Shockeray reacted to NQ-Nyota in Thoramine and Related Post-Release Rewards
    Hi everyone!

We’ve been hearing some legitimate complaints about the reward associated with having Thoramine on some characters. The issue is that the reward for having Thoramine can’t be bound to an account completely (it can be deployed and picked up by other players). Since this reward should be considered very rare, having the ability to trade it could potentially allow players to achieve a huge source of wealth if traded. In light of that, we’ve decided to use this reward for later events instead. Owners of at least 500L of Thoramine will still get a distinction that will not impact the in-game economy: they will be granted an in-game title to celebrate the memory of owning such a precious and rare resource.

Regarding the controversy of people acquiring Thoramine through RMT:

After investigation, We didn't find any evidence of an RMT transaction about Thoramine. However, we do know that some amount of Thoramine has been exchanged in DU for resources in another game. Though this kind of transaction is not considered RMT (reminder: Real Money Trading implies that the seller receives real money), it does fall in a grey area, which was not covered by our rules so far. As the nature of such an exchange was not covered by our rules, no sanction will be applied to the community members for this time. However, from now on, transactions of this type are considered against the rules and all community members caught doing so will be subject to some significant sanctions.

    Strong reminder about public accusations:

We would like to remind everyone that public accusations are a solid “no go”. There are only two scenarios possible:

    1) If you have at least partial evidence that a community member has broken our forum/discord rules or EULA, and you have evidence of this, please report it to the mods in private. In rare cases it can be more appropriate, you can instead report it - in private - to one of the CMs on Discord, or write to the whole CM team at community@novaquark.com. It’s not your prerogative to start a witch hunt even if you have evidence.

    2) If you just happen to hear about someone doing something that breaks the rules, refrain from making any public accusation. If you don't have any evidence (reminder: some screenshots of a discussion is not considered evidence, as it could be falsified.) However it can be a good start for an internal investigation. Also, keep in mind that providing false/altered evidence to the Novaquark team can backfire to the one(s) who provided the evidence. We are aware that some people consider weaponizing the rules as an okay form of “PvP”. To be clear, this is not considered okay at all by the Novaquark team, and can be severely  punished, for both following reasons: trying to take down an innocent player by shady means and wasting the time of the Novaquark team for no good reason. If you want to do PvP, you have to do it by the rules, or you’re exposing yourself to serious sanctions.

Last but not least, public accusations can trigger harassment and significant reputation damage that can be irreversible even if the person is innocent in the end. Even if you’re sure the person is guilty, let the Novaquark team investigate. It’s not your prerogative to start a witch hunt based on partial evidence (because if you happen to be wrong, who will pay the most in the end for this error? Certainly not the one who started the public accusation). Of course, we also take into account that all public accusations do not have all the same severity (hence not the same consequences). If you’re accusing someone of RMT, Bug Exploiting, Doxxing, etc they are considered very serious, and they do not have the same consequences as accusing someone of trolling, for example.

    Thanks for your understanding.
    The Novaquark team.

    Hey folks,

thank you all for your input. There's nothing wrong with having a debate, but the fronts have hardened and I don't think the opposing sides will come to an agreement any time soon.

To not let it be lost in the stream I'll link the follow-up statement by @NQ-Naerais one more time for others to find and after that I'm going to lock this thread.

As I see it this settles the matter. There have been complaints in the past that the rules are not being enforced properly and I've seen many fights about rule interpretation too. I even entered those discussions on occasion and shared my personal point of view - especially regarding the advice to take a "better safe than sorry" stance - and those comments of mine have been on top of official clarifications and announcements. That we have two strongly opposing sides in this argument is not new and didn't come with the Market 15 incident. I hope that as things become clearer and more streamlined, most of you will find a way to get comfortable with the rules in place.

Let's move on, continue to enjoy the game and build Dual Universe.

    Mellow greetings

    Hello Noveans,

At this stage it’s hard to ignore that the “Market Heist” has definitely caused a stir of dialogue and reactions both in our community and on the internet.

We have taken some time to look at the situation in more detail: the actions of these players are not ok, not condoned, and will not be tolerated. We stand by our decision, and we’d like to better explain it.

Most of what Novaquark builds within the game world, such as markets, institutes or the Arkship is not a player-owned construct. It is a part of the game play designed to serve all players. There are exceptions, like shipwrecks, which are designed for salvaging, and clearly communicated as such.

We did, indeed, state to players that if RDMS is not properly set on a construct, and it results in theft, it’s part of the game and we won’t act upon it. This is to acknowledge that treason can happen in an organization, for instance, and is part of the emergent gameplay we’re trying to promote.

Now, this does obviously not apply to NQ-built constructs, which are designed to serve a specific purpose in the game. It is obvious that these constructs, owned by NQ accounts or Aphelia, are not meant to be interacted with in the same manner as player constructs. Besides, they may contain some highly overpowered and unbalanced elements which were never meant to fall in the hands of players. So the situation with the market is clearly covered by section 5.2 of the EULA: “You must refrain from engaging in any behaviour that could harm NOVAQUARK’s image and/or reputation, that could harm one or more other Users or have a negative impact on their gaming experience, or that is detrimental to the proper functioning of the Game.”

Finally, and for the record, the issue with the market did not result in a wrongly-set RDMS, but rather in a duplication bug. Part of what we use is the same tools as players to build constructs. We create one district, then duplicate it. Something went wrong in the duplication process of one of the markets, which resulted in players being able to edit it.

Were we harsh? Yes. But we had previously communicated that we would no longer tolerate abuses of bugs and issues. We do realize that perhaps this started innocently enough in that someone pressed “B” while standing on a market. But it went beyond this, and that shows intention. The players involved indicated that they reported the issue, and after further investigation, one did, though not by following the proper feedback channel: they pinged a staff account on Discord in the middle of the night. We’ve clearly stated that staff do not respond to pings on Discord, and that the reporting method for exploits and bugs of this nature is either via our ticket system, or via a community manager on the forums.

Even a proper attempt to inform us about an exploit doesn’t mean that it’s OK to go on and abuse it. Communicating an exploit to the NQ staff doesn’t serve as a way to absolve the players, it’s only meant to ensure that we fix the issue - it’s not a free pass to use an exploit. The banned players destroyed a player market by dismantling it, and the fact that they communicated with us via Reddit with a request not to be banned shows that they knew what they were doing was wrong. They posted on Reddit, proud of their ‘achievement’ and of the destruction.

In the end, repairing the damage cost us hours of manpower across multiple departments, which could have been invested into further progressing the game.

That is why we take this seriously.

Here are a couple of things that we’d like to reiterate:
We are in beta.  Things aren’t always going to work as intended. But we have a persistent, single-shard universe, and altering its foundations impacts all players. Bug Fixes aren’t instant. They take manpower time to find, investigate, fix, test and roll out. We try to make sure that fixing a bug doesn’t introduce a dozen more. As beta players, we count on you to help us and report bugs, not abuse them. We believe that this is fairly standard for most games.   We genuinely hope this brings some clarity to the situation, and ask you all to remember this is a communal effort. We’re in this together.

    Sincerely,
    The Novaquark Team

    Hello Noveans,

By now, some of you may be aware that unlucky number Market 15 has been stripped bare and left to create ugly memes for generations to come. We’re trying to look at this in good humour as, from the front, it appears to be an issue that was created when we moved the markets, making it editable by players. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist (though we know there are a few of you out there) to understand that the markets are not a community construction, and as such not intended to be handled by players on this level. The destruction of the build isn’t a quick fix, and was clearly done knowing it shouldn't be.

An important aspect we are considering in all cases and investigations is intention. The intention behind this destruction is very clear to us. The players involved did not report this bug to us, but instead simply filled their pockets. Had this stopped with a single voxel removed it would be a different story.  This is, at its core, a violation of the EULA and against the intentions of beta. We have been as understanding as we can until this point, but there must be a line.

Let us be clear, we will not tolerate this kind of behaviour during any phase of the development of Dual Universe.

The players responsible for the destruction of the market have been permanently banned from Dual Universe, and all salvaged materials and assets gained will be removed without compensation.

    Sincerely,
    The Novaquark Team

This is definitely an issue, my org of 10 people has been visiting safe zone moons and planets and coming up empty for T3+ ores on nearly all of the tiles we've scanned so far. When we do find deposits they are very small, maybe 3-5Kl nodes that nobody else wanted to spend a great deal of time or effort to dig up. We're moving to Warp Drive gameplay, which requires a lot of T3 resources and they have been incredibly hard to find. Without renewing resources, the economy loses lubrication and starts to grind to a halt, meanwhile prices even for basic things begins to skyrocket due to market supply not being able to meet demand anymore because travel becomes limited along with the resources. Without renewable sources of materials or a TRULY vast amount of static resources, it's inevitable that the economy and gameplay of the simulation is doomed to failure. And it could happen way faster than you may assume as the playerbase grows and the speed of mining the resources accelerates.

Yeah, I am discovering the same thing. This poses a major problem not just for smaller organizations and solo players, but also for new players. You can get along just fine for tier 1-2 as a new player, but making that jump to the next level is extremely difficult. There is a giant cube shaped boot on the neck of new players, trapping them in the safe zone where the higher tier resources have become scarce.

    the problem:
@NQ Devteam all moons in safe zone im visiting are empty of rare ores... the surface of all plots are like this:

what should we do? what is planned in short term to gather higer tier ores? and for new players that they pay you some sub?
it is an important issue that we need to solve in max of weeks not months.

smaller orgs actually can't compete with bigger ones for the mining competition in safe zone. in other words, big orgs are exploiting the safe zone resources (already having military power) and make smaller orgs or solo players can't do nothing else than basic stuff or sell basic ore they gather making the trouble worst.
in my opinion is not fair and need some kind of balance "quick".
keep the resources in balance will make the comunity safe and mild. if this balance is broke, well i think very well that you know the concecuences and don't need that me a nonamer gold backer to tells you about. didn't you?
or this is a social experiment and you want to learn about the patient and consecunces of the people when run out of resources and you split the comunity in 2: the bigger powerfull empire and the resistance... probably thats why is call "dual": the good and evil, the red vs blue, the light vs dark, the bigger alliance vs the rest of the server. that things ruin sandbox mmos comunity behavior (the best example is life is feudal mmo).
plz do something quick or the wars will explode in your discord, forums, social media and everywhere else than the ingame before the full pvp is turned on.

my ideas: (for newbies and pve sheeps)
-short term: (easy for you to acomplish)
asteroid rains over the moons that refill the resources from time to time (making dangerously deadly to build constructs there or simply negate the TS placing on moons) not need to be visual in short term. just keep the players informed when it happens. (this idea is from a zellcore memeber called: Vitari) diferent tiers of quests to gather resources, quanta and talent points from renewable resource moons or especific renewable ore veins near arch plots (im sure you are working on something similar)
-long term: (im quite sure you are working on it... didn't you?)
asteroid belts (can be a good oportunity to test physics and/with volxel entities apart from the core construct system you have now) expand the open space with more systems
***the idea of this thread is to have an answer from "NQ Team" for a public information.***
if someone want to discuss or add more ideas for short and long term plz help and support this thread. salut!

    Hello Noveans!

We would like to thank you for your patience during the past few weeks as we have been incredibly focused on getting you all into the game. While we know there are still a few edge cases out there, we hope you’ve been enjoying your time in Dual Universe!

A burning topic is known bugs surrounding duping, and their exploitation. We’d like to offer some clarifications on this.

We are aware of some bugs that were allowing players to dupe items and resources, and we are actively investigating  these. The process is however slow and labor intensive. Given how much time is involved, and how severe the outcome is, we want to make it clear that we are taking all exploits very seriously and they will carry heavy sanctions for abuse cases up to and including removal of player accounts and permanent bans.

We have a zero tolerance policy towards cheating and exploiting, as is clearly laid out in our Code of Conduct.

For those who have encountered these bugs and already reported them, we thank you. There will be no sanctions on those accounts. We may balance gains if deemed necessary.  For those who have been knowingly abusing bugs, you have 48 hours to report your activities via a ticket here: support.dualthegame.com - your duped proceeds will be removed, but no further action will be taken. Please select Gameplay in the first form drop-down, select the “Rules & Policies” > “Exploits” category and use the subject “Self Report” For those who continue to exploit, and do not report it, your account will be banned without notice upon completion of our investigations.
While every person has their own sense of fun, it is important to remember that this is an MMO and that rules must be enforced to keep play fair and even.
We thank you for being a part of the Dual Universe  beta and for helping us keep the game fair and entertaining.

Calling people names because they call you names is not justifiable. As you freely expose what you said, regardless of what was said to you, any moderator doing his job will respond to that and give you a warning at least. As you then proceed to publicly argue the moderator warning  you literally break the TOS for the discord and get a penalty. Discussing a moderator warning/sanction in public is a general nono on any community forum/platform and is explicitly mention as not allowed.

All this has nothing to do whatsoever with whatever may have been said to you (or in general) by anyone else, this is about you using abusive language, taking a personal jab at someone else and once warned by a moderator proceed to publicly question that warning. The moderation team acted in an appropriate and measured way following the Discord TOS.

What yo should have done is use the Moderatormail bot to report the other person spreading misinformation in the first place. It is what the bot is there for.

Now if you want to argue that NQ has never clearly communicated on the presence of the bot and how to use it sure, you have a valid argument there. But then again, the bot is clearly visible and by it's name it should be obvious what the bot is for. Even if you did not know this, you see who the mods are and you see who is online so you can message them or even @moderator in the channel asking for  mod to come in.

A lot of Discords use bots that focus on keywords, which highlight stuff like profanity faster than non-constructive or FUD type posts.
Keeping in mind that a small mod team can't see every post in real time - and reporting posts/comments can help - it could be an automod caught you because of profanity and the other person just had non-constructive but non-automod rule breaking comments.

RE: the "questiong of moderators", I haven't been to the Discord yet, but if there's a rule about it (No Discussion of Moderation publicly, etc.), I mean, it's pretty obvious that rule was broken.

If I may recommend (unsolicited, of course) something? If, in the future, you get an infraction, rather than post it in General or publicly, reach out directly to a moderator. They should be able to tell you what rule you violated and how you can move forward without further infractions.

Anywho, have a good one and good luck!

This is a lie. Or at least a selection from some incomplete data set.

I'm on Madis, and mining is 50% "Pending operation".
People are posting better specs than mine and having a worse time. Pending Operation is a constant feature for me, as is "no buildings" when I get back to base from a few hexes away.
Internet connection speed is definitely a killer. I was (for "reasons" ) trying to run across a shonky WiFi on the 20th, and that really didn't go well.
The interface has to take some blame here. It took me a couple of goes to realise that the "obfuscated" UID and Password fields actually *did* remember the values I had entered, rather than being prompts to enter anew.

"Most" is overstating the issue. "Pending Operation" (and its wicked friends) has nothing whatsoever to do with local PC capabilities; it's *all* about exchange of information and synchronisation with the servers which are struggling to keep up; this morning (BST/UTC time), when there were only a few Europeans and scattered Antipodeans playing, mining was blissfully free of "P.O." and this changed rapidly once the States started waking up, with no significant increase in local population. All the industry that's crashing with "unknown server error" is nothing to do with client device. All the loading screens halting at nn% and not progressing are nothing to do with the client (they happen to people who have a perfectly fine time once in-game). It's all about the backend infrastructure and the architecture of the game lying on top of that.

    Dear Community Members,

We have some very exciting news to share. Many of you who have been here for a long time probably already know Yamamushi. As one of the co-founders of the official community Discord and an early Kickstarter backer, Yamamushi has been around as a very active and well known community member for almost 4 years now.

We are excited to have him joining the team. With him coming on board, a few important things are going to change and we wanted to be transparent about this with you all.  We have always valued neutrality for our employees and we try to avoid any conflict of interests. Like all other employees he is bound to some important communication restrictions. Yamamushi must discontinue being a community figure while he is employed with Novaquark. This means stepping down as a moderator on Discord and our public forums, while retaining some limited administrative rights (precisely to maintain the DU Bot). He is also bound by an internal NDA contract and won’t be able to share everything as a Novaquark employee. For those who are friends with him, we ask you to avoid attempting to get behind-the-scene information from him, regarding the game or the company.

He won’t be able to communicate or play anymore as Yamamushi, but his love for the community is strong and he will continue to follow the community from the Dev side. He will also not be permitted to be a part of a player-run organization. We know this can be hard to face for such an integral part of our community and this has been a hard decision that may feel frustrating (at least it is for us and for him) but a necessary step to avoid any suspicion of favorizing any group of players in the community.

We would also like to take this opportunity to explain what are our internal rules when a member of our community becomes a Novaquark employee:

His/her personal accounts are suspended for the time he/she is a Novaquark employee.
He/she is given an anonymous player account so he/she could still continue to play the game, however, some specific rules apply to such an account:
      a. The Novaquark employee behind should not reveal his/her real identity and/or he’s part of the company.
      b. He/she shouldn’t join a player-run organization with this account either, for neutrality reasons.
He/she is given a NQ account, mostly to test things, and occasionally to communicate with the community in-game (if such opportunity arises). Nothing done on this account (coming usually with more powers/rights than a player account) will be transferred on any personal account.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, please join us in welcoming Yamamushi to the team here!

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

We interrupted the test sessions for two weeks because a big part of the team was "out of office" and it was communicated in a newsletter beforehand.
So as the service was temporarily interrupted and communicated to the backers, it was unlikely that there would be people in urgent need of support.
Now you asked on the forum during a Saturday why you hadn't have a reply yet by the Customer Support. You get an answer the following day, on a Sunday.
As an indie studio, with our budget and infrastructure, we believe we are trying our best to keep our community informed and follow up any issue that could arise.
