Indeed, even empyrion and Space engeneers has a form of AvA that, although not my style, seems to be working for some. I normally just shoot people with my ships, preferably with large missiles.
As said before, we are nowhere near what should be in a game like DU (google kickstart DU). We now get landmark in space, well with respect to landmark this probably wont last much longer is promises are not kept.

@Elitez you are the one that seems unable to handle peoples feedback if it does not align with you viewpoints. sometimes the truth hurt but it must be said, questioning peoples right to be here is bonkers and very negative.

I think it would be interesting if weapon types did different base damage against shields then voxels. So for instance lasers would do amazing dmg against shields. But then do piss poor vs voxels and elements.  You could still core a ship with only lasers but if they had any decent or even minimal voxel protection it would take a lot to kill. Maybe even a ship could get a vent off.  Same thing reverse with cannons. Very low shield dps, but crazy insane voxel dps.  Once shields go down if someone puts cannons on you in range you might be toast, even with decent voxel protection.  Stuff of that nature would mean rounding out your fleets more. And how you focus targets would matter, etc.

Sad, maybe they'd actually have people excited for this game if they had AvA at least.

So far my patience has been rewarded by everything I ever did in the persistent world getting deleted.  And it does not appear that NQ have learned from past mistakes.  I think they will just mess it up again and end up with another broken sandbox.

I think I might have run out of patience now.

It's a copy of some of the things Eve does without fully understanding why eve works.  It reminds me of the people who tried to fly by strapping feathery bird wings onto their arms and jumping off stuff.

I think they're scared of people playing the game without really being interested in quanta (presumably because they want to sell quanta in the form of DAC?).  So this new way has quanta baked into the creation of every single item, making it the most important ingredient for everything.

There are some nice properties though.  The items which had expensive schematics now have much cheaper copies.  Look at warp beacons for example.  Also the production capability of a character has a limit and it is easy to sell that limit.  Also the need to spend quanta making everything might discourage people from over producing if they happen to have too much ore.

I disagree. Game will not survive long because it's not in a good state at all.  It's bare bones. People will sub if the game is good, and has content.

How can it be silly if that's a selling point as to why people left money in the first place?
You've been around long enough to know which big orgs were there and what they always wanted.

How many of them are left? We now have what we have. Will that be enough?

OH joy, a race track that will be fun for about 5 minutes and then just more boring repetition like everything else in this game. And lets call it a time trial track because lets be honest you cant actually race anyone reliably without the desync completely ruining the experience

Ok - just have to get this off my chest:   I liked the game a LOT more at 0.22.  I thought replacing the mining approach was ok - until I saw someone with 80+ mining units in a single segment.  That does NOT look exciting.  Shields are cool, will give them that.  Emphasis on PVP when the rest of the game is in such bad shape was annoying.

Don't know how, but honestly feel they need to stop (perhaps in 3-6 months when players drop?), go back to the original premise of a player driven sandbox, and abolish the trend of "Its a sandbox, you can play it anyway you want... so long as we agree with your approach.  If you don't, we will force you to agree to our approach."

How exactly do you envisage this? Everyone talks about how much potential the game has. The game had potential two years ago. The game had potential 4 years ago too. It also had potential when it was introduced on KS in 2016.

But now comes my question. We are going into release next month - when is the potential going to be realised in this game that was in development for 8 years?

I can't tell a new player that things are good that are not good or missing. About missing features, about things that don't work and a feature that was completely changed, that you can't do planetary mining anymore but have to use mining units.

There are so many indicators, just the fact that you didn't see any advertising (or scenes in trailers that don't take place like that), that the Twitch statistics have dropped rapidly (the game is currently at 28 average viewers, that once was at 1000 in August 2020, with every week falling, I had recorded somewhere in the forum here how the case was), that cost-cutting was worked on, that a new CEO was suddenly there - attention, the community had first found out that he was the new one, before NQ said anything.

Furthermore, employees in key positions quickly resigned (example: former CCP Technical Director Högni Gylfason as CTO who left after less than a year), which can be seen in the public profiles on LinkedIn. And I don't even want to talk about false promises and information, bad or no communication of the developers in the last years, which the players have already experienced since the beta in August 2020.

And I go back to my original question:
How do you imagine that I can enthuse a new player for this game after this text? Especially with the argument that this person has to sign up for a subscription in order to continue playing.

Why shouldn't that person rather play World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King Classic on 26 September?

I would describe the game as follows: It's Landmark in space. The "millions of players" it has always talked about are not there. And it doesn't even manage to show 50 players in one place.

But in the end, everyone has the opportunity to play the game for 2 weeks at release. Then everyone will decide for themselves how long they want to stay with it. It can be assumed that many will be there for the first 2 months, as with any other mmorpg.

But it will be interesting to see what happens after these 2 months.

Has there been any MMO launch that didn't have server nightmares?  The devs can estimate demand and plan server count still to be blown out of the aether  by being more popular than anticipated.

I have no problem with the risk aspect of asteroids. I go in fully expecting that there may be a person there already or that I may be interrupted after a few minutes of mining.

All that said, the system as it works now doesn't make sense, and that is like a splinter in my brain. What is in game reason that people with this magic DSAT know when an asteroid has been found? Are the DSAT and the asteroid sharing some psychic link? It makes little sense.

There are so many things lately with this slapped together feeling and no explanation for why it works this way. If we had deep space radar that could detect activity in the region of asteroids, then create a mechanic for that. At least this sort of mechanic could feed into other new features.

An alternative would be some sort of hacking feature that would allow players to hack into a DSAT network to locate where a DSAT is actively scanning.

These sorts of things would create additional conflict, make some actual sense, and require a more active role to be played by the hunter. There is way too much passive gameplay now as it is.

The fact DU makes it so easy for anyone to track someone else is why so many don't go out and risk out in PVP zone. NQ doesn't seem to understand that, they keep trying to make encounters an easy thing to see if players get involved in PVP without realizing this will only end up with the PVP space being a place exclusive to PVP players, with nobody else wanting to get into there with risk of being camped/scanned/whatever.

I'm not even bothered if some PVP org decides to claim one asteroid as theirs or camp it waiting for players to come there and gank them, that should be valid gameplay, same as if someone wants to patrol the areas around asteroids or hunt down someone carrying good cargo, but like everything else PVP and piracy should need active work from players and not only consist of someone looking at the DSAT middle column and saying "ok boys, let's go to this asteroid because someone just landed there". Why should I, as a miner, be forced to spend 40 minutes slow boating to some asteroid plus a extra minutes trying to pin-point its location and even more extracting its contents, which takes some time for T3+, while on the other side some random kid can just automatically know I set foot there and come directly at me to take my stuff, without barely any work on his part other than camping the DSAT screen?

DU needs more PVP interactions? Definitely. But pushing players into it hoping they will start participating more will just end up with the opposite effect.

EvE and Star Citizen have ALL their asteroids in a pvp zone. DU needs to be the same.  Otherwise they will never compete with those games in terms of population.  NQ can't grow their game with a terrible population.

Also those games don't broadcast where someone is. That's the dumbest f*cking thing I've seen. It actually does the opposite to promote pvp. SC and EvE whether you are the hunter or miner, you have to actually go out and look/explore.  It's more balanced. The miner should expect to survive 95% of its pvp mining ops. This in turn adds way more people to do it, enough so the pvper still occasionally finds someone and emergent gameplay happens.

This right here. We were promised only Sanc and 20km of safe zone around ark ship.  Until that is deliverd dont see how I can give them any money.  I dont want some PVE builder game, if I do id play space engineers or another game.  Voxels suck for the most part its not like they support anything, shit just magically floats in the air no physics.  StarBase at least actually have to plan to hold proper weight and build for function.  The selling point of DU was single shard where the players make the content and choose.   You cant have that if everything is in the safe zone.

My argument is merely this. Call the packs what they are. Don’t portray them as a thank you to those who supported the game through beta. It’s marketing play that is merely a ploy to draw more subs.  The biggest problem that has happened through my tenure in this game is not being upfront and honest with the community. Eventually, people will give up if they can’t get honest from the company.
