Underhand Aerial reacted to DekkarTV in 0.25.8 HERMES UPDATE: Missions and more - Discussion thread
Okay NQ Idk what you were thinking with this mission system.

    1.  Missions are designed to help players bring "Content" to your game
    -Why limit it to 3?

    2. Missions aren't able to be posted by Orgs specifically and only viewable to orgs.
-Why can we not post as an org, some of us have jobs for different orgs?

    3. Mission creations are only available for 24 hours?
-This creates an ONLY TODAY mentality, in this game which is international and some players wake up 12 hours after the others, this time limit only further restricts our ability to do content.

    4.  50k mission creation cost- A new player can create 3 missions per day with the 150k we get for logging in.  However this cost further limits the game and removes quanta from the economy. (Like bots remove ore from the game)

TLDR:  - Mission limits to 3, 24 hours posting only = Another reason why we as players are restricted from bringing further content to DU.  If the goal of DU is for players to bring content, in my own opinion we should not be limited.  NQ says no NPCs planned for launch, yet the mission system is 99% NPC based. Players weren't thought of as being content generators with this implementation.

Suggestion: Drop mission costs to 15k and increase the mission posting to a limit of 10 per day minimum.  (Do this before talents for it get implemented)

New Suggestion: Do not allow org mates to vote on reputation, this is a direct exploitation of "good" standing as players can run multiple tiny free missions within org and show a 5 star rating, this is not a positive way of representing people in toxic groups, as they can just mitigate it with mission spam at 5 rating.  (we already see this in DU creators site where orgs mass +1 like their orgmates ship to push it to the top of the list.)

Looking to quench your thirst for quanta? Today we are launching update 0.25.8 "Hermes", which is codenamed after the messenger of the Greek gods, as a reference to the newly-introduced Mission System. "Hermes" marks the final phase of the 0.25 update and introduces three features that will fatten up your wallet in no time. The Mission System and Job Forum were the topics of this devblog. Challenges were mentioned in The Future of DU: Finding the Fun.

Hauling Missions - Your Alioth hostess with the mostess, Aphelia, or other players will request delivery of goods from Point A to Point B. You’ll be handsomely rewarded for successfully completing the mission. These missions adhere to a particular list of parameters that includes specific locations, time limits, and collateral.  The Job Forum -  Earn some cold, hard quanta by accepting freeform contracts from fellow players to perform a service, such as fuel deliveries or providing security.   Challenges -  This repeatable, solo-player activity takes place outside the persistent game world, making it a perfect opportunity for new players to get a feel for maneuvering a ship without compromising a “real” one. More experienced pilots will also find challenges fun and financially rewarding. Enter a designated VR surrogate station, complete the objectives, and watch your wallet swell with pride.
Note: Additional challenge types will be added over time.
Watch this video for a closer look.

Last but not least, you will notice some spiffy new VFX thanks to our integration of PopcornFX. We’ll reveal more about this in an upcoming article.

Full patch notes are conveniently available in the launcher so you can read them as you update the client, or they can be found here on the forum.

We cordially invite you to join the discussion where you share your feedback about the Hermes release.

Underhand Aerial reacted to Heartbeat1 in Hyperion/AC vs Boo at the Star Wars Event
    Hey everyone,
so the event was a few weeks ago but no one talks about what happend their.
At the moment when at every PVP Battle something wierd happens and an Member from Hyperion taken part of it, everyone says that Hyperion is using Cheats or Glitches.
Yes the two ships which takes part of this Battle uses Stacked Elements and Burried Elements, but both is allowed from NQ at the moment and thats really not the Problem.

After this Battle we dont know what happens, so we decided to do some research. We figured out one really big Problems that game has at the moment.
We have this Information a really long time but i dont know why my Leadership or NQ didnt put an offical Statement on the Forum or so.

    So what we figured out:
If your ship gets enough DMG from PVP fights your PC uses much ressources.
In this Fight the most AC members shoot with Railgun which makes good Damage but the Damage per Seconds are low. Both Hyperion ships shot with laser which has after Cannons the highest DPS.
Both Ships got 4 Seats of Laser which means per Ship 24 Lasers. At the moment Hyperion engaged the Boo Ships their getting so much damage in an shot time that their PCs are "Burning".
The pc off the Pilot is the "bottleneck" in this Part, on his PC the Ship gets calculated. But the biggest Issue in PVP fights at the moment where the Damage at the Voxels, at every shot your PC Downloads the "new Voxels" of your ship. The Boo Ship got a really big Part of Gold Voxel which creates microvoxels with every shot/damage so your PC Downloads really much Voxel changes.

We tested it and the Download is the biggest Problem in the actual PVP.
My PC in the Video got:
    i7-8700k(overclocked to 5.0Ghz), 32GB Ram, Readon RX 6800XT, Samsung 970Evo M2 and and 1Gbit Internet Connection.

    First test
11 Gunner, 50 Missiles, 4 Railguns to a Plate of Gold Voxels
Most shots missed, network spike 40Mbit/s, lowest FPS around 20

    Second Test:
8 Gunner, 48 Lasers to a Plate of Gold Voxels
Min of FPS: 2, Network spike to 254Mbit/s

    Third Test:
8 Gunner, 48 Lasers to a Plate of Iron Voxels
Min of FPS: 5, Network spike to 159Mbit/s

    Fourth Test:
    Ethernet Limited to 16MBit/s
8 Gunner, 48 Lasers to a Plate of Iron Voxels
Min of FPS: 5, it takes around 2 Minutes to load every Voxel Change.

You can watch these Results in the Video:

Underhand Aerial reacted to NQ-Deckard in DevBlog: Live Support Initiative
    Hello Noveans,

Over the past months, we have been working with the Support and Community teams to better identify the wants and needs of our players. These findings have sparked the initiative to implement a Live Support system to address some of the most common issues during peak times as well as address urgent tickets outside of office-hours. In addition, we’re adding some self-help tools that will enable you to resolve some of the most common issues without having to reach out to Support.

The changes described below will be included in the next update.

    NEW TOOLS
We are making it easier for players to help themselves in times of need. This is in the form of the following three features, one of which many of you will already be familiar with.

    Global Chats
To better organize and filter the chat within the game, we are implementing the following channels:
General - Joined by default and can not be left. Help - Joined by default and can be left. Trade - Can be joined and left.  You can interact with these channels by using the following commands in the text window:
/join - To join a channel, such as Trade, i.e. “/join Trade”. /help - Lists all available commands. To leave a channel, right-click on the channel tab. We know that global channels have been in high demand from our community, and we’re thankful for that feedback and the opportunity to see them implemented. Please continue to provide feedback about our chat system on our forums.

    Fetch
If you have a dynamic construct that’s become stuck, you can right mouse button-click on the construct from your map view and click to Fetch. This will teleport the construct towards you, allowing you to reach and interact with it normally.

We had hoped to be able to make this redundant; however we have seen that there is still a need for it. We are now intending to leave this feature available for the entire duration of beta, initially with these parameters:
Players can only fetch once per 24 hours. Maximum range has been limited to 4,000 meters. Players must be standing on a planet/moon’s surface.
    Unstuck
If you find yourself trapped and unable to resume your current play, you can now use /unstuck in chat to free yourself in a random direction. This feature has the following limitations:
You can use this command once per five minutes. This teleports you up to 100 meters in a random direction. Teleports can not move players into the building zone of any construct.
Please note that the Fetch and Unstuck features are intended to be used only to free stuck constructs and avatars. Any usage outside of this scope may be considered an exploit and actioned accordingly. The team will be continually monitoring the behaviour and results of these features, tweaking when and where needed to ensure that players are not abusing these systems designed to help players in need.

    LIVE SUPPORT
It is important to emphasize that the purpose of Live Support is not to cover all game knowledge questions and assistance scenarios, at least not in this first incarnation. We’ve noticed that many of our community members enjoy helping and teaching other players. We strongly encourage everyone to join our forums where players and organizations can offer further guidance and services to each other.

That being said, our Support staff will be monitoring the in-game Help channel for any issues that are eligible for assistance, to offer advice regarding knowledge resources, or to recommend when players should file a Support ticket.

Here is a sample of the assistance we may offer:
Assistance with the tutorial. Freeing stuck characters (if /unstuck does not work). Raising constructs from below the surface (if Fetch did not work). Fetching ships stuck in the sky above a planet (if Fetch did not work). Refreshing glitched elements.
Should you encounter one of these issues, give us a shout out with a description of your issue via @GM in the Help channel. Please allow at least 10 minutes for a response, after which you may choose to file a Support ticket instead. With the implementation of Live Support, we are expecting a significant improvement to response time for urgent inquiries.

We are very interested in hearing your feedback and your thoughts about these changes. Please join the discussion here.

    NEW UPDATE ON THE PTS!

The Dual Universe Public Test Server (PTS) is online once more! This time, you can take a look at content from the future 0.25 update.
More specifically, what we would like our players to test are the following features:
The new voxel storage tech. We proceeded to large, fundamental changes in how voxels are stored server-side, optimizing and improving player bandwidth usage going forward. To test this, it would greatly help us if players could wreak havoc on planets' soils and dig, dig, DIG as much as possible!  Three new tutorials are available in the "Tutorials" tab of the VR Station: Gunnery tutorial, RDMS tutorial, and Advanced Construction tutorial. Make sure to visit them during your journey!
On a side note, the Screen Unit tech change isn't on the PTS just yet. You'll be able to test that in an upcoming version!
You can tremendously help Novaquark by playing on the PTS. Not only will you have a chance to see content that’s in development before it’s released on the Live server, but you’ll also be helping to shape DU through sharing your insights and constructive criticism earlier in the development process. By testing on PTS and sharing your feedback, you will directly help improve DU.
On PTS, you have some perks to help you speed up your progress and have an easier time getting the things you need:
Dispensers that provide most items for free. A daily allowance of several billion quanta per day. Teleporters at the Market 1 of each major planet, allowing for free teleportation around the universe. For Alioth, the teleporter is located by the dispensers in the Institute District. Three additional teleportation platforms are deployed in space on the edge of the PvP zones Players can respec Talent points at-will.  The Fetch feature with no limit of range or cooldown.
Feedback and bug reports related to PTS should be posted in this designated forum, which we monitor closely as part of our commitment to improve the quality of the game and its performance.

Please note that PTS is solely for testing purposes and may go offline at any time without prior notice. We are doing our best to keep the PTS online as long as possible, but we cannot guarantee that it won't be taken down if we meet a major issue.
We’d also like to manage expectations that PTS updates may include feature prototypes and gameplay changes that might not ever come to the Live server. Moreover, there won't be any live Support on the PTS.

Underhand Aerial reacted to NQ-Deckard in Changes to Lua screen units
    Hello again Noveans!
We have heard your initial feedback on the screens and we want to elaborate on some of your major concerns.

Will this affect both screens and content written to the players screen (HUDs)?
No, this technological change will affect only screen units at this time.

Will all player created work on screens suddenly become non-functional?
No, this technology will be available side-by-side with the current technology, both first on the PTS in a prototype state, and eventually also on the Live server.
We strongly recommend everyone does test and experiment the new tech on the PTS, as your feedback and testing will help shape this feature.

How will this make a difference on performance?
The main reason being that the current implementation does not allow for much control over the performance impact of screen renderings. Complex 3D transformations using a combination of HTML, SVG and CSS has a significant impact on render times in the client. Adding to the fact that screens are often condensed with multiples of them in close proximity to each other, there is an increasing drop in performance on the client with more screens using the current technology. The new system allows for more precise control over rendering time allowed across screens and allows us to safeguard the level of performance impact the screens have on the client.

So you will be removing HTML support entirely?
Not necessarily, the two techs will run side by side for an as of yet undefined period of time. Eventually we may introduce a phase where we make the rendering of HTML on screens an option for players along with a warning that it can significantly degrade client performance. Players with that option disabled will simply not see any HTML content and not suffer performance degradation because of it.

Why not improve the current HTML implementation instead of the new technology?
This is a complex topic, HTML/CSS/Javascript is a group that forms a UI technology. For reasons beyond the scope of this topic we do not allow the use of Javascript inside the screen units. When you remove Javascript, the group effectively becomes a not so efficient vector image drawing technology which we have very little control over in terms of rendering. We have previously implemented a lot of small limitations here and there to reduce the impact of the screens, but there are (and likely always will be) edge cases which will eventually crop up using that technology. As such, the new technology has built-in limitations on how taxing a screen unit can be, and if a screen unit goes over the limit it will simply stop drawing. This is why we ask you all to go and test this, and help us find caveats and where you run into things you can and can’t do.

What about bandwidth? Are you doing this to reduce data transfer for screens?
The current implementation does not address this, the current implementation is a way for us to collect your feedback on this concept. Eventually we may change the way data transfer for screens is handled, where we may increase the size of the defined “template” inside a screen unit itself. Followed by a lower limit on the amount of data transferred to the screen from external sources. Allowing the screen element to do the rendering and drawing work, using parameters fed to it by a control unit.
For example: You would draw the design of a fancy instrument panel using the screen element, and a programming board or control unit just sends the values for all the instruments to the screen. This is currently not in the current implementation however, but may give you a better idea of why this technology has a lot of potential for more intricate and powerful designs.

What about artists who draw using external programs and import their SVG’s into the game?
One of our hopes is to provide a good enough set of commands in the screens API so that our system can express most SVG graphics converted to these commands through for example a small conversion tool. It is unlikely that we will develop and maintain a conversion tool for this, but this is also why we want your feedback on this new API for you to let us know what commands you really want to see included to make this process easier.

We sincerely hope that this answers many of your initial questions and concerns.
I personally can’t wait to see what you will all come up with in your designs!

Yes and no.. The 'vision' was why they had a successful kickstarter and initial VC rounds. The inability to turn the vision into reality, and then finally subverting the vision in later patches was what made people leave the game. So new management could still try to make DU using the original vision, but this time with sensible priorities and dev methods.

An increasing number of DU players are reporting that they can't play anymore due to an issue causing DU to crash during loading on a Shadow PC.

The game will crash at the exact same point every time, for most it seems to be around the 70% mark but I have seen reports of different numbers.

If you encounter this issue, please do log a ticket with  Novaquark and provide the logs found in %localappdata%/NQ/DualUniverse
Make sure you let the reporting tool finish after the crash and do fill out details there, such as to what percentage you load in Zip the folders "CrashDumps", "crashes" and "log" (as applicable/available) and attach to the ticket you open with Novaquark. hit [WINDOWS] R and type "dxdiag" .. save the logfile created in the tool and add to the ticket
Also log a support ticket with Shadow , the CrashDump file(s) and dxdiag logs may be of use to them, the logfiles for DU obviously not.

As we're seeing quite a few reports of players having this issue and many depend on a Shadow PC to play, it would be nice if @NQ-Naerais or @NQ-Deckard could provide somewhat regular updates on this issue here.

There was a very recent fight between AC and Boo, 12v3 or thereabouts. This is a non-exhaustive list of parties involved:

Boo (Blitz, HVC) AC (Atom, Hyperion)
What follows is a description of very interesting proceedings regarding the appearance of Hyperion on the battle field
Blitz is within 2SU of Hyperion Blitz is NOT engaging Hyperion ships, Hyperion ships are not targeting Blitz ship. Blitz is engaging  AC/Atom ships HVC reports that they are getting very bad performance fighting Hyperion (severe FPS drops down to 1 fps, gunners unable to lock targets, guns not shooting) Blitz joins Hyperion fight, Hyperion targets Blitz ship, Blitz ship starts to experience very bad performance (severe FPS drops down to 1 fps, gunners unable to lock targets, guns not shooting, engines not responding to any input), severe constant spike in pc resource usage (A Blitz member has a 256 GB of ram and 64 cores , ALL OF IT was maxed out). Blitz reports about 10 minutes of being a sitting duck unable to do anything at all, not even shoot. AC ships take off a lot of gold armor, little amounts of elements are damaged. Blitz ship floats away, all ships disengage it (Ship is going about 23,000km/h), except about 2 AC ships who tried to follow (likely desync issues?)
Several key aspects to what happened in the fight:
Severe and constant drop in performance was noted when Hyperion was engaging Boo ships. Atom/AC ships engaging Boo ships did not cause any drops in performance. Performance drop metrics include maxed out usage of CPU and RAM, extremely low FPS (literal slideshow, gunners not able to lock or fire weapons, engines not responding to pilot input Drop in performance was consistent, meaning that performance was low throughout the duration of Hyperion ships engaging Boo ships From what I can gather, AC/Atom ships were not experiencing the drop in performance described here On Boo side, at the time of Hyperion engagement, ALL personnel suffered the same constant drop in performance and maximum resource usage, including gunners, engineers, and pilots
There are at least 2 theories about why Hyperion ships engaging Boo ships would cause such massive and consistent drop in performance:
Hyperion ships are using exploits, be it Lua related or in some other form Single Shard Server errors: due to the nature of ISPs in Germany (most of Hyperion consists of German players) and the single shard server clusters, there is severe latency / connection errors / server timeouts that would cause consistent performance drops when engaging players that are from Germany
Here is what is known as key supplements to this discussion:
There are several DU players who are in possession of the source code to the game The last event (Namely the Star Wars event Boo crashed) exhibiting the same problems at the very end of the event when Hyperion joined in the fight, Boo ships were experiencing severe fps drops with maxed out CPU and RAM usage. From my understanding this was not happening to Atom / AC ships involved. In this particular case only Hyperion ships and Boo ships were on the field engaging each other Other Boo crews reported similar unreasonable resource usage while engaging Hyperion ships
Something to make clear, this is very much an isolated incident. Yes there is a bug where if you have 4 gunners one always misses, in this case no gunner could even lock let alone fire. To my knowledge this particular consistent drop in performance has only happened twice, in both cases Hyperion was on the field engaging Boo.

Aforementioned Boo member with 64 cores and 256GB of RAM is currently running diagnostics to see if anything was fried.

    What do you think?

I think its quite the opposite.
You, without any prof and dispite the entire history of players reporting major bugs related pvp, are trying to acuse an entire org of bug exploit.

Are there other possible reasons for this kind of issue to happen? Yes. Most of the ppl in that org are germans. Could their location, language, lag, frontend server they connect be related to this? Yes.

But yet, you chose to acuse them....
    In a beta(alpha).

And when someone says "shit happens" you say he is a "fanboy" ?

What happened to that spirit you guys have when taking down defenseless freighters? Do you care if their ships are bugged?
Did you ever stopped your looting because "that guy's game probably bugged"???

Lets say that Hyperion, just for the sake of the argument. According to you(based on parenting bug exploit) for them to have any consequence, NQ need to explicitly say what kind of bug was used and give them a clear warning to not use that bug. And even after that, if that warning is placed in a sub forum, they have the excuse to say "we cant clearly find the warning".

So, how about you STFU until you have any evidence. And just open support tickets reporting the situation...

Underhand Aerial reacted to NQ-Naunet in DevBlog: Biomes Improvements and New Voxel Features
    Hello Noveans,

The upcoming 0.24 Update includes a plethora of enhancements to elevate the look and playability of Dual Universe. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at two of these: biomes improvements and new voxel features.

    BIOMES IMPROVEMENTS

In this first phase of a significant, ongoing graphics update, we are improving the biomes of our planets to make them more visually diversified. Combining Speedtree, a procedural generation software, with the Quixel Megascans assets library for the textures and meshes, we now have many new tree models!

The Quixel Megascans library also provided many new rock models, which our artist team has then reworked.

Moreover, to achieve maximum realism, our ground textures now utilize scans of authentic terrestrial soils. In addition, we have improved the rendering to increase the textures’ visual quality and performances even further.

Rendered models from our Engine Editor.

These new rock assets will replace all the previous ones and add variety to the environments.

We have a new night lighting! To offer a better visual by nighttime, the tree models have been calibrated in order to fit the new night lighting.

All tree and rock assets are placed in the game world using procedural generation spawning.

These scans ground textures are the materials from Quixel Megascans used to replace previous ground textures.

    NEW VOXEL FEATURES

One of the most compelling aspects of Dual Universe is its fully editable world. Through the art of manipulating voxel structures known as voxelmancy, the possibilities for channeling your creativity are endless. Our goal is to provide the players with as many tools as possible to edit voxel shapes, and we want these tools to be user-friendly and efficient.

The suite of voxel tool shapes is now even sweeter with the addition of the cone shape. Using it is similar to making cylinders. Use the mousewheel to increase the size of the base, and drag up or down to increase or decrease the height.

The new line tool allows you to select an area using any of the available voxel shapes and then hit the Alt key to delete them. Hopefully, you will now find it less tedious to remove voxels than with the previous system!

    SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS

Are you looking forward to being surrounded by the luscious new sights and textures of the graphics update? How will the new voxel tools compliment your constructs? Let us know in this discussion thread. ?

Underhand Aerial got a reaction from Daphne Jones in There are Still ways to Hijack Ships from Territorys
Parenting Ships - Dragged to PVP Space: This is a hot topic and one we wish to be very clear on. Intentionally parenting any construct without permission of the owner is not intended for game play. A fix has been rolled out that will address the ability to parent constructs together via the maneuver tool. As we have not previously clarified this point, we will not retroactively punish this abuse, as of this moment forward abusing similar bugs/tools to replicate this maneuver in its current state can result in disciplinary actions on an account. [Not Allowed]

I hope NQ will punish them this time!

Underhand Aerial reacted to NQ-Naunet in Support tickets .. and counting...
Don't post chatlogs, c'mon guys. I'm not going to go full moderator here, so please just heed my friendly warning.

Also, this post I made a while back might be relevant to this situation so we're all clear on who provides what kind of support/where:

    TL;DR -
Community Helpers = volunteer players who pitch in to lend support where needed in the community.  Moderators = volunteer players who assist others and enforce the rules on Discord and here in the forums. GMs = employees who provide in-game support, but who are limited in doing so; their role is to direct players to the proper resources as needed. They pass information up to the CMs and help us provide more round-the-clock community coverage. CS = employees who officially respond to support tickets.  CMs = employees (like myself) who serve as the main messengers that carry information between players and the rest of the development team, and vice versa. (Similar to a GM). We also handle the running of contests, official announcements and general community engagement. Unlike GMs, CMs do not appear in-game to provide support.
