The third image is interesting
Especially :
ESC for leave ship
Oula
Euh
I suggest politely, but insistently, to change this key.
Otherwise we have not finished counting the accidental ejections of his ship.

TheAtlasWarrior reacted to Miamato in Rails system
we are in future, trains won't need wheels anymore. It can be smth like magnetic rails, the general idea is not how it looks like, but how it works. Some sci-fi rail system would feet much better into DU setting.
Imagine fully automated trains that can transfer people from one side of the planet to another, especially if they will work like hyperloop or have optional rocket engines installed
But the main usecase for me is - creation of interactive moving parts of your ship/base. For example with proper design you can create base or carrier ship hangars that expand themself if someone needs to dock or become smaller when noone is inside. If even more active blocks would be added - like circle or 90* rotating planforms, etc.
-
TheAtlasWarrior reacted to Miamato in Rails system
The idea is to have rail system in the game. As wheels are hard to implement because of movement and collision physics, can we have ability to create straight rails. This will open a lot of great new options.
1) If you can build rails inside your base or big ship - this makes possible to create moving platforms that would work like elevators. For example you have a large carrier ship filled with many smaller ships. You can make main hangar for landing and once you need one of your ships, it's delivered by such elevator to your landing zone by elevator.
2) You can create hiding turrets, so building a large ship at first glance it would look like a transport one, but when you encounter some enemy - you can show your weapons.
3) Train system inside a large city or ship, that may work like public transport when it's not enough space for everyone to fly on their ships.
4) Underground mining platforms. Principle would be the same as for vehicles that build tunnels for underground (metro) in real world - you have some custom build vehicle that moves only on rails, each time you dig enough, you need to build more rails to proceed. This allows to create accurate tunnels or caves.
I think people will create many other cases where such things can be used.

TheAtlasWarrior got a reaction from Mortalpath in Democratic Organizations
well, the org I'm about to tell you of is not a government per se, but it is more of a collective of organizations that plan to bring trade to everyone, & at the same time promote peace and cooperation with each other and the community as a whole. They are democratic and neutral, the name of the org is the Intergalactic Trade Federation. The leaders are Kitty Khatt and MinerMax555, do you want a link to their Discord server?

meh ... I'm with @Haunty ... Let them focus on the good stuff instead of pandering to our impatience

TheAtlasWarrior reacted to Bitmouse in Construct Creator for Blueprint Design
An in game Construct Creator would give designers the capacity to efficiently build, test, and iterate designs. This could be done in a way that utilizes current technology slated for development in the game.
One method would be to use reformat-able zones. Players would spawn into these zones with a tool set similar to what is being implemented in pre-alpha. After the play session the zone is formatted.

TheAtlasWarrior got a reaction from ATMLVE in So.. How did it go this weekend
2 questions, first, what times will the servers be up for Alpha testing? (in US EST time) and 2nd, why does it say "Redacted" in the middle of the sentences of some of the replies in this thread?

depends what you define as better. The EVE system is fairer to those with less time than one in which you have to grind the skills up

I prefer real time skill training. I hate having to use items or build things I don't need just for the sake of getting to the next level.

TheAtlasWarrior reacted to SlendyMcTendies in SlendyMcTendies & Blackheart Inc
Hello Dual Universe! I am SlendyMcTendies!
I absolutely love Sci-Fi games and enjoy close to anything having to do with space, exploration, and a massive map to do whatever I want in, which is why Dual Universe seems to be a perfect fit for me.
I have created an Organization known as Blackheart Inc for DU. It's difficult to fully flesh out a description of what this organization will be aiming for since I am currently unaware of the specifics of DU's gameplay elements. However, I am more than willing to learn among the already large (and still growing) community.
I also plan on streaming DU when the early access opens on September 30 whenever we are officially clear to stream/record! If you are interested in following along with my adventures in DU, or if you'd like to stop by and say hi before then, you'll be able to find me at: twitch.tv/slendymctendies as well as on Twitter @SlendyMcTendies
If you have anything I think I should know, questions about myself or Blackheart Inc, please share and/or ask! I am more than happy to tell you more about myself or answer any questions!
EDIT: I get it guys an NDA is very likely.

(Membership approval on our Organization Website requires membership of the organization)

TheAtlasWarrior reacted to Morand in Tree harvesting
We saw beautiful forests. We saw ground mining. But we didn't see tree harvesting, and as we know, it should be on the alpha.
So, I have some questions regarding trees:
1. Are trees made out of voxels like the ground, or like elements, or something else?
2. When a player harvest a tree, is it done like mining? Does all the tree disapear or just one chunk?
3. If only one chunk disapear, how to reach the top of the tree? Does the top fall to the ground or stay like a mountain?
These questions may look weird, but I may have some ideas depending on the answer.

TheAtlasWarrior reacted to Stig92 in Research through discovery.
I don't remember seeing any material on how higher level technology is researched/unlocked, if there is any research process beyond having right resources and production facilities.
If there is a research process to discover new tech (which should then be possible to sell, maybe to license, to others.) I would suggest that research shouldn't be something that you can do simply sitting somewhere running research on fixed tech tree. Many technologies after all depend on our understanding of universe beyond what you can imagine from armchair.
Einstein came up with theory of relativity partially in that way, but to prove it people needed to observe solar eclipse and make measurements of starts. Nowadays for example GPS system relies on Einsteins work to operate properly.
Similarly the process of gaining more advanced technology in Dual Universe should at least include the need to go out at explore things to do research or open new lines of research. Perhaps scanning a certain type of star long/often enough reveals some process that opens research line that leads to more efficient fusion reactor, or flat bonus in existing elements.
This type of game play element would open a new aspect of a game where people could go out to explore not just to find new planets but also to do research. It could make dedicated research ships or -stations possible. Running enough of these to research anything valuable would need quite a bit of time and effort, especially after most basic tech, so there would be new incentive to work together in organisations. Sufficient challenge on researching anything would also be necessary if it is to be long term element on the game since eventually people will research everything in the game if more tech isn't added in expansions faster than players research it. That is the largest problem i see with technological advancement in MMO game.
The discovery of technology could also have random, or at least unknown element to it like the game Stellaris seems to have.
