Majestic got a reaction from Megaddd in 11 Beginner Tips for August.
A lot of the same questions get asked in game chat and on discord so I thought I would put some frequent ones here while I'm waiting for some crafting to finish that are valid as of August 2020.  Feel free to call me out on any that are wrong. Hope they help.

    1. Do the beginner tutorial before venturing out. There are several items like the repair tool, Sanctuary Territory Unit and your first speeder that are picked up from this.

    2. You can restart the tutorial any time by visiting the start building and pressing the button again on the top floor, using the PageUp and PageDown keys moves the tutorial back or forward through the steps if you need to skip a part or retry one. Your current objectives, if they aren't on your screen and are still active can be found on your map at the bottom right.

    3. On Alioth(The planet you start on) there are teleporters that you can use to move between districts. Pay attention to which one you started on, it's on the wall behind the teleport pads. At the end of the tutorial you move to the Sanctuary moon and each district has a Shuttle that will take you to different parts of the moon, you may end up the other side of the planet from a home you may have started otherwise.

    4. Avoid the Institute tutorials for the moment. Right now they have a lot of issues as it's Beta. Common problems will be inventory disappearing, re-logging to find yourself floating in space and ending up miles away from your base. If you end up in space, log on to discord and ask one of the NQ staff to teleport you back. Discord can be found under the community tab here https://www.dualuniverse.game/.

    5. All building requires you to have a territory to build on and everything starts with a core. A dynamic core is for ships/vehicles and a static core is for buildings. You place those first then add to them.

    6. To PM someone in game it's the same as other MMO's which is /w name.

    7. To find your speeder among a sea of other vehicles open your map with either M or F4, select constructs and set destination. This will pinpoint your vehicle.

    8. ALT is the universal opposite function button, to pick something up its Alt + the deploy tool, to fill in a hole you've dug it's Alt + the mine tool(with the material equipped) etc.

    9. Some useful keys  - E changes the shape of the build tool.
CTRL + scroll changes the size of a build/mining tool.
                                            R flips an item.
                                            R+ scroll rotates an item.
Alt + V brings up a menu to change what names are on your screen.
Mouse Scroll is your throttle on your speeder.
Alt + Z is auto run.

    10. To work with a specific material it needs to be equipped, open your inventory, right click the material and hit equip. If you have declared a container as linked(making it the default container materials are taken out of when building or put into when mining) then the material your using needs to be in there after you have equipped it.

    11. 'Pending Operation' Is lag, give it a chance to catch up.

To use as markers in tunnels we make while mining. Flares, so they expire and don't end up littering the landscape.  Also with the ability to be dropped on our territory but not being attached to a core.
    Different Colours.
    Editable duration.
Equip in quick access slot and hit F to drop one.
    Craftable early on.

I think large Orgs will be able to decide for themselves how the land is distributed or used.  But it's been said before, it's possible to play this game solo so we would probably be able to trade for a TU eventually.  The issue will be getting the prime locations, which will take time to establish themselves.

I definitely don't want rain and cloud effects coming through walls into an enclosed space i've built.

Actually there isn't anything to relate the distance travelled to the 10,000 years in cyro. While v. unlikely, there is nothing to say we didn't travel a few centuries at FTL and then the AI waited 10,000 years for lulz.
All in all - yes - our Alioth could certainly be THE Alioth - (Epsilon Ursae Majoris).

    BUT!!!!

The planet is named Alioth. There is no mention of the star's name, so in reality it's more likely "a star" , which has a planet in it's system which has been designated Alioth. (Possibly by a Debian loving NQ dev?)

A craftable repair station you can set permissions on for your TU. Allow any user to repair their ships there at a price set by the station owner, its then down to the owner to make sure the station is fed with enough resources to keep the customers coming.  Could specialize in certain difficult/expensive repairs.

I like this idea, or instead of voting for the name, you could just make it really expensive to rename a planet, that would deter alot of bad names.

To be fair I think the only person that should have the right to rename a planet would be the person that initially discovered it.  Maybe some kind of token as proof of discovery, maybe an option to sell the token on the market.

That way at least if you can't afford to rename it you can hold onto the option until you can.  It would avoid having only the biggest Orgs being able to rename planets.  Until the token is used the planet keeps its procedural name.

Majestic reacted to Ripper in Here's an idea - Google Translate Element
With everyone playing a single shard universe, there's going to be instances where there's a language barrier.

Piggybacking off of the earlier ideas of allowing external content to be displayed on a screen, I thought "why not allow Google Translate"?

It's not perfect, but it would allow everyone to get a basic understanding from a conversation.

Or possibly incorporate it into your standard Comm interface.

I think if you let people name the planets it would be a disaster.  You would need an army of staff to regulate the ridiculous names that would appear, not to mention the offensive titles.  'Now Orbiting planet 'Super Awesome Turbo Rocket Cool Place''

With craft being such a huge part of the game, are there any thoughts on things like animated signs as elements, that you could edit to show different vehicles/wares your selling.  Or will this purely be done in a standard market interface and a big list of items/prices?

I think NQ should have a repository of hundreds of potential names. Let the person who discovers it pick from the list of names, or allow them to input a suggestion and have NQ approve it.

Majestic reacted to ostris in Poll : G forces, should they have an effect on a ship's pilot/crew?
I vote no. Seems a bit too complex for far to little payoff. Most of the problems like, ships accelerating too fast and turn speed can be handled by the engine and thruster mechanics and fuel consumption. I do not think this problem will need an additional system of injuring the player or ship.

Not to mention with all the technologies that seem to be available in the game, nano compressing weight and items, artificial gravity and whatever other crazy technologies in the game this seems like a problem that could be easily solved.

If this was a flight sim style game. A game that was 99% about building a ship and flying it with an ultra realistic feel to it, I would be all for it. In dual universe with all the other things to do in the game and the combat not really about dog fighting or ultra realistic flight. I just don't see the pick up in spending time on a system like this.

    SilverLight Industries

Founded as SilverLight Research by the United Nations in 2055 as a way to pool the research capabilities of many smaller companies into something that could assist with developing advanced Arkship technology, they were one of the few companies and organizations that could possibly compete with the globally powerful Nexus Corporation on a technological basis. Eventually, SilverLight expanded to include many other industries such as extraterrestrial mining and Arkship construction, assisting the U.N.’s Ark program through multiple facets of the project. However, the core project and top priority of SilverLight remained the artificial intelligence systems that would run the Arkships and assist humanity when they arrived on their new homeworld, Alioth. Soon after the last of the Arkships was completed, the U.N. shocked millions when it announced that Arkship resources were scarce, and that it would utilize an “artificial genetic selection algorithm” to decide who would live and who would perish in the oncoming apocalypse. Naturally, an uproar rose up, and riots and violent protests ravaged the streets of Earth in its last days. Recognizing that this was planned long before the Arkships’ completion, the Nexus Corporation, in cooperation with SilverLight and various other organizations, launched its own retaliation: “Project Cinderfall”. With SilverLight’s artificially intelligent algorithm development combined with Nexus Corp’s networking capabilities, Project Cinderfall circumvented the U.N.’s originally biased selection algorithm, allowing a much larger and more diverse population, including many members of SilverLight, to make it aboard the Arkships and into the rebirth of humanity in the age of Alioth.

People who just want to build in peace and do some mining will be able to do so in the ark areas. I suspect a lot of early game orgs will have there HQs in the ark areas but their operations out in the world until travel times get too excessive to justify going back and forth.

I just hope what happens on long lived multiplayer minecraft servers that the spawn area becomes a strip mined wasteland or an abandoned city of derelict houses doesn't happen to DU.
