  1. I hate to be a "fun" breaker but I remember in one of the devblogs somewhere about there being a build height limit on planets. Meaning that this would not exactly work. Now I could be wrong - so if someone wants to double check or even better yet, see if NQ will place his two cents in on if there is a limit or not.

This is the only reference I could find

    source

Territory tiles, or simply “tiles”, extend from 1km above the ground to the center of the planet, partitioning the sphere completely. They are initially neutral but they can be claimed by a player or an organization by setting up a Territory Unit anywhere inside the tile

What I understand is: You will be able to construct at any altitude, but, above 1km, it wont be in a zone you can "own" (with a ground based TCU)

I haven't found any news about space based TCU yet.

  2. That would be great.

But technically that means you will have to load every piece of audio that is playing...

If I start playing a song on my ship, and you come aboard with 20 friends, will the music be streamed from my client to every other client ? will the server handle the file and preload it for others to cache upon entering the ship ? this could take a while depending on the number of music and their size !

We could be speaking a huge amount of bandwith for the server as mp3s can be several MBs !

Also, "mp3" is a privately owned codec, NQ will have to pay a fee to implement an ingame player I believe.

Also copyrights issues... I am not seeing NQ taking that many risks.

On the other hand, some games have implemented open source/proprietary TTS (Text To Speech).

I even have done this myself with software a while back, it could prove really easy.

How are you going to call your ship's voice ? :D

  3. What are you talking about ?

Are you expecting me to engage in forum jousting with you all day long, I could not see a more boring way to spend a day. On others topic I have made some points, you disagreed in a quite arrogant manner and VOILA. There is nothing else to it. If you can't stand for other ppl to have another opinion than yours, don't go in the internet sir !

Did I even talked to you there ?

Did you know that I don't like to park my car too close to another one ? so, I am parking on the avenue to solve this personal problem, what could go wrong eh ? 404 Logic not found.

Don't even bother to answer that, I am not even reading you anymore sorry.

I am just going to type in fluo too ! seems like fun ! next step, a giant signature that I will change everyday to make the haters hating

    /s

Anyway, back on topic: thanks for coming and proving me right about the need for moderators ;)

Meanwhile, I have just started to "ignore" some users i consider toxic to civil and courteous discussion.

  4. I find myself asking ARE WE THERE YET?

    Sadly no :P

Can you give us a list with all features that are currently implemented and how they work or how you want them to work?

We already have an advanced voxel planetary engine with procedural generation, server-synchronized building and mining. We are also running a lot of stress tests on our servers to ensure that our multipayer technology will allow the continuous single shard universe we are aiming at. All the tests made show pretty good metrics for now. Our current focus is to make building and piloting mechanics smooth, user-friendly, fun and challenging in a MMORPG environment. Of course, this is just the beginning as many other gameplay features are in the pipeline.

  5. I'd appreciate it if you didn't quote me with font size +9000. Are you trying to make a point? If so, you can easily do that with a simple disagreement.

This is called highlighting but fine. If you are not proud of your question, you should just say it ;)

What about disagreement ? I was just trying to answer your question. This is how a forum is supposed to work unless I am mistaken ?

  6. Hummm, be mean all you want to, this won't make you right.

I do am, in fact, a professional developer, but I can only guess how a physic engine is coded since this is not my area of expertise.

From this perspective, knowing the general principle of gravity, forces, thrust and speed, it is quite easy to understand this will have WIDER effect to implement than just "make it spin". In fact, NQ don't even know themseves YET. They will need testing, and are foreseeing yet unseen problems, as told by Nyzaltar. And I know THAT very much. Anticipating the unseen.

SO, I reached MY OWN opinion. I think this is best not wasting time implementing this feature considering the many risk and the little gain.

I do know NQ will know better than me, this is not the point. If this is proving very much do-able they will consider doing it and voila, I won't be mad.

Is it worth a pink disdainful facepalm coming from what I am starting to consider as an attention-seeking person (to stay polite)  ? let me laugh. ;)

  7. There is one more and important aspect of this debate here we keep on overlooking.

This is supposed to be MMO, 2 branches? Can't see this happening.

    • Planetside2 is an MMOFPS with a Public Test Server having a different code base than public servers
    • EvE Online has a second server for testing
    • SWG, back in the day, had a Public Test Server (with blue frogs giving you all the item you wanted for SCIEEEENCE)
    • Star Citizen is doing unstable testing on a PTU too.

Being an MMO is not a limitation at all.

Of course this is what alpha is, but... come on, be pragmatical, look at what happend with StarCitizen... the need for a "public" and "testing" branch was a NECESSITY to prevent bad press and forums/video flame wars from thoses who don't know what "ALPHA" means. Educating most of them is hopeless you know...

  8. /facepalm

Don't you agree this would be such a complex thing that it could have many many unseen border effect on the game stability, balance and all ? all the while wasting DEV TIME better used on more basic core mechanics.

    And for what ?

Or do you simply spit on every comment you don't want to agree with ?

  9. What, exactly, is this post contributing to the forum, community, and game?

I believe this is quite obvious. It is a call for a permanent moderation team.

And I agree with that, seeing some other general behavior and attitude.

There is another thing with too large invasive signature, full color post, etc ... this is too much annoying.

If I were NQ i would probably first hire a lead moderator. Then maybe pickup one or two "free" moderators from the community, selecting ppl very carefully.

  10. As someone interested in pvp, I have to wonder, what prevents someone from just using the remove tool to mine through the doors and hull of my ship during combat? It makes sense to me that they would have to use weapons and explosives to breach through my structures

You might want to read this ;)https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/07/24/territory-control/

For short, if you "own" the land, it wont be editable by someone else with the editing tool.

Destroying your stuff will require more firepower coming from an actual weapon then.

  11. This may be a problem if the starting planet only has a radius of 30KM

    Here, you can read:

Tiles are about 1km large and for a 30km radius planet, it basically looks like this:

    planete_hexagones_small.jpg

So, crossing that with the teaser video between 0:05 and 0:07

You can see the player character is quite little. I have no doubt 30km would be enough for a starting planet.

  12.

I share a concern with many here, about having early access that a factor of generating a hype bust effect especially when expectations are high. Many of us had bad experience with early alpha access games I would assume and we know that many times the game ended up better in many places, sometimes development was literally driven by community and steering the goal in bad direction or ending up as unfinished buggy product with no purpose but just to take a look and leave.

    2. Obviously, there will be some compromises and optimisation to be made for all this to make it happen and this is where level of expectation may clash with reality. I hope devs here are mature people and they will select mature testers for alpha phase who understand what alpha or even beta means. People who can provide constructive critics not just constant moan. There is indeed a real danger if you saying multiple times (this and that may not be implemented at first stage)

Answering your own concerns ? :D

    Many problems with Early Alpha:

    • Buying to get access coz HYPE -> not here to "test" but to "play" -> 90% sure to be disappointed early
    • Buying to give money to enable the project to reach its potential -> may or may not "test" and prefer to "play" -> 50% chances to be disappointed early.
    • Buying to test and influence the direction of the game -> 10% chance to be disappointed

of course, if Early Access is too long, it will slowly disappoint more and more as time goes.

The only way (that I can see) to mitigate this, is to find a compromise by having a "stable", and a "test" branch

Having the possibility to select which one to use, much like how steam do it.

  13.

One of the first problem would be to define around which altitude a flying construct start to fly without being influenced by the planet rotation (because when a construct takes off, it could cause some technical problems if it doesn't follow the planet spinning, at least for a few moments). Same problem applies (and others emerge) for a planet making a revolution around a star.

You will have to implement an inertial speed and vector, matching the rotation speed of the planet I believe.

This is a useless complication from my point of view :P

  14. 7: Reaching the center of the galaxy quickly just makes it easier to work towards finding your friends and coordinating multiplay.

Is that even possible ? I am 99% certain it is not since the game has no netcode that I am aware of.

NMS is only pushing whatever you are naming, be it a planet or a lifeform... no actual multiplayer in the sense of "oh I can see you"

You will never see another player in front of you, even if he is theoretically standing in front of you from his point of view.

Every player is in a solo instance with a common item/name database.

Exactly like the "solo play" in Elite Dangerous.

I am pretty sure the confusion suit them (sony and NMS dev) since a lot of ppl will buy out of mere HYPE and not even bother to check deeper.

This is why I think this game is a total cashbait.

This is why I think DU has potential to be greater than NMS in every single way beside the "tamagochi" part.
