what is the mechanics - does the ore renew, regenerate? will there be a shortage of ore on the planet in the future ?

I'm a new player. We mine ore on ALIOTH. There are hundreds of caves here

Does anyone know what happens to underground caves after mining. I mine resources and there are huge holes in the ground. The planet will look like cheese with holes in some time.
