    Hi!

I backed at the kickstarter program and I'm really excited about this game!

I never was in an alpha before, but I guess this testing will be alright - I have faith in novaquark.

Are there any advices for first steps on the forum? Or some social media?

    best regards
    Castor

    Greetings Castor!
I think its safe to say almost everyone on the forums is very excited for this game, and are on the hype train. So jump on board with the rest of us
I've never been in a alpha like this either, so it will be interesting so see and play.
As for first steps you have done the first one, introducing yourself.  Next thing I would do is look for a organization to join or create your own, if that interests you.
If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to post away.

Thanks Xplosiv!  Yeah, we're going to try to remain a relatively small, elite team.  I'm in this to make some actual friends, not rule the universe.

    Hello MrStarWars.

The design of that spacecraft looks very good, a bit hard to see details only.

I hope to see more spacecraft. I know how hard it can be to get tough criticism, i study at art school, so I receive daily criticism.

I do like Star wars. The  Empire spaceship has a simple design, triangle shape, there are so many ways to build from the simple shape.

Looking good. I've always liked the idea of your organization. Don't want to be very large right?, more of a small close knit group?
Best of luck to the Outfit!

    Hello Zorac
Not sure what organization would really fit your description. There are many large allied organizations who will maintain the peace in the universe  . The only org i can think of that fits your description is Frogstorm(i dont belive they recruit) or maybe B.O.O.
Good Luck on finding your place in the ever growing community,

The associated DevBlog explains it best.

Res Nodes are military grade Elements, hence, very expensive.

They take a long time to be charged up and eat power like nobody else when respawning someone.

They are not printers, they are quantum probabilistic machines, what that means, is that they snatch you from the multiverse you died and respawn you in them like a interdimensional teleporter.

When you die, you respawn to your nearest RN you got access to. If the RN is depleted of power, you res to your next accessible RN.

You don't get a chocie as of where to respawn into. The Arkship is siimply the final respawn location for everyone.

There's no restriction as of where you can place a resurrection node. Only how much power you can keep feeding it. YOu know , explorers need a safety net in case an animal gets them.

A carrier ship could essentially be a flying base, so when pilots die they respawn on it and take off in a star-fighter again, until either the star-fighters are depleted or the RN is depleted. My bet would be on a the star-fighters depleting first and the carrier ship acting as a mobile battleship and staging area for ground forces.

    Cheers.

Being able to see something doesn't mean you can hit it with a laser.

Optical and Radar sensors would fail to provide the exact location of ships at extreme range.  This is due to the speed of light.  What you see onscreen is the location of the ship at a previous point in time.

Technically, due to the vastness of space, lasers and projectile weapons would be considered "short range".

Missiles and torpedoes would be the only munition that could travel FTL, or be able to home in on a target that was detected by your sensors.

You're all arguing scientific theory vs game design.

This topic can be broken down into TWO factors that can be addressed programmatically.

    1.  Construct Inertia - which is part of the flight model
    2.  G force effects upon the avatar

I completely agree with Twerk that we would want "player skill" involved with piloting a ship.  Having a construct model inertia is important.  It doesn't need to be "true newtonian physics", but having some drift will go a LONG way to making piloting challenging.

Another factor used in flight sims is G-LoC (G Force related Loss of Consciousness).  Flying a plane at its mechanical limits, may exceed the physical limitations of your body.  This results is that your avatar experiences a blackout, or redout.

Even rotating a LARGE construct on its axis will exert LARGE forces upon the avatars that are at its extremities vs those avatars close to the axis.  The math involved would be quite significant.  And this doesn't address the MASSIVE G forces that would turn you to jelly, when accellerating to FTL speeds.

Its easier to say in the game lore that this issue has been resolved through scientific development.

Unfortunately, that removes the "G-LoC envelope" when it comes to piloting a ship.  It makes piloting easier.  That's why construct inertia SHOULD be implemented.  It will create an opportunity for a player to develop skill in flying the ship.

I'm completely open to other factors that would make piloting a ship challenging, but believe G-LoC should be removed via game lore.

TBH I applaud you.  I would guess that the majority of us are somewhat Star Wars fans at least and you have continuously changed and adapted but determined to follow what you want.  Can't copy, which crumbled what you were trying to build .... but you didn't quit and adapted and continued.

Even though I am totally against any authoritative type of organization and goes completely opposite of my value of individual freedom and choice, I wish your empire luck.

Well, until the balance needs to be restored.

I don't quite see what all the fuss is about.

What I do see is honest work here. It does resemble the Star Destroyer from Star Wars, yes. However, that is irrelevant. The model is intricate and well done--I can only imagine how many hours of work was invested into this design.

MrStarWars if you can create a model of such good work, then I do not doubt that you can create many more of better quality. Until then, ignore the voices and focus on what you want and have to do. In the end, you will have the last laugh.

I look towards seeing more of your designs.

Too bad the Developers have Kyrium in the Lore. If the Arkship had to use Kyrium to cushion G-Forces and not some quantum macguffin.

Notice, water IS a medium to dump inertia into, but it's not the most efficient. There are researchers who've made liquid armors, kevlars filled with silica-rich fluid on its interior, to withstand the shockwave of a bullet almost entirely, and I'm talking 7.22 here, not 0.22.

The liquid goes WITHIN the hull's layers by the way, not WITHIN the ship. You would not have people floating in water.

Also, the way I see it, the Devs will have alloys that utilise Kyrium being used as "layers" when making a ship's to withstand high G forces, that's a very good reason for good builders to shine through.

Pure Kyrium is unknown of how it is made, so I expect for Smelters to be able to make Unpure Kyrium which can't absorb the full of Inertia, but can absorb some of it, with Unpure Kyrium being combined with other minerals to create like, Stainless Kyrium Steel, or something along those lines.

Anyone have any ideas for how far sounds should travel in-game?
I'm thinking ships should be able to be heard from pretty far away, couple hundred meters at least.  I'm fine with there being no sound in space, but on planets this should be the case.
Say your head is down and you are mining away, you should be able to hear a ship coming, or is close by. So you can prepare yourself....

As ccp puts it: space would be boring without sound. Their explanation is what anasasi posted.
