  1. With regard to NPC encounters. Seems a bit limited in scope to say they would have to be just L core ships. The NPCs could be anything from xs core hordes, solo scouts, pirates, explorers, haulers, airlines all the way up to giant battle carriers invading planets. Not to mention first person shooting NPCs if they put that element in the game. NPCs themselves would probably open up a whole load of new game loops and the potential for literally hundreds of different types of encounters from combat, to trading, to rescue, to looting wrecks, etc. The trouble is you need a dedicated dev team focused purely on NPC gameplay for a *long time* to make it actually work.
  2. Unless they changed something, ships can definitely fly underwater. The hover booster will fight to throw you back to the surface but can be overridden by holding the down thrust key.
  3. I expected a voxel builder/resource collector game that I could sink a few months of lockdown into and be totally absorbed by. What I got was well worth my time and money. Good fun, good people, wonderful build options to play with. We created sport within the game and shared the fun with many people. I had also expected something a bit more like Empyrion with regards to crafting, which at first I was a bit disappointed about. The system in DU was complicated and intimidating for the first few days. The apparent lack of profit possible with small scale industry also was confusing. I had also expected a much more dangerous environment with regards to PvP. The first hex I took on Alioth I buried my TCU deep into the sand and built a secret base with a tiny, well hidden entrance hole. I had no idea about safe zones. I knew there would be mining but I was not ready for the true beauty of a T1 meganode. A very exciting a fun feature that can enslave you for 24 hours of feverish work.
  4. yes to both questions. You can also get a pretty sweet boost assist coming out of the water for VTOL starts
  5. I believe Graxxor was just poking good natured fun at a grammatical error in your original post. 'Org's' denoting possessive rather than 'Orgs' denoting Org plural.
  6. The thing that never fails to amaze me about this place is that the regulars who spend all day criticizing NQ and the state of the game are the very first people to come running to defend if anyone new raises any negative truths. This forum truly is a bizarre microcosm
  7. If you want me to go to Alioth market 6 or 7 the price is doubled
  8. Dude, give it a rest. Two new threads a day is over the top.
  9. This is a game I used to play in 1989 called M1 Tank Plantoon. If you can make it run then it would be worth checking out before you spend months building a battle ship.
  10. Well, that's clear now then. I guess you really were always acting for the benefit of the game during your last year of relentless posting. ?
  11. So, if they opened a 3 inch slit in the robot's face mask and painted on an expressionless pair of lips would that be more or less human than DU characters? ?
  12. I understand man. I am not advocating anything. I am not even being caustic towards the devs for this. I don't blame someone wanting to provide the best life they can for their family by using a skill they have taken time to learn. It is simply the way things are. Gaming is a drug and globally worth billions. As soon as any commodity becomes that valuable customer satisfaction does not take a front seat. The true question is not how can we make the end user enjoy them self. The question is how can we make them hooked for as long as possible.
  13. Finding a game dev who respects their customers is as rare as finding a narcotics dealer who does. They are out there but it's very rare. The idea of making a game these days is to get people hooked, take up their time and get as much money as possible. Why would anyone be surprised at this? It's not like the movie industry where you have a customer who will view your work once or twice. It is exactly like the drugs industry. There are more gaming addicts now than heroine addicts, without question. Expecting them to care how much time we invested is about as silly as expecting a dealer to care how well you roll joints.
  14. This forum will not survive with anyone half competent at the helm. Worst marketing asset in history. I think it has come to that point now. Who wants my stuff?
  15. The saddest part is what did the thief even gain? A few elements? a bit of voxel substance? Absolutely nothing of real value to the thief and the owner of the ship lost something of real value that cannot perhaps be replaced. Would anyone who thinks this theft is fair play like to also clarify what the actual point of taking it could be other than pissing someone off?
  16. It is permitted to compile all sentences into a single post if you should choose such a method of communicating. Sucks that you guys got shafted. Do you need some donations towards rebuilding? I'd be happy to chip in.
  17. the more mass your craft has the more inertia you carry into a collision, hence why your L core ship causes this but not the smaller ones. As far as I know there is an algorithm that computes damage and distributes it to the elements in some form of sequence. But I am not sure exactly how. It does seem to be important the location of the elements in relation to the impact point. Put your pilot seat at the further point away from where you normally impact and see if it makes a difference.
  18. We had a real good feeling of community down at the race track until a while ago, was kind of why I want to play this game at all. Wish the voxel integrity would get fixed. Having random holes in things is a bit of a turn off.
  19. support chat online almost always has someone answering questions
  20. Well, they do to some extent.
  21. The most fun thing to do around here from now on might even be who can find the most impressive reason for getting perma banned.
  22. Naunet was the epitome of self control and diplomacy when dealing with a nest of vipers such as we are. Full respect deserved form the community and I hope that future employers know how lucky they are.
  23. I like your thinking Mr President. The one problem right now is that the limited communication from NQ about the state of affairs is now alienating even the building community. There is very little motivation to put energy into building when the chance of the server dying forever seems a realistic possibility.
  24. This thread went from us defending DU against an outside assailant, to arguing amongst ourselves about promoting other games, to games platforms....and even now back to us criticising DU again... Fantastic reading. Keep it up.
