    Hello, KhittyKhatt.

I will advise you not to make this an issue on the Dual Universe Forums. We have dwelt in peace for well over a year (getting close to two, actually) without any strife from any sexual orientation or religious factions. Be a darling and keep it that way, will you?

Kael is not a rash person and from what I've seen and heard from you, it's not unlikely that you are overreacting. To be straight with you, you are overreacting. Kael's post was neither discrimination nor bigotry and is well in line with the Forum rules.

We all appreciate the occasional intense discussion, but this path leads us nowhere but barking up the wrong tree. Real life issues belong in the DM or off the Forums - not on it.

Calling names is not a sign of maturity either and I will humbly but in all seriousness tell you to sort your issues out with him privately.

Kael, let's calm down a bit, shall we? There are worse things out there, but I understand your point completely.

    Cheers.

ForlornFoe reacted to yamamushi in In game rule enforcement/censorship. Good/Bad?
It's an interesting question because I think intent matters.

If someone from India is building a temple in-game, the Swastika symbol doesn't really mean the same thing as some random trolls using it to aggravate other players.

However, despite what we'd like, I don't think any of us can really convince NQ not to have to take action against things like that, simply because of the rather strict "hate speech" laws in France: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech_by_country#France

Those of us in America tend to take our Freedom of Speech for granted, but the laissez-faire attitude towards speech isn't really the way most other countries handle it.

My personal belief is that the game should be free from censorship, but the reality of the situation is that NQ will most definitely have to censor some things regardless of how they feel about it personally too.

ForlornFoe reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Obscured Stretch Goal Guessing
    Hi everyone!

To end (sadly) this mystery, the obscured stretch goal was something we planned to have before deciding to stop the stretch goals at the bounty system.
The reason behind this decision: we want to avoid the feature creep trap, which generally delays a lot the official release of crowdfunded games.
That doesn't mean we are going to cancel the obscured stretch goal. It's just it won't be implemented for the Official release, and it will just be part of one of the free expansions we will work on after the Official Release. We have a lot of unrevealed stretch goals in the pipeline so you can expect, if all goes well, many expansions in the coming years after the Official Release!

Sidenote: the obscured stretch goal is going to disappear with the updated picture of the stretch goals (coming today) on the Crowdfunding Portal.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Personally, if they do anymore stretch goals I think they should be sort of backer reward things. Things like: but 750000 and everyone who backed gets a special avatar skin or new blueprint for a simple ship or something. Maybe hit a million and all the backers get a free DAC or something.

Stuff that isn't going to take a lot of dev time (to avoid the game getting stuck in perpetual crowd funding) but are still cool and reward those who have backed the game.

ForlornFoe reacted to yamamushi in Dancing Animation Influences
It's probably not worth asking for Dance Animations/Emotes because almost every MMO has them in some shape or form. So I'm just going to assume here that emotes for dancing will exist in some fashion in DU, especially because we can already see some emotes being used in the footage we've seen so far (hand waving being the main example I'm thinking of).

In WoW the dance animations are unique per player race, and each of them comes from a specific influence:

I would like to know what style of dancing animations we'll see for our characters, or rather what the influences will derive from.

Will we see more Disco-Style Dancing? Salsa Style? Baroque Dance? Something generic like doing the Macarena?

I won't link examples of every game out there that has dancing, suffice to say a google search for "<insert game name here> dancing" will probably return plenty of content.

Welcome to the community, you are not alone in being more experienced in RTS than MMO games. NQ will let us know beforehand when this current pledging campaign ends, after that the pledge options might very well change.

There is still plenty of time to fit into the community, go at your own pace. I will list some community-related links to places I personally think as useful, maybe they will be of use. Or you can just ignore them, which is usually smart when dealing with unknown links. Regardless, a good day to you.

I don't want to get into all the specifics of -why- there are two subreddit, suffice to say that /r/dualthegame is the one that the Devs said they would use.

The guy running the other one has been banning anyone who mentions /r/dualthegame, which kind of goes to show how he really feels about the Devs and the community.

    I promise I won't be a killjoy here, but...why is this necessary?

According to the lore, everyone came from the Arkship, no? Binding player initial spawn points to the organisation's HQ or Res node will, to a degree, hamper the social interaction.

It's one thing to limit the interaction of your members with the outside world, and another thing entirely if your focus is for the ease of the players. Players should be the ones to make the journey to your HQ, or, if you will, just place a res node at the Arkship area, or a star gate...or an outpost. When there's a need, it's wonderful to innovate something to fill that need.

But, your suggested method needs some more explanation in my opinion. Why is this necessary for everyone? What problem do you hope to solve? Is this how it should be solved? Is this the best way to resolve it, and why do you think so?

    Cheers.

ForlornFoe reacted to Lord_Void in What are the actual chances of this game being any good?
It's reasonable to have doubts, as it is a pre-alpha game that is still months away from it's Alpha. That being said, NQ has always been extremely open about what will and will not be in the game and the current state of the game. They have shown plenty of gameplay from their current version and have never censored bugs. They have frequent Q&A sessions with the community and are active in interacting with the community.

I would recommend watching the dev diaries and reading the various Q&As.

And, if you search for similar threads as this one, you can see that they always told us what DU will be about and what mechanics are not implemented. Those "we will not do this, because...." answers are the reason I believe them

I think a healthy level of skepticism is perfectly fine to have. However, i would just say to make sure to educate yourself on the game as well. Saying things like there are tons of these games on steam to me seems misinformed. While there are several space survival games, none of them are mmos, most are single players with multiplayer added later, many run on a traditional server solution at no monthly cost to the player, and many are using the wrong technology/solution because of the reasons listed. Space engineers is a great example of this.

As far as performance goes I know some of the interviews were done with footage from JC's laptop that was also hosting the server as twerk mentioned. When i look at this game i do not have a lot of concerns about the technical plausibility of the game. I know most/all of what they are claiming is possible. My only concern is if its financially a good investment for NQ. That is why i was happy to hear about the monthly fee for this game. if they had said it would be f2p I probably would have called BS on their claims.

Mostly I think if this game does not do well it will be because of:
Game play design or loops not feeling fulfilling
Missing the mark on difficulty to reward or speed(takes 10 years to gather enough to build a ship)
Lack of pvp balance with the vast amount of freedom of ship building and game world modification
Or as i mentioned before the game not being financially viable with the tech claims made

Hi Bleep_Bloop and welcome to our forum.

Not sure if this is the best way to introduce yourself in a positive way, but that's your choice.
We know our project is ambitious and we don't force anyone to believe the Novaquark team on words alone. We communicate as much as possible on the game development, we show what we can show. We do our best to avoid overpromising things (we stick to what seems to be technically feasible to us) and we try to be as transparent as possible in the development process, then it's up to the players to make their own opinion.

If you have a hard time to imagine how a game can contain many planets without being extremely unstable, keep in mind that the game world won't be hosted on just one single hardware server, but hosted on a server cluster.

    we suggest to look at:
    - This page on our website describing the "single shard" technology: http://www.dualthegame.com/technology
    - This devblog post: https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2014/09/26/a-single-shard-continuous-universe-one-world-no-boundaries/
    - This video explaining visually how the game world is splitted in real time across many servers to keep a global stability and handle the workload proportionally to the number of players gathering in specific areas:

After that, if you still have questions, feel free to ask.

    About Brian Fargo:
You might not like the games delivered by his studio (maybe they don't suit your tastes) but they have been successful and the numbers disagree with your opinion. The fact that you don't like them doesn't mean they are bad. Beside, it would make no sense to compare Wasteland 2/Torment: Tides of Numenera with Dual Universe as they are two completely different types of games (the first ones are rpg solo games with deep storyteling designed by developers in 3D isometric view, the other one is a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG Sandbox in first person view where the story is made by players).

    Best Regards,

The brilliant GDC pitch episode and the following IGN interview put Dual Universe into an even more public light. To this reniewed exposition, we owe the "hateful" comments on the IGN Youtube video page: the visibility upgrade attracted more, new viewers, each with his preconceptions on game development, hence the abrupt fallacies about P2P model, NMS-AntiHype or Space Engineer Looking-Alike.

    Again.

ForlornFoe reacted to Hotwingz in Water, Pledges, Connectivity, and Painting Elements!
Hi there, those are some questions.
I'll do my best to answer them and I'm sure other people will add to it.

Water: Water at the moment is a static block. No flow mechanics, traveling under water seems to not work right now. Maybe a hovercraft can travel over it. Building on water is also not possible right now. At least thats what I understood and I could be wrong.

Connectivity and Pledges: Since the server tech uses distributed load I can imagine there wont be just 1 connection to europe. I suspect DU will run between several server clusters around the world. In that scenario you would connect to the closest to your location. Again this is from my understanding the technology behind DU.

After this pledge portal we will get 2 more portals. You will be able to increase your pledge at any given time up until release.

Painting elements: This will not be possible I think. Elements are static mesh models with a predefined art style. This leads me to speculate you wont be able to paint them. But I could be wrong, NQ does seem to provide as much creative freedom as possible. So maybe this will be a to be announced feature.

    I hope this helps you.

Anyone, feel free to correct me if needed.

To elaborate a bit more on what Falstaf already said:

In the Rules&Announcement subgroup you'll find all three AMA (ask me anything) threads. Read them, they answer A lot of questions.

    Water
No flowing water for release but (as answered in the AMA event) they think about underwater bases and stuff.

    Pledges
There is plenty of time for pledging left, although the rewards might be less later on.

    Servers
DU is based upon cloud servers, so you will connect to the nearest one. No problem for pings.

    Painting
You can paint voxels so far, shown in the ship building video. But afaik you can't build elements with different color.

Welcome to the forum and have fun reading all the deven blogs, watching the videos and using the search function (pretty please - this advice has nothing to do with this post here which is perfectly fine)

    Good morning people o/

I'd like to introduce myself and the organization i plan to run.

My name is puzzleBoX and im an avid gamer. Ive been playing games on PC and consoles since Sega Master Systems 2 was a thing. Today im more of a PC player tho. I had a laptop once with 512 kb ram and a 20mb harddrive, Tetris never looked more alive on a 3 color display screen. But enough about me.

To me a melt between minecraft and EVE online is something ive always wanted. The big scope of EVE and the creativeness of minecraft is just a recipe for success imho. Atleast it should give us some very interesting gameplay.

For my ogranization The Gecko Group or just Gecko Group, i plan to run it a bit like how Caldari state is in EVE Online (FIRE ZE MISSILES, jk)
Its more of a series of corporations in each their sector working together as whole where you can as a single player move around in the different organization doing different things, be it PvP, PvE, industry and so on depending on what you llke that day.
The only requirements we have is that you take up arms if the need should arise and dont be a dick.
Manifesto, Charter and guidelines are for later.

It wont be a hardcore only org but we do like dedicated players.

Our philosphy is "Si vis pacem, para bellum." Which means "If you want peace, prepare for war". A strong army/navy is a must(especially looking at some of the other orgs out there) but doesnt mean we are warmongers. We are here for the profit and fun for all our members.

If you have questions or wanna say hi or an interest in joining the org drop a msg here in this thread or here https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/the-gecko-group

Actually it's more like 10-13€ for a sub and around 18€ for a DAC.

Yes DU is a subsription game, you have to pay per month in order to play
    No they won't change that
Yes you CAN play for free (with DAC - like EVEs PLEX). Earn enough ingame money, find someone who sells DACs for ingame money, buy DAC with ingame money, use DAC and play 1 month. Next month: rinse and repeat

ForlornFoe reacted to Lord_Void in When will the ToS to ban dual boxers be added?
People are worried about multi-boxing, but I don't think it is really an issue in a game like Dual Universe. To be specific: Multi-boxing refers to having two or more characters logged into the game at the same time, not having multiple characters/accounts in general.

Multi-boxing gives people an advantage in EVE because most things in EVE are "timer based" in the sense that you don't really have to do much to keep things going. One person can run a fleet of 20 mining accounts all by them selves because they don't really have to do anything with each account other than tell them what to aim their mining lasers at. Likewise with combat, a person dual-boxing L4s can just have their support ship drop drones or cap-tanked so they don't really have to touch it. In DU, neither of those things will be possible because both mining and combat require active player input in order to work. There are only really two reasons I can thing of in order to multi-box: monitoring multiple markets or possibly scanning (maybe, and that may not be beneficial depending on the exact nature of scanning mechanics). Neither of those give an unfair advantage to the multi-boxer.

It is important to note that botting should definitely be banned. If a person is running multiple accounts at the same time (for whatever reason) they should have to control them all by hand and individually. That alone should get rid of any issues pertaining to multi-boxing.
