  1. indeed. in another game i play which is fantasy based, i have several accounts for doing group activities. i do this cause my play time can be restrictive, and waiting to fill a group to do an activity took too much of my time. by having my own "group" i got to spend my time figuring out to complete the activities by myself. they were not designed to be done the way i do them. this is way more fun than waiting my play time away. and like i stated above, being able to accomplish more than one task at the same time can also be fun, and saves time. though in eve mining is boring and does not require lots of attention, it can be easy to run another account to haul stuff, or do some other activity which requires a bit more attention. i haven't yet read what all the potential activities for DU will be and perhaps there won't be any that require less or more attention than others. i have played and enjoyed a few games where it would just be a waste of my money to have more than one account. i will keep reading and see what i can find, await further information.
  2. as i am new here i don't expect to have my opinions placed highly by the devs, or my fellow forum posters. voxelmorph sounds much more Sci-fi than fantacy compared to voxelmancy. i also like the more generic terms suggested by Squishimus "more generic and less exotic and intimidating like fabrication or manufacturing"...ect i do like the discussion taking place around "voxel boards" though i have very little experience in this realm (limited to that cube style game about mining...) and i am not sure that even roughly qualifies. i might check out some of the other games to get a better feel of what is being discussed. one thought that quickly occurred to me was that at least for building some things some sort of "space dock gantry" might be kind of fun and in that case might lessen the anti-imersion effect. picturing a scenes from star trek (and a few other) movies where the ship was seen to be built in a giant "cage". again this does not work for every type of build. and considerations would have to be made for size, and perhaps artistic protrusions that may not fit in a particular "cage". perhaps a handful of size and shape choices for something like this? there are probably plenty of similar concepts that would work for other build types as well that are just no occurring to me at the moment or i do not like them myself so not wanting to share.... what the heck, it may spark a good idea in someone else. in many construction projects for buildings the actual structure is surrounded by scaffolding while the project is under way. one positive note on something like this is that it can be set up or configgured in many different ways depending on need. this may be a nightmare to program but there may be something better to come out of the discussion.
  3. how will DU handle players like me who usually opt to have multiple subs? will there be any advantage to doing this? the 2 main games i play i have 4-6 subs, this gets me the ability to be more self reliant. i can always drop down to a single account for specific activities where that is more appropriate. i can have characters online at the same time with different focuses on what they are good at. in one game i have characters more skilled at fighting, or healing or tanking ect. in another game i have characters focused on "boosting" or mining, or combat support, or transport. i like being able to mine on one screen and transport on another. ect. one idea that has seemed interesting to me would be a scale able sub. say a basic sub can have 4 characters, but only one can be active at a time, for a few dollars more i can have another of those characters active, and perhaps more total characters (there would need to be a way to address when i drop back to basic sub for any reason which characters do i lose access to?) also would need to address if i am using more than one computer to play. my current set up has one sub on it's own pc. so how would i be able to log in to the same account on different pc's? and do do you prevent my buddy from using one of my characters while i am playing another, thus cheating you out of a sub? my new set up (under construction) won't be like this. i will be able to do everything on a single pc. will you provide any in-game tools for nerds like me? i hope you will have ways of preventing automated play. though there are players like me out there who actually find the challenge of actually controlling several characters fun and challenging, it can be hard to separate us from other players who may or may not even be at their pc's while they are botting several accounts and gaining an unfair advantage over all the other players, myself included. i hope i have not overlooked this subject being discussed elsewhere, if i have i would love to be pointed in the right direction.
  4. though i know almost nothing about what you are discussing, i do love reading about it. i hope to find more information about your server set up. ofc not too much, as it is very sensitive information, but what ever you are willing to share. the subject is very fascinating to me. some companies are very closed about what comprises their server, others make a point to let the players know everything they can without compromising the safety of the costly equipment (and the priceless data on it). at work i often drop by our IT department office, and chat about the various aspects of the set up. though it is nothing compared to others i have seen, and even less compared to what is needed for running a game. it is very fun. we are building a new server for our company now and chatting about the equipment and what each piece will help us do better is quite intriguing. we build amusement park rides, and so we have a vast data base of drawings and engineering files that are constantly getting revised and updated. lots and lots of parts. so very fun.
  5. I do like the idea of separating pve/pvp. the game i currently play (probably not hard to guess which one) has very little separation, it boils down to having really levels of choice, and each level meaning how much you have to look for pvp. some places you might find it. some places you will probably find it, and some places where you can not avoid it (sometimes in huge fleet fights). i am really hoping to have a clearer separation of pve from pvp. i do prefer to spend most of my time in that game wishing i was safe and able to just do the things i enjoy safely. and then i decide to switch it up and just start shooting, i do enjoy pvp, and spend a fair amount of my play time involved in pvp. there are time when that is not what i want to do, or need to not do to meet some goal i have in that game. it will be interesting to see how NQ balances the play styles of this community. i think it is totally fine to have all the elements i have seen before in other games, ganking, scamming, setting traps, fleet fights, 1v1, harvesting, building, marketing. and so many more. i still need to keep reading to see what all my options will be, but i would love to be able to spend most of my time in space. aquire my materials, build explore. it would be nice to be able to choose whether or not to be involved in pvp, and not be confined to some city to do it. i do realize i kind of want my cake, and to eat it as well. more reading to do. pew pew pew
  6. Fantastic! spaceships and forests. i have so many questions. and ideas, most of which have already been asked and or suggested, so i will keep reading. every thread i read gets me more excited and interested.
  7. very nice, now where did i put my marshmallows? will all the rockets have the same "flame" effect, or will we be able to have variation to it?
  8. I am really excited by the tone of this discussion. I like the idea that testers ect. get to provide input. rewards are nice, but for me not required. i am just getting started on reading about the concept of this game, so i would love some pointers on where i can become a supporter. other than providing my input via forums, which i am totally willing and expecting to do. i have been keeping an eye on this game for some time now, and it has many concepts which are similar to another game i play, it also seems to lack some of the things which are not my favorite. and it looks like it will have plenty of new things which sound way fun. so many wonderful ideas, i can't wait to read further, and get to know some of my fellow interested persons.
  9. just introducing myself. looking forward to this whole process.
