Up until now snapshots haven't really mattered unless your ship was getting shot at.  But it sounds like they are going to matter more now.  Could we get a bit more info on snapshots?

I know that i can take a manual snapshot from the context menu in build mode.  And i think a new snapshot is taken every time you leave build mode.  But i also get a message saying that the snapshot failed sometimes.

If i enter build mode on my ship, while it has damaged elements, will they be saved in the snapshot and no longer be able to be repaired by the maintenance unit?

Maybe i'm misunderstanding something, but that doesn't sound ideal.

Personally, i think an intelligent person would see the obvious danger in leaving the cover off a manhole and focus on solving the simple problem.   Rather than patting themselves on the back for not falling into it themselves.

A truly intelligent person would be confident enough in their own intelligence that they wouldn't want to set other people up for failure just to make themselves feel a bit smarter.

Eh, I don't have any respect for this idea that scam victims deserve what they get for being "dumb", especially in real life.

It is not a matter of "paying attention". Which...speaking of paying attention, it's "good riddance", not "good riddens".

I hope you don't take offense to this correction -- after all, you're the one that thinks it's okay to punish people for being "dumb". 🤷‍♂️

I don't know where you are in your life to believe that scam victims just aren't paying attention, but this attitude strikes me as naive and heartless.

Ignorance is not stupidity (not knowing how to spell good riddance is not stupidity, it's ignorance) and even if it were...being stupid doesn't justify jack shit, because being intelligent isn't something you've earned in any real sense. Some people have disabilities, some haven't had an opportunity to get a quality education, and some are just trusting or ignorant.

What sort of attitude is this, anyway...? For a game with few players to be like "let's celebrate dumb people quitting" is...well, good luck with that.

That's the OP's point...if DU wants to retain new players, it needs to focus on easy wins like this to improve UX across the board.

I'm probably not explaining myself very well here.  So let me try this a different way.  Just to be clear i have no issue with "AI" in general.  It's just a computer program.  They're great.  I'm a fan.

But the way the term is being used recently in the industry just sounds like hype.

Let's say you went to eat at a restaurant that specializes in hamburgers and french fries.  And they have a huge sign on the wall bragging about how they are switching from fresh cut fries to mass produced frozen fries.  As if i'm supposed to be excited about that...

As a consumer i don't see anything to be excited about.

And when i hear a game company talking about AI as if it's a direction for the company to go in, that means nothing to me.

PSST, you dont have to play the mini game.  And you can skip allot of the transitions by clicking the box.  Then once you click Start quickly press ESC.  This will exit out of the mini game without a confirmation window appearing.  It will increase your calibration percent by 35%. (no bonus ore).  This can be done in VR every 5 days. Basically allowing 1 person to calibrate 34 MU's every 5 days. With a couple hour grace period.
will try and get a screen shot tomorrow when I do callibrations. but you can see the hotspots under the edge without surveying.

    Good stuff!

I just wanted to add my voice to what @Hagbard said above about the Fuel Intake Changes.

That sounds great but what we really need is something that works like a container HUB, for fuel tanks.  So we can link multiple tanks and display them as one tank in the HUD.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Hagbard in DUAL UNIVERSE: WHAT'S COMING NEXT
i would suggest to reconsider the "for a single fuel tank"  bit.
a problem that all advanced Flight Huds have is the number of links on the control units. mainly the fuel tanks are the limiting factor, as whenever you have a bigger number of fuel tanks, those consume so many links, that we are unable to link all elements needed to control the ship to a single seat.  there are some workarounds in place, like not linking the fuel tanks and going via core and talent levels to try to get the correct amount of fuel in each of the fuel containers. but this is painful, difficult and honestly nothing we should have to do.

Just implement this change as a fuel "hub" allowing 10 fuel containers per fuel type to be accessed via one link and the problem would be solved, and wouldn't cause a risk, like increasing the general number of allowed links might do.

Atmosph3rik got a reaction from huschhusch in NQ, why is element obstruction so unpredictable?
All i really want is some clarity.  If i knew that they were planning to fix it, or not planning to fix it, then i would move on.

But when something makes playing the game this frustrating, I start to wonder if maybe I haven't made enough noise.   Maybe NQ doesn't even know about it.

And when I eventually end up on the forums, it's usually when a bug/feature has pissed me off enough that it motivates me to come make another post about it.  Which doesn't usually lead to the most politely worded or "balanced" feedback.

I can accept a yes or no answer.  What's hard to accept is not knowing whether NQ is even aware of an issue.

This has been an issue since day one.

I've definitely experienced this before, many times.  Coming in for a landing, going about 500kph, and decelerating, holding the brakes.  And without releasing the brakes, suddenly your speed starts to increase.  I've started taping the brakes when this happens, and usually they seem to kick back in a second or two later.  But sometimes that few seconds of no brakes is enough to cause a crash, or at least a rough landing.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Peregrin in Do you think Dual Universe is good sci-fi?
You're actually correct: this gift from Damasio (who is indeed something of a big shot in the french sci-fi litterature scene) was part of the "JC Legend", of that "vision" that was both Novaquark's strongest driving force and their most crippling factor back in the day, from 2014 to 2021. It all dissipated away when JC was kicked from his own project by a cabal of his investors, people with a more... pragmatic and money-centered mind.

I won't say that was entirely a bad thing, but I'd like to see the likes of Granatino or Abboud try to bring Damasio back in for free, see how that works out for them...

I remember a video of a french sci-fi/ gaming conference from the pre-KS time, when JC showmanned conventions to promote NQ and DU; at the end of his speech came questions and someone in the audience noted that having Alain Damasio on board was quite amazing and asked JC how he did it, and JC casually answered: "Well I just asked him, and he said 'yes'".

We, as a community, and NQ, as creators of a universe, lost... something along the way. But I'm still confident we can somehow find it back. And the lore is part of it.

Atmosph3rik reacted to Zeddrick in Overlapping element detection is still not working
I think this is the third time I've posted about this and now I'm really annoyed about it.  I have a ship which has been working for a long time.  It's a diligence without any modifications (besides those made by a very enthusiastic ally when I entered the PvP zone).  It certainly doesn't have any Janko'ed elements.

So today I get into the ship (which worked when I landed it) and have no error messages, but mysteriously the space engines don't work.  Try to land again but some of the brakes don't work either and this is when I find out.  Boom.  Rep a bunch of things.  Run out of the lunch break I was playing in but have to keep going or my packages will expire.  I'm sure work won't mind if I just play a broken video game some more.  Eventually I try again, try lots of things like resetting cache, using a different chair, etc but nothing is working.  Ask for help in the help channel.  There are some pretty nice and helpful players in there who tell me there are no GMs and I'm basically SOL.  I land without crashing this time (because I'm expecting it).  Now we're well over an hour into my quick 15 minute 'set it flying' play session.

Then I go into build mode and then, and only then, do I get the message "some of your elements are colliding and have been deactivated".  FFS really?  How long have we had this 'feature' and how hard is it to get this stuff right on a ship which has never had any janko'ed elements and is basically a design from the start of beta that has been working ever since.

Seriously NQ. DU was never perfect, but this is a lot worse than it used to be.  Things like this really spoil the experience for people who are just trying to play the game and seem like overkill compared with the small problem of cheating by element stacking.

    Hi

Since we (The Prospectors) are being discussed on the Talemai claiming I felt it necessary to give a little insight into what actually happened.

This is our game loop and has been since the start of Beta.
We specialise in scanning and run an Auction House off the back of scan results allowing players to buy/sell hex data

We have been prepping for a new planet since launch and are prepping for the next planets.

Our team was 10-12 Players with 18 Scanners each and scanned majority of the planet in around 12 hours.
In beta we had ~100k scans and had mapped most of ION (every single hex)

The ore distribution from single megas in a hex to blobs of ore for mining units changed scanning forever.
You no long need to scan every hex.

There is no cheating, there is just super organised players working together for a common goal.

We opened our doors in Beta and had over 120 players mining for us.
Those doors remain open and you are all more than welcome to come and join then fun of scanning, calibrating and hex management.

Get in touch with me on discord (ZeroPainZeroGain) if you want to play with us on the next planet

    Thanks

    The answer is Yes.

You would receive 20 DAC (Dual Access Coupon) with your Gold Founders Pack.  Which would give you 20 months of game time.  You just have to log into the official DU site and redeem one of your DAC.

You also had several years of free game time during Pre-Alpha, Alpha, and Beta.

I think it's important to remember that the people making the game, the people actually working on the game, want to do a great job, and i'm sure they're trying to do a great job, and they're also at work, trying to make a living, and they truly don't deserve any form of abuse.  Ever.

BUT i think it's also important to make sure that upper management knows, when they make uninformed, poorly thought-out, profit driven decisions, they are in danger of failing to produce the product that we are all here to buy from them.

And if they want to produce that product, and they want us to buy it, they need to actually know what it is.  And care whether it's as good as it could be.

I played Everquest back then, and you could create custom chat windows, send different types of messages to different windows.  Private messages would open in a popup window.  You could customize the text color so you could tell important messages from less important ones.  You could even send links to items in chat, so someone else could click the link and see the full description of the item.

It took them a few years to make all of those improvements.  But they recognized that allowing players to communicate with each other in the game, was vital.

When you see another player in DU it feels like you're on opposite sides of soundproof glass, and all you can do is wave at each other and hop around hoping to get their attention, so maybe they will switch to the right chat channel and possibly see what you are saying to them.

I think DU needs a parking system like Elite: Dangerous.  You request docking permission.  And then you have 30seconds to park perfectly inside your designated spot, or the station opens fire on your ship.

Or the easiest solution would be for people to use their brains when they park, and don't pin someone else's ship to the platform.  But i suppose that's asking too much.
