There is to much competition to 'force' players these days. Why should I pay a monthly subscription for endless grind and hardly any content, when there are other games out there?

It's a moot point.  The person in charge of making decisions is not a game designer, he's a rocket scientist.  JC makes all the calls and I doubt he takes any feedback from the devs.  There is just no way that anyone who is experienced enough to get a job at his company in the first place would make any of the decisions we have seen so far. It's like "game design 101 gone wrong".  I often wonder if they even have a design document to work off of or if they just fly by the seat of their pants all the time.  I'm betting the latter.

I know that NQ has said that they _plan_ to release (end of) 2021.. I'd like to know where they made a statement they _will_  release regardless of the state of the game as was claimed above.

We can agree to disagree here but I do not see how they can see no issues with a release quality state of the game, with all the features, bugfixes and optimizations that would require.

Frankly, I expect they will spin it as "we delivered on all features, we are not yet done and will complete them over the next two years but they are in in principle". NQ wil tick the boxes and call it a release..

Yeah. I won't be taking player missions - at least not out of safe space - cause the whole idea is shit. It's really sad. If I want to do missions I'll log into SC where if the mission giver is scamming, it's part of a carefully crafted story-line.

    OK, let's do this.

Hi, I'm Oxdale, Founder and Associate at Huginn & Muninn Associates. I'm also the founder of the Old Guard of Gaia (this detail is important), an organisation for which I took a back seat some month ago (burn out), but the OGG values are still alive !

I made and deployed the BIRD. This is not my main service but an experimental system I'm still working on.

    The goal :
As I said, I found the Old Guard of Gaia, whose values are independance, balance, immersion and respect. My ultimate goal is to live in an immersive world, where relations between "evil"&"good", "PvP"&"Carebear", "Casual"&"Hardcore", ... are balanced and sustainable on the long term, and where players have respect even if characters can spit on each other with a smile. It has always been my motivations. You can find my interventions on this forum, long before I even have the idea of Huginn&Muninn.

    The idea :
I'm developing a service to help organization and any players to protect themselves against scammers, freePK, trolls, thieves, serial-org-quitters and every toxic behavior we could find. Because currently, those action can be made with full impunity and it's nearly impossible to prevent this. I'm trying to find a way.

And thus, this is not a surprise some dislikes this service. Choose your side.

    The service :
It is a paid service, indeed. Because I need to pay fuel, scrap, cells and spare elements of my ship. But I told all my current clients that friendship, safe shelter, fuel&repairs and visits is a sufficient payment for me. Information is also a kind of payment I accept with great pleasure.I don't care earning money, I just want to explore and make contacts with the noveans (also an OGG concept). Furthermore, trading allows me to fly my ship.

I wanted it independant from any organization because it's not a domination tool. On the contrary, it is a leveling tool. But don't be fooled : big organization has the same, and probably more. I'm here also for the little ones.

    The code :
The BIRD are running strictly the same code you can find around any serious base or ship around and I'm still developing it to consume less and less resources, regarding the heavy limitations NQ already enforce for Lua scripts, especially around markets (Alioth ...). Believe me, I don't like cluttered market neither, so I made it, I hope, quite aesthetic, small, immersive and not on the paths. Moreover, the script is just an on/off run, it does not last more than 500ms.

Everything I read about what I can do with Lua is really pure fantasy. This is a basic piece of code. All the refinements are for ingame performance and exploitation.

Now some reactions to what I read here :

First point : if I wanted to spy, I won't describe Huginn&Muninn Associates as an intelligence and security agency, this is in the public description from the beginning. And, obviously, I wouldn't put this as a full white pillars with crows from a Huginn&Muninn org (any simple research on Google would give you a lot of hints). If I was an evil hidden spy, I would do like some others already do : put "trade", "recruitment", "mission" or "get fuel" booth and hide sensors, or just land a little speeder with some code in it. There are so many ways to hide it visually (even if it would have been detected in the Lua channel tab). I chose to show it with some elegance.

Second point : some are surprised Lua is executing code on their pc. It's how Lua  works, and how it is working in DU from the beginning. And news for them : same for every single line of javascript on a web page. And there are A LOT of it, and far more harmful than gather avatar ids in a video game.

Third point : This is an emergent gameplay. If NQ doesn't consider it the same, no problem. I'll do something else.

I won't intervene anymore in this thread because I think I've written all of it. But I would be glad to chat on Discord with you about this.

Whatever it will be, it is going to be whatever they could throw together with the least amount of effort. And then NQ will say something like <JC voice>Guys, we know this is an early version, but we will make it much better I promise</JC voice>. And then after some weeks of putting out fires from 0.24, NQ will go into silent mode again for 0.25, and we will be stuck with some subpar clunky mission system for a couple of years at least..

I would like nothing more then to be proven wrong. But all historical evidence point to the scenario I just described.

Here is like transperent indy studio info looks like:
    https://anvilgamestudios.com/presskit/#credits

You find nothing like this with NQ beyond their initial KS skeleton team listing 5 years ago, that likely seriously changed. It may be 100 empoyes, maybe 50, who knows, may be 10 of them making game and others mining bitcoins on your PCs : ) Also NQ have sub-divisions (France and Canada) likely not only for access to people, but also some creative bookkeeping/legal magic (as some of more investegative noveans suspect).

Not easily -- but they have avenues through international treaty, especially between US/EU. GDPR supersedes any clause hidden in the terms of use when it comes to EU citizens.

Honestly, NQ would probably be the party that receives the fine -- they're the ones that own the data and it is their obligation to make sure their users abide by GDPR. I don't think there's ever been a case where the EU fines an individual for GDPR violations...random gamers probably don't have anything to worry about....but NQ? They maybe should.

Chances are good they could ignore it and there'd never be a problem...but if there was a breach (see my phishing description above) they'd be in trouble.

I think in a beta you should give feedback and if many users are dissatisfied they give appropriate feedback.
You are free to give positive feedback in your own Tread.
I think the developers should be happy to get positive and negative feedback, that's what alpha / beta is for.
Because this is the time to get different perspectives on the game.
The developers and players should consider themselves lucky if the forum is used for this.

In next episode: NQ roll asteroids hugely unbalanced with some browbusting cringe, like they all consist of mega-nodes of T4-T5, our usual suspects grab billions worth of ore... in hours or days, then NQ nerf asteroids for everyone else, but allow to keep initial "harvest", because its not that impactful, and they sorry for inconvenience.

Im not into building games at all and never played factorio ir Minecraft or that stuff but for some reason I picked up dyson sphere program a few days ago which is in early access rn. And guess what, all the basic funcionality is in the game right from the start and I love it so far, sitting at 60h and rising.

When compared to NQs labeling that game might as well be at release rn and not in early access. Go figure

If this forum was "in game" roleplay I would of course feign outrage myself because I'm not getting in on the action yet. But this section of the forum is clearly "Out of Game". So they seriously think that they have a certain degree of in game rights and privacy in this game, which means they think they had the same in past games...which means they have no idea what's going on.

    But that's an aside... sorry...

People have REALLY short memories these days... As each day goes by, less and less people will feel outrage at the perceived unfairness and will likely just move on with their lives... leaving those who gained through unjust means to move further and further ahead in life... erm.. I mean in game.

Nothing will be done, nothing will change. this will all happen again in four years... err... I mean, this will all happen again in the near future.... Sorry, it's just that the tone of IRL and gaming pages and forums seem to be merging these days. Everyone clamouring for justice and pointing at the injustices that are left to fester....

Come to a game to escape real life.. Find the same shit going on in the game... Move to a different game... rinse and repeat...
    sigh..

NQ had a chance to deal with this in a sane and fair way but for whatever reason have chosen to just ignore it and keep on keeping on... So sad.

I might have to go back to Tetris.

You think that what an in game item does with relation to a fictional in game character with no relevance to your real world identity or any personal data has any merit regarding Real world privacy regulations? Please.. but thanks for playing anyway.

RL laws and rules do not apply in a game in case you were asking.. If they were, we'd see millions of people being put in jail for murder
Besides all that, again, what evidence do you actually have this is happening and that if it is happening it is being used for malicious purposes.

If i choose to collect information on your in game character I do not need permission to do so and if I choose to create a business out of selling that data in game there is nothing that prevents me from doing so. Again, RL laws and regulations do not apply here unless I am able to use the information collected in game to link to your RL persona. That is not possible.

At best the item collects character ID (not player ID), time you entered the range of the built in detector and possible the time you left it, that is all. Outside of the game this information is completely and utterly useless and means exactly .. nothing.

Exactly, the website you are typing this on collects more and actual private data from you. And yes, you did consent to this when you started using the forums so if this is such an issue for you, why are you even here? (not you michalk.. obviously)

Lol, people have some really weird ideas about privacy and law.

This very forum uses Google Analytics...it's literally the first lines of the source code. You're being tracked as you read this very message.

Collecting anonymous data without your consent isn't illegal in the US.

Collecting data and selling it to third parties isn't illegal, either! You must provide an opt-out form per California's new law (CCPA)...that doesn't make it illegal to sell your information without consent, it just mandates a method to opt-out of such transactions and requires you to burry some text in your TOUs.

Spamming people isn't even illegal, there's plenty of wiggle room in CANSPAM. Hate to break it to you, but the law in the US really doesn't care about your online privacy.

I don't know what you think people will do with this data that makes it so invasive...

I simply don't understand some things.

    1) If CMs only messengers in principle, why so many, 1 responsable guy can make just anouncments when devs ask.
    2) If not, why so little live interaction with us?
    3) Why CMs like here and next time they just disspear into... depths. First Naerais, then Naunet.
3.1) What they doing in this depths?
    4) Why still this aura of secrecy (considering NDA is over and game is fully on public) -- we know almost nothing about development between rare streams, that are not even that good source of info.
4.1) Is this JC's vision to go for such low actual transperancy?

I always have feeling that this... hides some macabre secret of NQ operations.
