  1. nothing like that yet and welcome
  2. oh, don't underestimate people, as long as there are no 24/7 webcams in their workplace with screencam there will always be room for more demands
  3. yes, please let me look for a group of people with the goal to create a super ai which will eradicate all of us and the whole dual universe will be played by bots afterwards ;D
  4. probably things like state of science and existing technologie.
  5. i definitely prefere the former 2 as i always like descriptive names. But dont put much worth into my opinion, i'm someone who names his cities in civilization "city0"++
  6. welcome, new minds are always a positive thing
  7. they will add a simplified coding language into the game for players to automate some parts of ships etc. maybe it'll be complex enough to allow the coding of simple routes and automated transports. Thats speculation tho. As for defense against enemmies, maybe automated defense drones?^^
  8. for me it doesnt sound like that at all, as far as we know we could as well have to control missle turrets and fighters as in the show andromeda, via virtual reality googles, which i would think of as awesome.
  9. with all that was said so far, people can build their own stargates (with the support of a guild or whoever) and tag other players as "able to use" thusmaking it a private/public transportation network. Same goes for self-built ships, if you have a space station with a secured docking door you could give certain people the tag "able to use" for the door, leaving everyone else outside.
  10. whats a game without opposition? i will see how ur puny alliance will deal with my creations [insert evil laughter].
  11. I studied physics and astronomy was one of the few more interesting lectures^^ Neutron stars are a quite likeable and actual topic.
  12. @nyzaltar you could take the archeological route, in a 10000 year old cave painting scientists discovered a painting of the night sky and there was an extremely bright star(the supernova) at a location where currently none can be seen. Upon closer observation of the space, they actually discovered a neutron star racing towards us, arriving within the next 500 years.
  13. heh, having a neutron star traveling at 1/3 of the speed of light isn't really inconspicious xD Oh well, but who knows, mabye it, by chance, passed an ancient alien acceleration devide
  14. i'm amazed, that the arkship isnt damaged after creating such a crater At the same time i want to point out again, that the timing with the neutron star can't ift because even the fastest known neutron star has only a fracture of the needed speed for our background story^^.
  15. I wondered if we will get games for pubs or similar in case we are a bit bored or just dont feel like being "constructive" in Dual Universe, will we get games like skat, poker, blackjack, dices, maybe a dual universe exclusive trading card game? Or, because we talk about Dual Universe, will we be able to create our own tabletop and card games?^^
  16. Really now? People dont share your opinion and you act as if you're the victim of a conspiration? Where exactly were people mean to you? I stated my opinion, you asked why so i explained it to you... and suddenly you tell me to stop arguing? who exactly was mean to whom? But if people "always" "attack" you when you write in a forum, then maybe its just you being rude and the others reacting to it?
  17. even if u take this as "its possible but tricky", how long do u expect a mmorpg player to play alone to be able to create somethign as advanced and complicated as a stargate by himself? For single player that might be possible, but then again this whole discussion would be pointless^^ but i think the whole discussion itself is a little bit offtopic, because the thread was created under a wrong assumption which was already resolved, so i think i will stop here before it develops into contentless spamming
  18. Honestly? You tell people in the ideas discussion section to stop arguing? Thats pretty presumptuous ... You asked me why i have the opinion that one planet per person would be bad, and i answered. Your statement just tells me that you don't know anything that would counter my arguments. Besides, its my opinion, you dont need to share it nor do u need to feel threatened by it, don't behave so rude. And of course there are billions of planets in the galaxy, and there are probably thousands with proper living condition, but you should maybe try to read the dev blogs and forum before making assumptions like that, it was stated that there wont be faster than light travel and that humankind managed to build the arkship before the catastrophe. With that in mind its absolutely clear that there just can't be one planet per person, because without ftl there wont be any interaction between different solar systems. So even if mankind did build several arkships, it wouldnt matter because it'd mean the players wont ever meet.
  19. 1. 10km to 20km is far far smaller than a planet with 30km diameter 2. there would either be a vast amount of useless, empty planets or the players would be extremely scattered which would significantly decrease the amount of interaction and pvp 3. a state/empire, whatever is supposed to be something strong, big, powerful, not something every single player can create just for it to be destroyed by 2 or 3 random bandits 4. You need more than 1 player to fly and control a bigger spacecraft, why would a state require less manpower than a spacecraft?
  20. it was never mentioned (and would probably also be impossible) to create an own planet for every player. If the planets are ~30km in diameter then it would mean a loooot of wasted space to have 1 planet per person And dont expect every player to be able to create their own "empire", if that'd be possible then the game would be pretty crappy^^
  21. ah, 2bad, so i guess the game will revolve around a single solar system then? at least for the first few years?
  22. its not instant, you still have to travel within that other dimension, which will take time, additionally there isn't an infinite amount of dimensions at the.. same place (even tho the concept "same place" sounds weird in the context) that means the reacheable stars, while spread over the whole universe are still a bit limited if u dont want to increase the travelingtime through the other dimension by a lot. Also, dont underestimate the difficulty of mapping the gravitation of a star or planet, thats really hard and you need to be very close to ur target. So getting to know the "fingerprint" of ur target requires having been there at least once to record it. That means either extreme long sublight flights for the pioneers or dropping out of the other dimension at random spots close to scources of high gravitation. This however is quite risky, and nothing guarantees, that the scource of the measured gravitation is really a stellar body in our dimension, it could as well be from a completely different dimension, only interacting as dark matter with our universe. as i said before, gates with wormholes are overused and rather boring. no, i dont know those animes, but it seems the author of them did a few of his physics homeworks^^ As for warp field and space deforming engines, there is just no proper scientific explanation for such engines, and i feel like dual universe should have a proper and possible explanation for its ftl engines. Warp and space deformation is a nice trick for ftl in novels/shows/etc. which dont try to be physically accurate. The most realistic way to describe warp and other ftl engines that are similar, like hyperdrive etc. would be to dive into another dimension with a much higher velocity of light, which then would allow to travel faster. This however, would require a dimension with the same topology as ours, and thats highyl unlikely to exist. Even if it might exist, it could only be verified locally and might deviate after a few thousand lightyears by a great margin. One way to "fix" this would be an engine which always only travels through the other dimension for a km or something, which would (probably) lead to relatively small deviations from the original target, which could be fixed after everytime the ship jumps back into our dimension. Even if the topology of the other dimension is a lot different from ours, but that would look like a vast amount of very fast teleportations and not like the "common" warp or hyperdrive^^ As for Space deformation engines, i'm absolutely no fan of this, it changes the topology of space itself, directly influencing all matter and other engines based on the same principle, the results of interaction with stars, planets or other spaceships could be catastrophic. Additionally, while there is no theory which suggests how bending space itself could be done, i do think it'd require an extreme amount of energy, which is unreasonable for the limited ressources of a spaceship.
