Before I go ahead and make a more posts, I thought I would say hi. I am looking forward to this journey to the release of DU and beyond.

Also watch out for giant space squid. They will gulp us down when we least expect it. Sometimes they eat the brain first and leave the body standing around stupidly. Other times the body is snatched from very existence! They might even cause ships to fall from the sky! Beware!

Side Note: To clarify, I am just another player looking to make DU an even better place, not some giant squid worshipping organization (though if anyone is interested, drop me a PM). As a player from the southern tip of Africa, I expect to be the most affected by the "giant space squids" that go by the names of Latency, Lag and DC.

Anyway some of you have already read the stuff I've been spewing in the forums. I tend to be opinionated. I'm quite often wrong, too. Don't be afraid to correct me, I'll merely wait patiently for the opportunity for reveng er I mean learn from my mistakes, try to better myself as a human being, etc.

I've backed this game via Kickstarter. Hope to see most of you in the alpha. Good to be here, let's have fun, etc.

Yes, this will up to players to do what they see fit with the planets they colonize. Of course, nefarious ways of treating a planet might have consequences (just like it would in the real world). We are thinking about implementing possible natural penalties for players or organizations degradating or slowly destroying a planet. But nothing is written in stone yet.

And concerning potential Aliens in the game... Well, I can't tell you much right now.
Because if I do, there's a high chance that some men in black with sunglasses would come and take me away to have a "nice little chat" with me
So in short, I would only say: Maybe, maybe not  . Let's just say that before any Arkship landing, alien life (flora & fauna) has been spotted on some habitable planets but no intelligent/sentient alien race has been spotted so far.

So I was thinking, what if I could use those hovercraft engines and have some kind rail to go with it and use it to make some kind of maglev/monorail system. Imagine an intercity train system that can remove ships off the sky and decrease air traffic. or at least have one going around your city to go places faster so now ships can stop crashing into your buildings. I don't know what do you think?

friendlytyrant03 reacted to Cybrex in What makes this game worth $13/£10 per month?
While I am sure some of it is for new content, much of it I imagine goes to funding the servers. The setup they have is not going to be cheap, and perhaps the increase in sub cost is to help combat that. Just my theory anyways.

I have one thing to say: DU should be available on steam. I am a steam fanatic I get almost all my games on steam. ksp, space engineers now we need DU, NQ please consider if DU is available on steam so many people will know about this awesome game and make it even more popular. So, who's with me

No this is not another hate message, and don't get me wrong I feel happy for those who shall first step off the ARKSHIP and enter Their new lives. But I would not be one of those people and here's why:

First of all I know alpha is not going to be the "smoothest" thing in the world and I'm afraid the game will be ruined for me.

Second of all what will you even do? Yeah being an alpha team member will really help the devs improve the game and give feedback but other then that what do you do I suspect anything the alpha team built will be completely removed by public release so don't build anything cool or don't get attached to that ship you built.

I hope I didn't discourage anyone I just wanted to see if anyone else thought what I thought

To answer your question, yes they are an Eve corp. They also encompass other games like Star Citizen etc. and are simply opening up their group here in DU. Nothing super serious. We'll be seeing larger groups come in as we get closer to winter, especially after the kickstarter announcement during PAX next month.

We have a nice sized scar in one of our mountains here in Colorado Springs too.  It's in view of the entire city.  Horrible :-(

The only solution I know to keep this stuff from happening is to pay as much attention to your local elections as we do the national ones.   I suspect this will be the same solution in the game too.  If the people who live nearby allow this to happen, it will.  So it will be up to those same people to stop it and/or keep it from happening too.

Well just like in real life mining can ruin a landscape drastically there one was a small mountain at the end of the las Vegas valley then back in the 80s people started mining the zinc deposits and now to this day the entire top half of the mountain has been mined off and it ruins my view of the city

Id say no planet resets. Look at what we have done to the earth... it's not exactly the lush garden of Eden it once was.

If one wants to preserve their planet I'd suggest mining asteroids in need planet orbit : )

edit: as I hit enter I realized that might not be possible as at the moment there are 2 government style orgs in the TU and the DUA...might be forgetting one but meh not my job to keep track XD

Modern Cities are built around the exploitation of Private Cars, It's why cities in the USA are unnecessarily large and population density is low. It makes a lot of problems, One being that people are forced into a lifestyle of owning cars to be able to live happily. Public transport also suffers etc.

In DU however, I wouldn't be surprised if cities are very dense, Because of the readily available use of space ships and easy access to energy exploitation, Most of the efforts of a city would be to design around the concept of Arcology Construction

A single large, monolithic Construction for the purpose of housing peoples in the many hundreds of millions, In essence, the building behaves sort of like a Central Processing chip, Where you have inputs of raw materials and goods that may be required and an Output of Export materials depending on the Skill set of the population and the careers players might choose to specialize in.

Arcology Construction is extremely Efficient in the amount of room taken, compared to the amount of commute time needed. Rather than needing to travel 1 and 1/2 hours to your work, just take an elevator down to the industrial complex, or IT department.

Or at least that's the philosophy an industrially minded person like me would chose to design cities.
