  1. I'm going to piggy-back on Deckard's post to answer a question many of you have been asking. Although I wasn't able to confirm with Support, the answer I was able to get is that decorative elements should not be an issue; functional elements are the "no no" that's being addressed with this update. If you are uncertain whether or not your elements will be problematic, please contact Support. We try our best to avoid doing maintenance or deploying things on the weekend or on Mondays. This means that the earliest we could possibly deploy Ares to Live is Tuesday but that is not set in stone. We'll need to see the results from players who were on PTS over the weekend and go from there. The point is that you have plenty of time to address any element stacking situation that needs to be corrected, even if you need to ask Support for guidance.
  2. The Dual Universe forum will be offline briefly on Monday, September 6, 2021, for scheduled maintenance that will begin at 7:30 am UTC/3:30 am EDT.
  3. The Dual Universe roadmap that we presented in July has been revised with an additional update, Ares (0.26.10), sliding in before Demeter (0.27), which has, in turn, been slightly delayed. Ares will bring more changes to PvP with the addition of Shields v2 thanks to the introduction of adjustable resistances and venting to complement the feature introduced in Apollo (0.26). Together with a new victory condition called “Core Combat Stress”, we hope to offer an improved PvP experience as players continue to fight for the riches of the newly introduced asteroids. Watch for an upcoming devblog that will cast more light on these PvP-related topics. What features and changes are you looking forward to in the Ares update?
  4. Questions or comments about the Market-Cleanup announcement? Post them here.
  5. Update 10-20-21 - REMINDER: These rules are still in effect and are now extended to mission hubs. In an effort to improve the experience of visiting some of our most popular markets, we will be implementing a new set of rules for constructs left at markets. Enforcement of these rules will begin on the 3rd of September at 6pm UTC. (That’s one week from the date of this notification.) We want to encourage a free and open game environment for all to enjoy. It’s in the spirit of that goal that these measures are being put into place. Only ships are allowed on the market landing platform. Constructs must be parked outside the green perimeter line surrounding the main market building and the access ramp to the market. One container construct per entity (player or organization) will be allowed for the purpose of storage below the landing pads. Shop constructs, advertisements, and dispensers are not permitted at any markets. These should be placed on your own tiles or at districts instead. We would like to remind you that you now have the ability to place a “Welcome Visitors” marker on your territory. Under no circumstances may player constructs intersect with the Aphelia constructs. Constructs at the Aphelia markets must be parked either on the landing platform or the ground around the Aphelia markets. Airspace within 2km of the market building must remain clear. XL screens and screen arrays are not permitted within 2km of the market building Constructs that violate these rules may be hidden, removed, or abandoned without warning. Novaquark reserves the right to move, hide, or delete constructs at its discretion, for example if they are designed to circumvent these rules or if they impact marketplace performance or usability. To safeguard the performance of everyone visiting these locations, we strongly encourage players to adapt any screens and advertisements to use Lua based Render Script instead of SVG/HTML even if that is in the form of uploading an image of your SVG and then loading that into the Render Script. Join the conversation here.
  6. Good job, asteroid hunters! One hundred and two of the 190 asteroids in the first wave were discovered. And of those, all tier 3, 4, and 5 asteroids were discovered. We spotted, and corrected, a glitch in the asteroid despawn and spawn times. As a result, the current wave will all despawn on Saturday at 9 am UTC, then the new wave will spawn in batches as intended. Happy hunting!
  7. If you haven't already, please submit a Support ticket. That will make it much easier for us to investigate and help you resolve the issue. Thanks!
  8. We received feedback that there were some sound effects (SFX) issues that arose with the Apollo update on the Live server; however, they were not happening on the public test server (PTS). Here's where we're at with those: The cause for the warp drive sound issue has been identified and will be addressed in an upcoming patch. We are continuing to investigate an issue related to piloting sounds. Thank you to everyone who submitted reports and especially to those who sent in video clips.
  9. The recent patch included a temporary work-around that corrected the "inventory crash" issue for many but not all users. A more comprehensive fix is in the pipeline and will be released soon. We hope this will squish that bug for good. Big thanks to all who reported the problem and gave us the information we needed to identify the cause so we could address it.
  10. @BlindingBright, thank you for bringing this up. We are training more team members on how to do messaging on the launcher in order to provide more effective communication in as many places as possible. We'll be better!
  11. We're sorry to report that VR stations are on the fritz again. To avoid getting stuck or losing inventory, please refrain from using VR until further notice.
  12. On August 3, we announced that the first wave of asteroids was estimated to arrive on Saturday, August 7th, at 09:00 UTC. We have received reports that they have begun to spawn early - as in now. Support has received questions from players asking if it would be considered an exploit for them to begin mining asteroids now. No, it would not be considered an exploit. Go forth and mine with confidence. Happy hunting!
  13. We are aware that there have been a number of crashing incidents since the Apollo launch earlier this week. First, we’d like to apologize for the disruption it’s caused. Second, we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to send in Support tickets, detailed crash reports, and related logs. The information went a long way in helping us to narrow down the cause. The good news is that a fix is in the works. The bad news is that we probably won’t have it ready until after the weekend. Thank you so much for your incredible support and patience.

Visit the Forum and Social Channels Rules of Conduct page to see the revised policy.
  15. Going to say this once: Personal attacks are not permitted. Some of you are dangerously close to incurring the Legendary Terrible Wrath of Pann™. Don't go there. Please.
  16. All the best to you, Rhotan. Thank you for your service to the DU community.

  19. It's a twist on Peter Pan. "Hook" is my favorite movie, and Robin Williams is my favorite Peter Pan. I wasn't able to use "Pan" for my UO volunteer name because we had to be logged into IRC while we were on shift and the name was already taken there. So, I tacked on the extra "n" and that was that. After so many years since EVE began, I think it's increasingly likely to find at least one ex-CCPer in some capacity on most projects. The video game industry is relatively small, with less than six degrees of separation. What I've found over the years is that even if we're working on games that are directly competing with each other, there's still a basic sense of comradery. We cheer for each others' successes, we genuinely feel bad when a game is cancelled or sunsetted because we have friends that work on it, and we are careful who we smacktalk because you never know who knows who. heh The guy who wrote the EVE backstory and a lot (all?) of the early fiction was on the DU team for a bit, and there's someone on the Support team who worked at CCP also. Funny thing about the latter is that we met at a convention shortly before I left CCP, though he didn't join that team until sometime after I left.
  20. I joined the TR team about six months prior to its debut at E3. This was when it had a pastel color palette and weird weapons like fans, drumsticks, etc. It wasn't fun and it fell flat at E3. We were crushed, but I can't say we were surprised. Starr Long, the producer, called each member of the team to his office for a 1:1. He asked, "Why wouldn't you buy Tabula Rasa today?" I've had lots of conversations with him since then, but I always come back to this because in that moment my respect for him soared to infinity. How hard that must have been for him, in meeting after meeting, to hear people -- his own team -- list off all the things that were wrong with a game he'd already dedicated X-many years of his life to bring to this point. It had to be gut-wretching, but he did it with grace and humility. You gotta have mad respect for a man like that. Like here in my office or in the game, cause I'd be down for a giant disco ball here in Pann's Playhouse. That would be dope! Sorry. No way I'd waste skill points on Spirit Speak. An Corp! I'm not the boss of the social media team, so I can't assign tasks to them. Plus, that sort of thing isn't really in their wheelhouse. Instead, I can tell you that one of the things I will be doing is overviews of our own live streams. Once I've gotten a little more settled and I'm more involved with the content creator community, I may be able to at least hit the highlights when a member of our team is a guest on a live stream or video. I don't have an aversion to pineapple on pizza, but my favorite is a crispy crust with alfredo sauce, mushrooms, black olives, and bell pepper. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. ? Seriously, it's on our internal calendar but I'm not able to announce it just yet. Soon™. Lost Boys kill pirates. Just sayin'. Lake Superior was my play shard, so that was definitely a favorite. I was a seer on Great Lakes, so lots of great memories from there as well. But, I gotta say, my favorite places were the ones you could only get to if you were a volunteer. I remember that one of the GMs had been tweaked so that if you double-clicked on him, you could throw him and he'd blow up like a purple potion. Good times. ? We have a phrase here in the South, "Dance with the one that brung ya", meaning that you should devote your attention to the person that brought you to the party. I guess that's how I feel about games, too. When I'm working on a game, I don't really play anything else (unless it's some silly little mobile game like Candy Crush). I'd been working on Crowfall for the last five years so that's what I was playing. I'm the n00biest of the n00bs in Dual Universe now, looking forward to learning the ins and outs from all of you. Speaking frankly, these won't ever be the kinds of questions I'll be able to answer. My role is mostly behind the scenes, writing things and working with the content creator community. Pann. It's the name I used as a UO volunteer and I've been using it ever since.
  21. Hihihi! I'm thrilled to be here as the newest member of the Dual Universe Community team. ICYMI, you can read my introduction post here. Tell me a little about yourself. What brought you to Dual Universe? Ask me anything. I'll answer what I can.
  22. Greetings, Noveans! I'm NQ-Pann, the latest addition to the stellar (see what I did there?) Dual Universe Community team. It is my esteemed privilege to be here, entering into my second week at Novaquark. Some of you may know me from previous projects. My MMO journey began as an Ultima Online player. It wasn't long before I began writing for game sites (mostly UO Stratics) and joining the UO volunteer program. This led to my first "real" job in the industry as the original community manager for EVE Online. I've also worked on Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault, Imperium: Galactic War and, most recently, Crowfall. I'm a native Texan, living in the Austin area with my husband (whom I met in UO!) and our very large, spoiled rotten cat. My role here will mostly be behind-the-scenes, writing news and blogs. I'll also be the primary point of contact for content creators, so if you stream, make videos, or resources for Dual Universe, I look forward to meeting you soon. Head over to my AMA thread and let's get acquainted!
