ATMLVE got a reaction from TheBlender in I have one HUGE concern.
While out of context this statement is a good one, we're talking about trolling and I think it's a bad idea to make that a bannable offense. The game is shaped and built by the players. Players that want to destroy for fun can do that, it shouldn't be against the rules; it should be up us, the players, to police that.

If you build a house on a hill then log off for a week, it's should be a no brainer that when you get back your house will have been ransacked.

I can see though how there might be some doubts though, like how civilization will work around the Arkship when no one has a TCU yet. That, I don't know...

I suppose you think you will be doing something else in DU for most of the time? Or do you think your ships magically get replenished after every time a pirate explodes you?

EVE is a social experience, if you play it like WoW, expecting "log in, queue up for battleground, kick peoples' shins in PVP, get free loot", then you of course won't like them. Mining Ops is when people get to chill and talk about stuff - you know, social things, it's an MMO. I'm getting the vibes you are not one to do those in games, so, time to dust off he social skills playbook.

Mining Ops in EVE also happen so the corp's industry division can keep the miltiary division supplied. You call that "grind", others call it "teamwork". If you don't like Teamwork, you won't like it in DU either.

So you've heard lots of good, and you want to know all the bad? I can respect that.

The game is meant to be a huge scale sci fi single shard mmo. This means the game will be running constantly, and everyone is playing in the same game. Since nothing is perfect, this will obviously have limitations. You're right about limtations on automated weapons, and mining can only be done manually by the players.

There are some other drawbacks too. Planets will most likely never move from their point in space (though they may rotate about their own axis), at least not for a while. Certainly not in the alpha. Constructs do not deform and destroy each other in spectacular fashion like they do in games like space engineers. And constructs themselves cannot be broken in two; if I make the Enterprise, and you completely destroy the parts connecting the main body to the saucer and two nacelles, the ship will still fly as a single entitiy as though there is a rigid connection, when none exists. And it is pure speculation, but the graphics will likely never compare to a game like star citizen, at least not for years. It's just not the focus.

That being said, I can tell you though that the fun potential far outweighs the drawbacks. The game will have tons of features and so many ways to do so many things to adapt to so many playstyles. Just watch the devdiaries, these developers are transparent, pasionate, driven, and most importantly... They are capable. They don't try and sell you concepts or ideas. They show you what they have and even let you play it, if you can make it to one of their meetups.

I can tell you another drawback about this game: starting later. The game will be huge, and difficult to get into and understand. Right now, we're all on the same page. A year from now, it won't be out still, but any newcomers will be at a disadvantage. And a year after release... Well. All I can say is I hope I can be a part of shaping the game around the Arkship, and being a part of a start of the new civilzation. Those who join late will find that much harder to be a part of.

So as for the intial drawbacks I mentioned, yes they are unfortunate, but I feel that the features and mechanics taking their place far outweigh them. And as for that last drawback I mentioned... Well, there's a solution to that one, and I think you know what that solution is.

    Hello,
I am a casual gamer who loves sandbox style games. I've been a hardcore Minecraft fan since the beginning also pre-alpha and I always will love the game for what it has done to this industry, and unfortunately it's starting to run dry for me. I'm also a huge fan of EVE... well the concept of EVE. I love reading up on the game and hearing stories from veterans during the BoB wars. I wanna be apart of that, except leading a fleet of my own imagination and devastation. This game promises that... it's an excitement I haven't had since I was a child.
I want to be apart of the testing, helping this game grow. The only issue is that I just feel weird about investing my money in the game this early... but I want to. I'm really hesitant because I don't know what the player can't do. I've caught a few on the videos, like auto locking due to update frequencies, and no mining drones (really sad about that, but your reasoning was well justified... I was thinking of monopoly too), and no planet destroying superweapons, Totally fair. You mentioned fairness What rules do you have set out to maintain "fairness"? What can't I do because of technical limitations and what cant you do?
Those questions are the only thing that is keeping me from pledging. They're the questions that kept me from No Man's Sky and I want to be able to trust this game.
    Thanks,
           Frazz

    Hi and welcome,

If you don't pay the sub your account is suspended, your progress so far is saved but your character naturally don't get any more skills. If you continue your sub 6months later, you continue from where you left.

Sounds like you got the same ideas as me! I'm looking forward most to scripting, and building stuff that utilizes the scripts.

Also, regarding that tweet, that's for the alpha. Technically, what is coming out on September 30th is the pre-alpha, so that tweet no longer applies. The alpha was delayed to a later date, but NQ still wanted to give us a game to play because they're awesome.

Hello Dual Universe! I am SlendyMcTendies!

I absolutely love Sci-Fi games and enjoy close to anything having to do with space, exploration, and a massive map to do whatever I want in, which is why Dual Universe seems to be a perfect fit for me.

I have created an Organization known as Blackheart Inc for DU. It's difficult to fully flesh out a description of what this organization will be aiming for since I am currently unaware of the specifics of DU's gameplay elements. However, I am more than willing to learn among the already large (and still growing) community.

I also plan on streaming DU when the early access opens on September 30 whenever we are officially clear to stream/record! If you are interested in following along with my adventures in DU, or if you'd like to stop by and say hi before then, you'll be able to find me at: twitch.tv/slendymctendies as well as on Twitter @SlendyMcTendies

If you have anything I think I should know, questions about myself or Blackheart Inc, please share and/or ask! I am more than happy to tell you more about myself or answer any questions!

EDIT: I get it guys an NDA is very likely.

Really happy to see the cool new UI, I played the old one at Gamescom. While it was usable, the keybindings and the readability weren't that good. But the old UI was just a placeholder. The new UI seems to be way better.
Also the new Textures look very nice.
Some of the new Elements are really great. For example having a bigger bar at the bottom of the screen unit makes it way more easier to align it. Wasn't easy with the current one. Also the new lights look very promising.
NQ is really exceeding my expectations on DU ? Very good job NQ ?

Ha I thought the same thing! I was like, it would be awesome for there to be a practical use for searchlights in the forest. I was imaging scenarios.

I'm curious about the material textures; does each material have its own texture, or can you apply a set of given textures to any material?

And also, 20m screen... Billboards, just like everyone wanted!

This is all pretty gruesome. But it's a game, nothing wrong with that!

These are neat ideas, and would add depth and interest; I always wanted to do this in Spore. However, there are multiple fundamentals about this game that conflict with these ideas, so I feel they will never implement something like what you're saying.

There won't be NPCs, due to the fact that the game is supposed to be based around player interactions. There also aren't supposed to be automated ways of doing certain things... Pretty much anything you could use primitive NPC slaves for is stuff that is supposed to be done manually by players. On top of that, programming NPC AI, actions, and infrastructure would take up a bunch of development time.

Hm... Do you mean you want to see your work explode in a good way, as in see it become more popular and useful very fast, or you want to literally watch the things that you create for other people detonate? If you're looking for work, you should make that distinction clear...

For where other projectiles see, I see as a banker usable material and material is equal to Quantas.

the lore behind the alpha and beta to explain the wipes is this......we are still on the arkship and we are in a VR simulation while in our cyropods.  Alpha might even have weekly wipes. This isn't an early access game. This is also a single shard persistent world we will be living in. To not have wipes would cause so many issues. So while it might seem annoying that you might "lose" your creations you shouldn't go in to a test phase thinking what you are doing will be in the final game. Even how the game plays is up for change in a full release.

It's also not just about taking the good from the good games, but also leaving the bad. I made a topic about this a long time ago; survivorship bias can be dangerous.

I know JC and his team are smart, and I trust they'll do what's best. Their development is proceeding well, and since we'll be playing the alpha we can help to shape the mechanics. This is something I think the developers really want to do, which is a fantastic way to make a game. I too applaud Novaquark!
