Hades reacted to Oxyorum in Regarding kickstarter rewards.(as a patron supporter)
My understanding is that all of the kickstarter backer specific rewards (lifetime sub, etc.) will not be returning. The only packages that you can buy at this time are the supporter packages available on the website now. If you really want to support the game, you can buy all of the supporter packs instead of one. Hoping someone for Novaquark can give you a more official answer.

Assuming a wipe at beta/release all areas outside the newb base will be lawless until someone puts some law there and that law will only extend as far as people are wiling/able to control.

Over time  the area of lawless space will shrink (barring deliberate setting up of 'anything goes' regions by player groups and natural decay of ownerships) which will last until the devs extends the space again.

I don't see how it would be anything else?

    How it is:
    Patron = $180USD and €180Euro
    Euro to CAD €180 = $280CAD

    For reference:
    USD to CAD $180USD = $230CAD

    What the OP wants:
Patron = $180USD and €147Euro (to make both currencies equivalent)
    Euro to CAD €147 = $230CAD

Edit: Note, I'm not saying this is how it should be, because I don't know everything that goes into this, I'm simply clarifying what the OP is suggesting.

So in the end everyone agrees to safezones and protection bubbles. Which we know now for a year and a half?
Only 4 pages, we're getting better at least....
Don't really know that why some made a fuss about it then

I feel petty even bringing this up, as I assume you already know this.  But Dual Universe has 27,000 followers and Star Citizen has 2,000,000.   I think DU forums are rather busy considering the more focused reach.

(27,000/2,000,000)*100 is how many posts we need in the general chat to be on par with SC.  Which is 1.35 posts btw .  Seems there are 7 in the past day, which potentially means we are 7x more active than SC when scope is taken into account.

If there's anything this poll shows us, it's how much of a minority we (the forum users) are.  For how active the forums are, that's pretty interesting.  IMHO.

I imagine there are less than 70% with access to the pre-alpha.  Puts things in perspective I suppose.

All right, this topic is going to be locked.

Surprisingly all these "TheSlaxx" defenders are fresh new accounts.
Apparently some think it's okay to create accounts just to try to strongharm Novaquark's decision, even if this was already discussed and explained in private many times.
Making it public will NOT change Novaquark's decision. If someone opens another topic on TheSlaxx to try to change Novaquark's mind, expect your account to be banned permanently from the forum without further notice. We don't have time to waste on this topic anymore. This practice of coming back again and again on a decision made by Novaquark will only make the situation worse.

TheSlaxx hasn't been banned for the shady practices regarding the Organizations.
He has been banned for what he did after.
"He has changed now" will never be a valid argument to rehabilitate him.
If we make an exception for him, we will have to make exceptions for everyone else that has a toxic behavior.
    That's not gonna happen.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

No collision damage between dynamic constructs seems good for gameplay. But I'm a bit worried about how it will work together with lack of any structural integrity.
And I don't mean battleship getting stuck on thin antena - that could relatively easy to avoid by shooting it off.
I mean ship getting stuck at single voxel, one of many purposeful left floating around the base. Because AFAIK terrain voxels don't need any connection to the earth core to function.

So maybe very limited collision damage? Something like remove few (up to 100) voxels on each side at contact point, and apply large breaking force. Repeat no more often than 2 times per second. So it's not terribly useful as weapon, but at least can get rid of floating debris barrier.

Or simply make disconnected terrain dynamic, unless it contains X voxels.

BTW: "Voxel damage will come after the alpha" (3:00), right now it's shock-wave mechanics (so distance based) damaging only elements.

Hades reacted to Msoul in Linux crowdfund please
As an avid Linux user myself I figured I should chime in with my two cents on the topic. While it would be amazing to see Dual Universe have native Linux support I do agree that it should not be a top priority at the moment. I want DU to succeed and to me that is more important than getting all the features that I want implemented right away. There are core features that must be in the game for it to become the smash hit we want and Linux support is not one of those features its a bonus. Although you raise the argument that lack of this feature locks out part of the demographic I do not feel that is the case. Most Linux/Mac users acknowledge that their OS selection is limiting when it comes to playing games (slowly changing but still a long ways to go) and so many compromise with various alternative solutions like dual booting or emulation. I also fall into this category, personally I dislike windows but I simply liked DU much more so now its running on a dedicated windows SSD with nothing but dual universe and discord installed. Sure some might have extreme views and condemn the game for a lack of Linux support but this is a small number of people and I am willing to bet most will bend their ideals in order to play the game. I do hope that NQ tries their best to incorporate additional OS support in the future but I feel their target should be a quality working release first and then add in features afterwards. I like your idea of showing our desire for additional OS support financially but I still feel that all funds should go towards a strong foundation first. The main reason I feel this way is because history has shown that when devs delay their release to cram in more features it just makes the players unhappy and gives room for the competition to walk in with some other amazing game and steal the show. For now I think we should focus our efforts towards assisting alternative OS users with the conversion as much as possible. Speaking of which I keep hearing these rumors of players successfully getting DU to work with wine, if anyone happens to know where these geniuses are please get them to contact me, perhaps together we could create a guide or better yet a convenient package for running DU on Linux.

Hmm, I thought it was a wait and see on voxel destruction.  For the same reason they aren’t planning on implementing collisions.  Could be mistaken though

Someone linked you the right info already. If there are enough Supporters for it, they may be doing it.

I don't rly get the debate tbh. As standard everyday user it doesn't matter what you use, people will always use what's easily available and what they're used to. So what. No need for burning witches and No need for pointing fingers.

Spread the word in linux communities, Game forums or whatever and make them support Du. When those guys are interested and there are more and more ppl here who want Linux support, then they might do it.

It doesn't matter what YOU think is best for the game or how YOU would do it, NQ develops the game and they made their deciscion - If you don't run a Game dev company yourself then you don't know what Else they have to think about. It's really condescending to jump in here and say it would be best to just Dev it for linux because "Insert something".
NQ listens to it's community - get ppl together as i wrote and make them listen that way

They don't need to create a port, they just need to use systems and libraries that aren't locked to Windows.  But to be honest, the largest overhaul would be if they aren't using OpenGL at the moment.  The rest isn't "really bad".

I think the most important part is "So, if we can see a strong movement of the community in favor of Linux, it will significantly increase the chance of the game being released on Linux."

Seems to be a common topic that rears its head, so keep showing your support... and someday maybe

There shouldn’t be an arbitrary system in place to do most of this.  Safezones are enough on that front.

Oh I never meant to say BH is per se useless. I meant more in regards to Eve: it's more or less balanced (can't abuse it that easily as someone suggested) but noone really does it because it doesn't pay off.

That's why i hope NQ comes Up with a fun, engaging, rewarding and balanced system - and as such I think it can't be as simple as : Gib bounty, gib money

Welcome Equilibrium. A lot of people are also waiting for the alpha stage. Even the people in the pre-alpha are awaiting the alpha stage because then the NDA gets lifted which allows them to converse with more people. It brings a new perspective to what to what the pre-alpha testers see right now.

Anyways see you in the alpha stage

Bahahaha.  But pull out a gun and start shooting them, call for help, etc.  I think NQ also just recently commented on players being "locked" in a safezone area due to another player's build, they'd have an option to teleport to the arkship or something.  I'll see if I can go find it, I literally just read through it today :/

I also believe that gates should be dynamic. It makes the gates more...... dynamic.

I think they more or less talked about a unmanned probe which travels there and allows you to do a one-time jump. Ofc you first would have to build a gate on your side, then jump there and build the second gate on/near the new planet.

In some interview they talked about maybe introducing some kind of space drag so that people don't end up in the middle of nowhere - so travelling afk for weeks without logging in will not happen imho. Exploration should be a reward, not a reward for being afk or switching chars.

    1. Build a ship with resources to build the gate.
    2. Get on together with friend, direct it towards your destination and set it to constantly accelerate in straight line
    3. All of you switch characters to those who stayed in the known world, rest remain inactive while the ship fly using it's momentum
    4. In the middle of flight one of you wakes up and change from acceleration to deceleration
    5. After few days/weeks/months ship arrive, you wake up all those characters, build gate and open connection.

At least that's how I imagine those "probes". Expensive and hard to make, but NOT time wasting.
