Atmosph3rik reacted to Stupidolphin in THIS is what I WANTED
So after watching several game play videos of No Man Sky, I was VERY disappointed and angry at the developers. They basically lied about half of the features and now I find out you can't build the ships as well........
So then I saw a video comparing similar games which led me here... and wow, YES this is what I wanted! Multiplayer, single universe, voxel based custom ships and exploration on a huge scale
Just make sure you don't go back on any of this content Dev's, I think NoManSky will fall off the hype train as soon as people realise everything is the same, just with a different skin and get bored real fast.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Jett_Quasar in Physics
Any game that includes space battles can't use entirely real world physics and still be fun to play. For ground and air combat, the physics could be quite realistic, but when it comes to space, there needs to be some sort of compensation in order to keep things in control. I believe the best way to achieve this is by doing space battle physics similar to how it's done in Star Citizen and Elite. The ship has inertial dampeners that can make it fly in a vacuum the same way it would fly in atmosphere. This doesn't necessarily go against the laws of physics, it just uses thrusters that are way more powerful than could be normally achieved (that would also be the case for FTL drives).

Atmosph3rik reacted to nietoperek in Graphical programming - easier scripting for newbies?
I fully second Kiklix statement. And I can even add that only real soldiers should have permission to do PvP. And only real-life pilots will be allowed to operate starships, because random player can do lot of damage by flying without proper training.
Maybe even devs should create some sort of authentication/license system to be sure that any filthy casual do not do any unregulated stuff IN GAME?!!
Think of the children!
PS: Maybe even posting on forum should be allowed only after extensive psychological screening and series of oral/writing exams? It will drastically rise quality of forum content, I am sure

I disagree. By your logic we should then only allow building to the real life designers. Why should coders get preferential treatment, especially when they will be a smaller portion of the player base. It seems unfair and illogical to cater to one......ohh wait.
Actually no, you are right. I absolutely agree that only real life coders should be able to script ships, and just so that I am not a hypocrite I also suggest that only people with design degrees should make stuff in game. After all, I don't want to have to look or work with terribly designed voxel creations.
If you don't know how to design, find someone who does and pay them to do the work you need done, or learn how to design yourself.
(note to the laymen: Good design does not mean just pretty. Good design is the perfect marriage of aesthetics and function and just because you can lay down a voxel does not make you a designer.) /sarcoff

EASY THERE PAL. I resemble your statement and let me be perfectly clear, your atmosphere and by extension the air under it taste like what you earthlings refer to as "dog poop".
It's not always easy to keep a clear head on your planet. That is why we sometimes abduct humans instead of cows...worthless humans.

It is perfectly clear. We are visited by some kind of extraterrestrial alien lifeform, and it try to communicate with us. But due to heavy pollution of Earth atmosphere, signals come somewhat distorted and obfuscate.

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Bella_Astrum in Dual Universe (DU): Computer Exclusive
Because it wasn't in 18 point font i actually read Captain's entire post. And i hate to say it but i agree.
Some games work great on a console. But this definitely isn't one of those games. Games that are designed to play on a console are a lot of fun to play and i prefer a controller for some games. But a game like Dual is going to require more then just a controller.
And also like mr twerkmotor said, finding a setup that works for you makes a huge difference.
I highly recommend a fancy mouse like a Razor Naga with the 12 button thumb pad.
When you have a mouse and keyboard that you are used to, there is really no better interface. At least until we can control the games with our mind...

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Antioch in Component elements (building with smaller parts)
I think he is talking about snapping together smaller mesh elements into one larger functioning element. So voxels wouldn't need to be involved. I think this is a great idea. It would allow for a bit more personalization from ship to ship, in terms of performance and appearance. -

What's up everyone. I guess it's about time i write up a little introduction here too. It is seriously awesome how fast this organization has grown. And damn do we all have the coolest forum banners or what. Thanks Kiklix!
Some of you already know me from Landmark. So hello to all my fellow Landmark refugees! and also a big hello to all the people coming from other games too!
So ahh about me, my main interest in Dual is the voxel building. I'm a huge fan of modern architecture and a lot of my building inspiration comes from a childish desire to actually get to live in a house like Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater or the house from the movie Oblivion, which was the inspiration for the Landmark build in my signature.
A lot of what i do is inspired by other people and purely for my own amusement. But occasionally i may manage to crank out something i would call original, and if i do i plan to sell and trade those creations under my personal brand ATMOCORP.
ATMOCORP's goal is to bring a bit of luxury and class to the world of planetary exploration and colonization. Just because your house requires a proximity force field for protection doesn't mean it can't also have an infinity pool.

Atmosph3rik reacted to CharlesAugustus in The Morrigan Consortium
The Morrigan Consortium -
What are we?
We are an Organisation of like minded creative individuals such as scientists, engineers who believe the future lies in technological advancement.
What is our focus?
Our initial focus is mining for resources and to design functional and advanced star ships of all types, both military and civilian but our long term focus is Technological advancement of the human race.
Is the Morrigan Consortium a Civilian or Military organisation?
We are mainly a Civilian company but we do have a Militaristic side.
I heard your factions wishes to stay neutral is it true?
Yes and no, there's an emphasis on 'wishes' but we will stick by any and all allies we may have should they be attacked or declared war on.
But considering we also design Warships we will need a way to test them in combat, We will not aggravate others to start a war though.
Whats the ranking system within the Consortium like?
Considering we have two sections within the Consortium (Military and Civilian) we have two different rank structures but they both report to the Consortium Head.
Miner
/
Executives {
/ \
Consortium Head { Designers --> Engineers
\
Rear Admiral --> Commodore --> Captain --> Lieutenant --> Crewmen
I know that the Consortium Head is the leader but who is the current head?
The Current Consortium Head is Charles Augustus.
Who are your allies?
Currently we are a member of the Coalition of Pirates and Smugglers. (COPS)
Why would i join the Morrigan Consortium?
If you like designing ships or even building them we do a lot of that so that's a good reason why.
We also do a bit of mining for players who are interested in gathering resources, the lifeblood in this new age.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Dhara in XBOX ONE OR XBOX SCORPIO PLEASE?!?!
I just don't know how building would work on a console either. I don't mind if they want to make a different console version separate from the pc version, but please don't screw up the interface and bypass my keyboard so I can still play it on my pc.

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Kairos in Light Propulsion
While it's fun for game mechanics to have a basis in scientific reality i'm a lot more concerned with whether they make a game more fun and unique.
All it takes is a little creative thinking and literally anything can be justified with theoretical science. Just take a look at the lore we have so far.
I can't remember where i saw this but i remember watching some show or movie where ships were attaching to a beam of energy to travel at a high speed. Anyway it looked very cool.
Some kind of fast travel based on attaching to or traveling inside a beam of energy might be a way for smaller or slower ships to travel between systems. Like highways for ships that can't handle FTL travel.

Wait you can like your own posts? I like that, or at least i think i do.
I'll have to hit post first to see if i have enough left.

Yep!
Seriously though, I only liked that one to have fun in this thread, I don't typically like my own posts (although I agree with my posts 100%, 100% of the time and therefore do in fact like them).

Atmosph3rik reacted to Kairos in Light Propulsion
A recent theory circulating around the scientific community in regards to space travel is the use of light as a propulsion method to reach great speeds (around 30% the speed of light). What if in-game we could create light/laser stations to propel lightweight space crafts within a closed system of planets. This could create a kind of interplanetary highway if you will and be a method of transportation while subsequently becoming the centerpiece of the economy within a planetary system.

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from Ghoster in New gameplay footage!
Really excited to get a bit more of a peak at the building tools in action!
Pretty disappointed in IGN though. The title of the article is literally just "No Man's Sky Style game" and they never even bothered to tweet the article because they're too busy tweeting Dos Equis ads and pics of Gary Busy.
