JNDuval reacted to Dorlas in Ship Class naming standards?
I think all organization (the big ones) will end up naming their ships just as they want. Still, I doubt we will end up with 500 meters long corvette class made by some huge company focusing on producing military craft, because the classic naming style will be there (corvette will always be small ship, battlecruiser will always be huge).

I also doubt that overall, there will be many ships that end up being mass-produced and available to civillian population. Many players will prefer building their own ships and only the best constructs will end up being mass-produced (simply because nobody will buy the ordinary ships...why spend lot of money to buy something which you could build cheaper for yourself and customize it as you become more experienced). Most of these will also be civillian ships, so the classic naming system for various classes simply cannot apply, even if they may have weapons. And these mass-produced ships will mostly be designed by those organizations which aim to do such things and therefore we can expect there will end up being (at least partially) unified naming system for classes.

Although, there is bound to be someone who names his ship Steven-class marshmallow.

Blueprint should have the name of their original creator, that way you can know if you are buying legit or if it's scam. I can definitely see some people trying to recreate designs that are popular in the Verse to sell them to unsuspecting players. More experienced players will know not to trust some rando trying to sell them something fishy without investigating it first.

If the original creator wants to deal with a thief they can just hire people with big guns to go and deal with it.

I'd love to see things like this. Some alien menace or even NPC slavery.

However,  due to the reasons mentioned above, we will likely never see this. Or not any time soon, at the very least.

Pfft everyone knows the world is a flat disc balanced on the backs of four elephants who are, in turn, standing on the back of a sea turtle flying through space.

C'mon that's basic knowledge  Death himself said it so it must be true ....

Just imagine shooting one at an enemy ship and taking a free-ride.

Would be funny to have a eco-terrorist player faction that goes around attacking people who strip mine or don't restore the planet to relative beauty after use

That would make the most sense.

But I think more of a VR like room would work best. So no planets just a VR room which allows you to simulate things like pressure and gravity. Stuff like that.

I would definitely like to see some kind of AI enemy that shares the universe with us. The "AIs" could be player designed ships or bases that have been abandoned for a long period of time driving the ship's AI to malfunction with catastrophic consequences. They would be hostile to everything organic and squishy so it gives the players that want to be moral a way to experience combat and boarding without needing to harm other players. Eventually there could even be fleets of these ship traveling through the universe like some kind of cosmic natural disaster to anyone that can't properly defend themselves. To stop this force of nature a military Org with sufficient firepower could be hired to deal with them, in other words a Raid created by players and destroyed by players. The frequency of these raids will be rare due to the method in which they are created, but if this process is too slow the Devs could implement the ability for AIs to capture the ships of their fallen enemies.

I know the Machine vs Creator card isn't the most original concept in Sci-fi, but I really think that this could be a good fit i Dual Universe since it would all be player-made, it gives purpose to an Org's military that isn't the small threat of pirate attacks or the full-scale Org v Org war.

OR, the good ol' proximity based spawn, with the aforementioned "Elite" creep that as long as it's alive, more of its type but less in rank, spawn around it. I.E. an Alpha Wolf - or a Wolfmother - keeps spawning more wolves periodically around it until killed.

The only way that a planet should be "purged" would be to simply cover a planet with claims, which it would mean there won't be spanws inside players' claims - mind you, spawns, not that animals could not attack the claim itself.

Safety is relative. Build a wall - and make the alien fauna pay for it - and your peeps cwould be safe.

Oh, what's that? People outside the wall are not safe? Welp, that's a bummer then.

The people you should be worried about, not the silly NPC bots. People can orbitally strike your cities to a subatomic pulp, not wolves.

Plus, one thing I've learned in EVE, is that High-Security people love themselves some PVE. What? Rich Aristocrats should be able to go fox-hunting in their back yard mate. Or... w/e nightmarish creature NQ conjures that can be hunted

Predators don't care. Have you seen a honeybadger backing from a fight? Nope. Honeybadgers give no shit, they will bite your ankles off.

We need space-honeybadgers to cull the meek in DU

I have no issue with hunting bears, of any kind, grizzly, polar or care ones.

Thing is, as long as the PvE "Grinding" doesn't become a part of the game, I am all in for organic ways of using PvE, like hunting, or - hopefully down the line - pelt and leather gathering from animals, for the RP part of the community that likes itself some nice fur.

Also, having to clean a mining site from some spider Cronenberg-fuelled nightmarish spawn of satan and cthulu, is a good PvE thng. Having the spawn sites have Little Green Men with lazors, is stupid though.

And, instead of a Spawn Block, there could be a "Queen" for example, in the case of spiders, or an Alpha, when it comes to predatory fauna. Kil lthese "bosses" for some rare posion / fur or even plainly speaking a "Trophy" that you can craft a "Trophy Mount for a Wall" element in the game for bragging rights.

This way, explorers can locate the spawn of a "boss" mob, so people can mobilise to hunt them down, Monster Hunter style, similar to how in EVE, we can sell the location of a PVE combat site to people - a legit way to make money.

Mmmmm, thinking of mounting a Deatclaw's unholy mug on your wall? That's what I am thinking right now.

But not Green Men that are loot pinyatas, or Spiders that drop laser rifles and power armor pieces. That's a BAD PvE trope that it's time to take it out the back and... erm, send it in a farm with all the other tropes, like turn-based combat.
