I can see why an industrialist would want element destruction in the safe zone.  As a pilot, I see the reason why element destruction is turned off.  Coming into Alioth with a heavy load a few seconds of lag can = total ship destruction.  Around 80% of my crashes are due to game performance.   If they can fix it, fine.

I totally agree with you. I also crashed a lot due to lags at market when doing ore hauls. But demand problem can strike big with all the taxes now... People simply have no needs to buy elements, and even won't have any quanta to buy extra just in case.
I hope someday they will fix all performance issues and will bring ement destruction back.

There's something to be said for both opinions really. The problew here is that NQ, in their drive to reduce cost and rush in "features" is entirely overlooking the most important factor in a game, i has to be fun.

As it is, DU is exceeding the need for "work" over "play" and is in many places so over engineered that there is no room for.. fun.

NQ is still mainly focussed on finding funding I am sure, to aquire that they wil need to show they have a viable and sustainable game. Designing systems to pretty much require daily login and spending a good bit of time in game drives statistics which may allow them to do that.

The whiners thing, definitely not cool, especially as a jab to others with different opinions. What got under my skin was the math thing, and not that he could have known this but I struggled with math in high school with D's and F's, on top of high school being a pretty much a fight for my life each day which was a huge contributor to my low grades. Hard to learn in an environment where you don't feels safe.

Before anyone follows up with remarks about me exaggerating the hardship I was literally assaulted with weapons several times in my life, told to go kill myself etc. Lots of physical and verbal/emotional abuse in my life, which created a lot of the anger issues I struggle with today.

That said we should probably all think about what we say to people, cause you don't know what they are going through or have been through.

The mining mini-game such bad gameplay.  Apart from the fact that the mini-game is just tedious, it's also completely RNG so sometimes we get 4k rocks and sometimes 1k, and on top of that half the time is flat out doesn't work and gives no rocks.

Please fix the bugs, and re-work the gameplay so it's not so demoralising. I'm really getting fed up of logging in to just be disappointed by the randomness of it all.

Ideally, get rid of the mini game and the RNG completely - make calibrate a button you press to keep efficiency up and spawn surface rocks at 100% each time.

It's frustrating enough to make a profit the way things are atm, never mind farm enough ore to actually build something.

    - The previous manual mining system worked on positive reinforcement: time put in = amount of ore gained, and finding the ore was a predictable and rewarding mini-game.
    - Current mining unit is an RNG mini-game, that is time gated, and only rewards small amounts of ore (if it actually works!), which is more along the lines of negative reinforcement. It just annoys me every time I do it because it's not optimal, and no amount of extra effort/time can change that.

A real step backwards in core DU gameplay.

Yes it will be interesting.  Those of us who were building or providing services now have tax to pay and ore to sell.  Not sure how many players  who never used to sell ore will now be selling ore.  The changes in the economy be fun to watch.

These devs put their heart into this game and do not deserve to be ridiculed like this. Please reconsider how you frame your argument. Its fine to be critical of NQ itself, but these are people that deserve our respect. I have seen countless examples where they have gone above and beyond to advocate for the playerbase and fix issues on their own time.

Hate the game all you want, hate the company all you want, but please give the individual devs your support. They need it now more than ever.

So while I am unable to log in anyway, here my thoughts about Demeter so far:

-Mining units are fine for the most part, it would be nice if charge gain and calibration loss was both halved, just so that you dont have to log in every single day. We all know I will anyway, but the game shouldnt persuade you that hard.

-Headquarters are nice enough, it will just take a week or two for people to finally understand the concept "you still have to pay to have machines active, it is just immune to loss".

-I have noticed no difference regarding loading times or other benefits of the dirt reset, but plenty of other people are amazed they can now "VR someplace, or use scanners, like other people can". I wasnt even aware it was so shit for some others.

-Was still not able to find the "element overlapping" sign anywhere.

-But I do now have some weird bar across the minimap, even outside build mode, is that it? ?

-You got rid of mass info while flying, I liked checking my total cargo there, when I forgot to long to container or just have multiple hubs. This is not even in the patch notes, was it on purpose?

-I dont see updates on the updated roadmap.

-Not sure what rendering change there is to industry units, I had a good look when restart machines for 4 hours after the downtime, but they are still the same. And still show the wrong light colours and like to just get fucked all the time.

    -Force field change is nice.

-Underwater landing is even harder now, because water is muddier.

-Most of the "UI" polish is hard to judge without direct comparison, I really cant tell.

    -Space fuel XS, nice.
    -
Mining unit collision is massively bigger a few seconds after deploying. So if you place a few, you then have to rearrange them so they dont overlap.

-Added "view market page"! Hell yes, thx guys, I think most people didnt even notice this one yet.

-People who made DSATs had their 60M schematics turned into 3M schematics without compensation.

-People who owned DSATs, had their 16M items turned into a 1.7M item, with no compensation.
Instead of just introducing a new basic DSAT that only works on basic and common asteroids. Solving the same issue, but without fucking some people over.

-VR-mission change: There are two kinds of people (with some overlap) who do the big moneymaker missions.
Car-pool guys, where 20 people VR to one guy with a ship to take and turn in the mission.
Alt guys, where a guy and his 20 alts do the mission.
The car pool guys at least did something that, while imbalanceds in the game, was in theory available to everybody, you got rid of that. The Alt guys can continue unhindered. Why not use one of the working solutions?

    -Weapon changes: Nobody bloody cares.
I did the extremely hard math and found out that there are more engines in use than weapons, why not balance those for once? Just put pvp balancing on ice for now, it is a bottomless pit for dev time in some dirty shitcorner of the game most people dont visit anyway.

-Plenty of DC, lag, prolonged wait time, inability to log in, which I guess goes away in a day or two anyway.

Can you please hire a guy with the only job being to point out how something might be shit?  This game has issues, you come up with solutions, those solutions however often are flawed and turn out worse than the issue they try to fix. The dedicated "pointing out how this could be shit"-guy, would help.

I do not blame you.  I came back a couple of weeks ago after a 9 month break and I'm still trying to decide whether or not I wasted my money.  I'm treating the current situation as a challenge and see where that takes me.  When you say that the developers dont respect our time I agree.  I dont think its personal.  They have a job to do, which is implement their vision of the game.  The big problem they made for them selves (that really causes all the problems) was declaring beta.  They should have just launched but left it as alpha, because, well it is plainly alpha, I'm pretty sure the devs know its alpha and they are just treating us players the same way they would normally treat alpha players.  Its just that our expectations are that the game is beta, because, they told us it was beta.

Update: So I did the things recommended....

    - HQ'ed tiles I wanted to keep
    - Moved to Space
    - Tried going back to Sanctuary.
    - Reduced My Expectations
    - Even used a Beta Key to try restarting new...

I can no longer enjoy this game in the current state. There are jobs I have hated that were more exciting then the daily logins to Nanny your Mining Unit. Until the developers change the Mining Units or implement a new way to progress in the game there is no point in playing. I gave this update a try, I took all of the advice, and the progression rate which was already abysmal is now unbearable.

I love this community and the people in it, even those I disagree and fight with but I just can't DU it any longer. Not until they fix things, which is unlikely, cause they don't care if players leave.

    Original Post:
I will be taking an extended and potentially permanent break from DU.
If you see me log in, it will be to kick (calibrate) mining units, post a haul mission, and sell things so I don't lose tiles.

It is clear the developers don't respect the players or their time, and if the tax situation doesn't get fixed with the falling ore prices, no point in owning tiles to earn a little more than break even.

    Also Sanctuary sucks...

( will be placing everything of value on HQ tiles to ensure no one scalps my stuff.)

    1 statement and 1question
Statement:  Its a bit rich charging me 500,000 to put down a TU, then 3 days later charging me 1,000,000 tax  when all I want to do is remove the TU I placed in the wrong location   but I cant due to cooling off.  I guess I'll just abandon the units but it sucks.
Question:  How long is the current cooling off period for a TU.  I think its a week but not sure?

Yep.. just making things harder with nothing added and leaves me asking "why bother" when I log in and start something. Why gather ore? Why build that ship? Why build anything? just to pay tax?

DU has always had that identity crisis. Is it a sandbox builder? or a 4x space game? There is zero reason to build anything thats not a ship in DU outside of a player deciding to be creative. Why did I wrap my factory in a building? Because we thought it would be cool to have a city like thing going on for our org. We made runways, parking spots etc. There was zero point to do this other than our desire to make something look cool. Unfortunately, the sheer volume of work required turned it from a cool idea into a grinding misery to finish.

We set up on Thades, in large part to avoid the performance misery that is Alioth. Sadly there are no real tools in the game to make it easy / convienet for us to set that up as a hub of activity for other players to come to and do business. So I naturally ended up hauling most of our factory goods to alioth to sell because no one ever bothers to go shopping elsewhere unless forced like with schematics.

Which really goes back to my point, the gameworld is to big. There just is not any incentive for player to do anything but go to alioth markets to transact. Static markets will forever remain one of the things that prevents communities from evolving. If everyone who produced things could setup their wares on the searchable marketplace listings at least people could setup shops, which in turn would lead them to desire to 'pretty' up their shop space.

Anyway I am rambling at this point like we all do about what DU "could" be. The core point remains, the gameworld is vastly to big for the few hundred? players left actively playing? Heck I only resubbed because I needed to tear down my factory and store everything on a personal HQ tile so it doesn't get scavanged since out of the 300+ org members we have maybe 1 or 2 are ever bother to play anymore.

In general I agree with your points which is why I say it would work best with a wipe. Of course as soon as you say that , the diehards who think there will never be a wipe attack like your kidnapping their children.

That being said I also agree with your performance point, which is why I think static markets are a fail. Let players create markets which will more naturally spread players and movements around the planets. This is what I meant when I was referring to more tools for setting up markets etc.

So this was one of the awesome *NOT* nerfs a year ago in 0.23. There were some "abusing" this and instead of a sensible limitation so someone couldn't move a ship over a large distance, the limitation now hits those with scanning ships. We all complained but it doesnt seem this was ever adjusted since 0.23. Agreed it's a problem but it wont be adjusted since NQ already "fixed" it.

Since NQ have introduced timed payments will they be granting extended time after server shut downs.
Right now is a critical time for me and I guess some others too.

Devs need to disable taxes until this is fixed as it makes it impossible to pay them.

I guess they will make that decision when they are close to release.  If they have a large playerbase who is paying lots of money they will probably not wipe ( I acknowledge its unlikely).  However if the player base is small.  Then they might well go for a full wipe.  New players and players who started but never came back might get in knowing that the game is fixed and its a new start.  We probably cant unbreak the egg but I think most of us know the game is in Alpha and really my subscription is a donation.

The video was actually very helpful.  I will probably make a video on this soon.  So, the cone tool does not make any hotspot light up on the map (I thought anything in the cones arc would light up).  The cone will simply point towards the hot spot location, so its useful to put one in the middle initially as the direction of the cone will indicate which 3rd of the hex the hot spot is in.
