Watching the video, it would appear to me that there are so many, we don't knows, maybe after demeter, we are not sure yets and other phrases, that show this patch SHOULD NOT be released yet.
Not only is this patch VERY ALPHA, it is also very undecided. At this point you have to wonder if this is to save costs, maybe they should shut down the public servers for another year and restart with an alpha, when they are ready.
Also wipe on release????? That has to be a mistake. How is the question of a wipe for release on the table?
Just a quick comment on whether there is a wipe: For those of us who are creators, if you wipe out all our creations, we probably won't rebuild them, we probably will find a different avenue for our creativity so probably won't continue playing after a wipe at launch.
Sure, some creators might come back to a clean slate but that is a gamble you have to decide whether you will take or not.

Casual Players
Given the amount of tax per tile, this will make it very hard for casual players to hold tiles or even want them, this will then limit the number of casual players who would want to play the game.
I had hoped the tiles would work on a basis of number of tiles owned per player, where like now the tax increases the more you have or for tiles to cost more per tile that is occupied near them increases the tax, so that those who gain the additional benefits of owning more tiles next to each other also pay more taxes.
Now given the schematics cost a fortune to start with, the addition of taxes will remove any want of casual players to play this game.

i just opened another thread just before this Q/A was created...
Ok, usually i am not negative but the balance of Demeter on the PTS server has some severe problems.
1. Territory costs of 1m per week:
this will lead to almost nobody claiming any tiles any more outside of the sanc moon unless the territory can produce some serious income. so all "player made content" will disappear after some time
2. Scanning results do not get deleted and show l/h for mining units
this will lead to ALL really valuable tiles being claimed within the first 24h after demeter goes live, as it is really easy to identify the most powerful tiles for mining units if you have containers full with scanner results.
so after day 1, the fun is over and the "mega tiles" will be claimed by those players/orgs that have all the existing scans.
NQ, as demeter is balanced on the PTS, it would kill the game if it goes to the live server
- New players some days later would not have a chance to find income opportunities despite missions.
- earning quanta will be a lot harder, so people would stop spending.. this would kill industrialists workflow.
- the imbalance between experienced players/orgs and new players would get worse and even more players would demand a wipe or simply not enjoy the game
These changes are VERY ALPHA. I cannot think of a game that altered the basic premise of the game so greatly in beta.
As to previous scans being valid, I thought the video clearly stated they would not be.
Must admit I do feel like a fool having wasted so much time on mining skills that are now pretty much worthless.
I do worry that this game is just going to turn into a PvP game, where Industry is a complete side note.

Such a shame CCP caved in to the Null Sec cry babies. So many people who had not played for years were starting to come back. CCP should have taken the risk and the game would have so many more people now.
The whole argument that over time existing players have "so many TP and can't be caught up on" is nonsense indeed and really just means that whoever makes that claim has no idea about how a passive skill system works. The OP on this also has his number wrong as currently a year's worth of training is 47.3M SP, not 30m
The facts are that a new player will have skilled the most common talents into L4 on most within weeks and will have started specializing.
The facts are that regardless of how "old" a character is, a new player will need about 3-4 months to get to pretty much the same overall level
The facts are that you train L1-L4 in 1/5 of the time needed to train all 5 levels. so you actually train to a good spec pretty quickly
The facts are it is not required to train everything, you train the basics, then specialize.
So no, a new player will not be hopelessly behind a tenured player forever, they wil be a tenured player themselves in just a few months and unless they want to train everything probably be done training every talent for their specialization in a year. The idea is that you manage your skill queue in line with how you as a character actually progress and gain experience in game. That is the trick in EVE and it will be to some extent in DU if NQ managers to revamp the talent tree. An experienced player on a new character will find ways to use their knowledge and understanding of the game to counter the lack of talents trained.
I actually wrote a short guide to what i'd consider the basic skill found here.
PvE also adds risk and a lot more people seem to enjoy that than they do PvP.
What I find startling is the fact that PvP gamers always talk about how good PvP is but they only ever seem to want to attack non-PvP players in ships that cannot fight back, against players with no interest in learning all of the skills and abilities to PvP. They never seem to form into opposing groups in areas with the aim of attacking other PvP players.
It's encouraging to see the changes in the CM department over the past months. How that translates down the pipe into the company is what remains to be seen.. Let's hope for the best and a positive change by NQ in this regard. The work and input from the CM team is appreciated for sure!
It's a shame that after over three years, it took NQ actually falling on their face in public for this to (hopefully) become clear to the company and it's head huncho.. It's been a pattern with NQ since we started this journey but as until now this was covered up by the comfy cloak of NDA, NQ could pretend it was all good and "we were just not seeing the bigger picture" while the company assured itself they were right and we (as backers) were wrong.
Had NQ taken these lesson to heart sooner we would probably be further along in development at this time and while I will give you guys the benefit of the doubt here once more, I've seen and heard these words several times before while the actions really never happened from the side of NQ so you have everything to prove here and we'll see.
I really think you are trolling the entire forums with this. Absolutely disagree with everything you said and I have yet to find anyone that would think you are even remotely serious with this.
On a positive note, thanks for playing thousands of hours.
---This script uses program board to read player name who activated it and check to see if they have permission to enter a door while recording the name on the second screen and making sure its not a duplicate before writing to inside screen. If list exceeds screen you can right click screen and copy html and view elsewhere such as notepad
Requires:
1 databank
2 screens
1 detector unit
1 door
How to Install
Paste config and install links in order.
Edit Lua Parameter and Put Player name in parenthesis.
To add more players go into Lua editor and duplicate the line containing "Enter Name Here"
Slots Hook up in this order and rename slots.
slot1 --> databank
slot2 --> screenIN
slot3 --> detection
slot4 --> screenOUT
slot5 --> fdoor
My biggest issue with this type of game play is that it is so easily rewarded and lacks no real means of retribution.
In RL if you did something like this there would be all kinds of retribution which is the deterrent in doing it in the first place and therefore fosters the trust that allows our society to work for the most part. In this game you can virtually be someone else and then loose that identity so you never suffer any consequences of your actions. This is a flaw in game design IMHO. You should be able to trace who did this and so you can mark them in game somehow. Maybe some kind of game registry where you can link players and alts and name changes. With Steam there are services like battlemetrics that allow you to trace players. It would be valuable to have something similar in this game.
