    If those are your mmo killers, DU has nothing to worry about.  None of those are an end all be all MMO.  It would be the same competition as DU releasing now with BDO, Elite, blade and soul, TOS, etc.
     
    People lose attention after 2 years.  Having a publicity campaign right now isn’t really necessary.  And I imagine the community updates will continue

    I'm thinking when the game get's close to release, I'll bring it up on a small online forum I'm active one, and hopefully get a few people willing to try the game out, in a small group.
     
    I just don't see myself joining a large group, though, unless it's something like my small group acting as more of a corporation, and allying with a larger group for protection. Would something like that be possible?

    Originally I was extremely disappointed, and I still am as I would love to show DU off to some friends.  But you’re definitely right.  And the people they “lose” now can always come back at launch or further down the road.  
     
    Sometimes it’s good to take a long break from following development.  Heck I stopped following SC from 2.0 until 3.2.  Extremely satisfied with the progress made.  Now hopefully as I wait for 4.2 or whatever, even more will change.

    I have to say that i'm very disappointed about the NDA not being removed for the alphas. The entire year of 2019 aswell the rest of 2018 without getting any news, updates and gameplay content will probably hurt this project since this is an indie MMO initiative and those desperately need the constant public attention to build a stable playerbase and not lose it's momentum. Even i that contributed a little bit to the crowdfunding lost my interest after this forum went desert and the game footage became rare because of the NDA.
     
    This is an MMO and as such it's not usually the type of a game you can share with other projects from the same genre since it demands a lot of our time to be invested to achieve something and actually have some fun. The fear of players getting the "wrong impression" of the game from the alphas would probably be a better risk than going dark for one year and half and having players moving on to the next MMO in development, where we can actually see stuff happening. Unless the server still lags constantly and the PvP combat is completely underwhelming i don't see a reason to put the alphas inside a secure vault. Bad move in my opinion. But that's it, just my opinion. I hope i'm wrong.

    Are "neutrality orgs" really neutral? After looking at some of them they feel more like their own political faction rather then a group committed to neutrality. While it can be argued that not taking a side is taking a side in and of itself, the term "neutrality orgs" becomes a misnomer. Abother facor impacting the orgs in question is given the general community's stance on in-game unsanctioned hostilities, these orgs may be forced to become military alliances against their wishes.

    PvP will be like an Oklahoma Sooners land grab at the start. People claiming land, others not happy about it. Then after a bit we’ll realize that there’s plenty of room for all an then all we need to do is defend ourselves from the trolls.

    That makes sense.  I am a software developer irl so I understand the resource commitments that come with adding features to applications.  The contracting does sound pretty close to what I described with the quests.  I'm a big supporter of modding and user created content, so I believe the devs definitely have the right mindset.  Can't help but be psyched for this game!

    I think you jump to conclusions about people warmongering.  The game doesn’t revolve around PvP just like it doesn’t revolve around mining.  But all of those pillars create a game.  My main issue was you saying you believe NQ doesn’t consider it a main pillar... which seems rather strange since NQ has never indicated that.

    That's the thing though. All we know is:
    - ASA is a safezone with resources, only one for now in alioth
    - MSA is a whole moon without resources
    - UA with rare resources is FFA PvP
     
    From the dev video from last years gamescom we know that there are 12 or 16 planets in alpha (?) - plus or minus moons. How many ASA/MSA will be ingame isn't decided and won't be until late beta imho - but from the pov from now, UA will be prevalent.
    Maybe the whole alioth system will be a safezone - much like eve's highsec (though that's a bit different). But more planets will be discovered and NQ surely will look after all players

    Open combat was always going to be a thing, and what you think is a main pillar for the game has no standing.
     
    "Safe Zones will protect you, and avoid Dual Universe to become a free for all PvP game. However, PvP will be possible when you step out of the Safe Zone. Players will be able to fight each other, balancing their equipment and energy between shield and armor, with dedicated weapon type with different types of damage. We will provide a “lock & fire” mechanism to combat, to facilitate very large battles that are made possible in-game by our Continuous Single-Shard Cluster. Players can further specialize into certain weapons through skills and improve their combat prowess with better equipment."
     
    Combat had as much screen time in the original campaign as any other "main pillar" of the game.  And the comments by NQ stated that the plan was for CvC no matter what, even if the stretch goal wasn't met.  It just probably wouldn't make it to the initial release.  You don't need CvC for territory control, but it sure is nice.
     
    The rest of your comment I agree with.  Combat will be major, and one of the largest driving forces in the game.  It needs to be done right, with deep thought.  Combat is one of the few components that literally touches every aspect of the game in some manner.  You don't have to partake in combat to be influenced drastically by combat.

    DU isn’t just a paycheck for NQ, there is some real passion behind the game from these developers.  If there’s a way to save their game from closing, I imagine they will take it.
     
    I personally don’t think it will be an issue for quite some time, but that is all speculation.
     
    A game doesn’t always need a billion players behind it to remain afloat.  The DACs and potential cosmetics will help keep the game kicking, even if the player base is rather small.

    Maybe, who knows. If it's the last possible method to save the game. Maybe they don't do it and go another  Route. But for now it's subscription only.
     
    Planets and systems are procedually generated. Cities are built by players only. We fill this universe with stuff to do, Not the devs
     
    Only the highest pledge gets access to PreAlpha immediately and the locked Forum section (because the PreAlpha is under NDA). There are several tests per month.
     
    Ambitions are high and we'll see If it works or not. I believe in them because of their open communication (though other, non-musketeers might disagree here) and because of the things they say will NOT be possible.

    @Hades Maybe secondary isn't the right word, what I meant was that combat is directly tied to the core systems of the game. You can not have combat at all without those core systems.
     
    Player Combat: You can not do Player vs Player..... until Players have stats like Health. Also player stats are directly tied to skill progression. so with out the very basics of player stats implemented, there can be no player vs player combat.
     
    Vehicle Combat: You can not do damage to constructs.... until the voxel creation system is implemented. Damage is pretty much the same as removing voxels, also that data has to be stored so voxel constructs can be repaired/rebuilt. The whole construct vs construct combat is reliant on a voxel system being in place, without it, there is no voxel damage.
     
    That's the reason I referred to those systems as primary. The definition of Primary is quote: " earliest in time or order of development. ". Not saying combat is less important,  just that it has to come after those system because it directly tied to those systems, before it can be implemented.
     
    My Guess
    Is that construct vs construct will be implemented in Alpha 1... and player vs player combat in Alpha 2? Maybe?

    Nope and there never will be a single player creative mode. DU is a MMO.
     
    IF ANYTHING then NQ might implement some sort of creative Mode within the MMO universe, but that's still undecided and has to be thought through well imho

    A true gameplay loop would include a way to destroy those assets as well... but that's just me ;P
     
    I'm fine with combat waiting for later stages, I just don't consider the loop to be complete until then.  Semantics, I know.

    As far as I know they are not giving out any more ATV keys, the giveaways for those all occurred before the pre-alpha even opened. With it open now I highly doubt they will do another run of new ATV members. However, as I am only human, I could be totally wrong. Until someone corrects me otherwise we will just have to wait and see. . .
