU, it doesn't grant access to the whole org, only the owner. From their they can grant access and I think an option is granting access to whole org and/or individual players. What will hacking a TU do? After hacking a TU, the defending org (owner of the TU) is given a 24 hour time frame to rebuild and defend. Because time doesnt stop when you log off, this gives everyone an equal chance to defend their TU when not online or else people would come online when an org is all offline and they would hack and take control of every TU and that wouldn't be very fair. Hope this answered all the questions well, let me know if it didn't.
  3. So what exactly are you curious about? After the meeting with JC, we have a very strong idea of what they will look like and how they will work.
  4. If we dig a deep enough hole and burry ourselves, we could survive anything and no one will know we are there. Less like cockroaches and more like moles
  5. I was thinking about elevators and imagine an elevator shaft from one floor to the next. Place a fuel source on the bottom of a round plate. On either side there are engines, so it would be a mini ship that could raise up and down. Place a controller and link 2 keys, one for up, and one for down. If done correctly, you could have a working elevator that can travel any vertical distance as long as it has power.
  6. After talking with JC, they are still refining the UI so we still don't have a defined look and feel to the UI but I imagine they will allow for the user to scale it
  7. Thanks for doing this, will help out a lot. I was hoping to go back and do it when I got back from the meeting but you beat me to it
  8. BruceWilly, so first of all I think you miss understood just a bit. Through Alpha and Beta, everything will keep resetting. The only thing we keep are our blueprints and our knowledge of game mechanics. Nothing in the skill tree will be kept. Also, Alpha and Beta will be a mix of goofing off and in depth testing of the game. When we receive alpha and can start playing the game, we want to test all of the game mechanics, this does include breaking the game but not in all aspects. We are going to want to test things like how ship building works and their physics when it comes to flying. We are going to be building large structures and mining away a lot of land to test land generation and detailed in game mechanics. Obviously I don't speak for everyone of this but the dedicated, core players will want to further the developers in solving problems they are having as well as testing new ideas they want to try out and see if we like them. Now don't get me wrong a lot of players, myself included and *cough cough* Twerkmotor will be trying to break the game because the logs will helps the devs but I don't think this will be a main focus for alpha because it will eventually reach a point of annoyance for the devs. A lot of great questions about R&D and this is definitely going to be a big aspect in the early stages of the game. Most of the focus will be developing stargates and core units/territory units I think. As the game progresses we will see new mechanics and new things to research surface further pushing the R&D aspect of the game. Each org will handle their R&D differently and depending on what they want to focus on (i.e. military, control, mining, trading, etc.) they will focus on that line of research to further themselves. This sort of observe and report may be something very small orgs do in order to further themselves based on the very large orgs but the large orgs will be heading R&D because it will be vital to growing fast, becoming wealthy, and expanding out into the universe. Unfortunately we won't know if our taxes are going to good use until Alpha and Beta release so we know the exact difficulty when it comes to building new technology but definitely count on a huge push towards R&D from big orgs. I know it was said already but welcome to the forums and I hope I answered all your questions and more.
  9. It would have to really add something to the game though. It would need to effect the player in some way. When the player is in a very cold environment, they need more armor or protection or else they slowly lose visibility from health issues and then maybe faint/die or become very slow then start losing health. Same goes for extreme heat. You would need armor or protection from the extreme heat and if you don't have the suitable protection, then your character's abilities start to temporarily degrade until you faint/die
  10. Exactly. Something like this can't be a thing and as the game progresses, I think trustworthy and un-trustworthy orgs will emerge who all claim to be able to safely transport your cargo from A to B. With this in mind, I believe there should be no insurance, no prepaying, and no support. You hire FedEx or UPS (American shipping companies) trusting them to deliver your package safely and properly. They have been around for so long that everyone knows you won't run into trouble with them and they are safe. This will transfer in game because it is up to the transporter to use resources to protect his/her vessels. If it costs you 100 Quanta to protect your ship and make it a safe transport, then charge 150 Quanta so you make money. Thats how it should be, the risk should be with the transporter because you are hiring them to do your job, if they fail, they don't get money for it.
  11. The dev diary examples are infinite so it shows as 999,999 but in-game it won't be anywhere near that. It will probably store in stacks with maximums for each stack, and I think they are factoring in weight too so you can't hold 1 million dirt and walk as fast as everyone else. For creating the "cubes" it will be voxels that really don't seem to have a defined size yet. We have asked about it, km, mm, m, but nothing too concrete yet. Resources will be used for building parts for ships and buildings, not decorating.
  12. Don't worry, the DU Radio team is still working on this and we can't wait until we go live. We have a couple more pieces to fix up and polish the edges and we will be done. Unfortunately, until the game releases their won't be much DU podcasts talking about in-game topics but we will release it for music, small podcasts, and possibly new interviews with NQ.
  13. This reminds me of the Hitch Hikers Guide To the Galaxy, Mark II, in "Mostly Harmless"
  14. Once the game releases and the lingo and phrases comes into play more, it will solve itself. But for the controversial topics, I guess we will have to find out and see how it all progresses
  15. NQ told us about how security will work. You will have your scripted defenses but if I recall you have to be online for them to be active. To claim your territory and place ownership to land and objects you place down a static core unit. When an org attacks your static core unit, the defending org will have 24 hours to repair and prepare for a defense. During this time, they can not attack you again which gives the defending org time to regroup. After 24 hours, the attacking org can attack again and then has no limitations. The defending org will have no warnings and no given time to defend. After 24 hours, it become a free for all and once they destroy the core unity, they can do whatever they want to the territory.
  16. This is a great idea and definitely something that will be useful in the game. I see something like this being designed around off-shore bank account style, no questions asked. Saying that I have a couple questions. Will it be a monthly, weekly, in game time, yearly, or one time payment. Will there be tiers of payment? (i.e. pay 200 get storage for 100 units and minimum security, pay 500 get 300 units and medium security). And lastly, is your name Unnamed Warehouse or are you trying to fill in the "Unnamed" part? Again good luck, should be cool when game releases. Cheers
  17. Good luck with getting a bunch of online strangers to agree to safe zones. The only safe zones not defined by NQ will be very large market places and resources the community as a whole define as very valuable. When you have a very valuable station or building or service, then everyone loses out if it gets attacked which will keep it mutually safe.
  18. This is coming along very well and based on what we have lined up, this is going to be amazing! Hope everyone is excited and we would love any feedback and/or ideas that the community has because this is built by the community for the community. Keep checking this thread because we will start teasing at the site as well as short broadcasts we do and maybe a couple secret specials as well Cheers
  19. Logo looks really cool Dark, the purple is very nice! Good luck to ya
  20. You would have to protect your stargates because you could definitely camp stargates and attack ships as they pass through. The big thing will probably be that stargates are expensive and very hard to build so only big orgs will own them for the most part. With big orgs owning the stargates, they will be defended and secured fairly well if the org has the man power. You can also send fighters through first to secure the other side, then send your transport ships or cargo ships through after.
  21. Thank goodness you are back. It has been chaos and havoc on this site. Ins are outs and outs are ins. We need you leadership All jokes here mate
  22. You can only burn my Spruce Goose if it fails. If not though, I will fight to the death protecting my Giant Space Wood
