That's a good idea.  However I do think that interdictions should become a possibility, but that would probably wreck the server load and piss off a lot of people anyway.

The warp drive safe zone drop-off though...THAT is a good idea!

Madrummer reacted to Frigidman in Setting the zone area for a Detector
"How does one adjust the actual zone (bounding area) that a detector will trigger?" ... is what I asked in the builders forum ...

    I guess you cant!

So I would like to put this in as a Suggestion Instead

    What am I talking about:

The zone area that a detector looks at, would benefit from a way to configure that zone. For example; making it a long thin area for a hallway only (no spill over), or a tight beam (leg trip), or even shifting it to a side so that a detector on a thin wall, isn't detecting things on the other side of the wall from its intended area.

    How it would work:

    - After placing a detector down, you could right-click it and select a menu option of "Adjust Zone".
    - This would then show a light transparent bounding area representing the current 'zone of detection'.
    - While in this mode, hitting the Arrows/PgUp/Dn (default keymap) will push each side out, while holding Alt with those keys will pull that side inwards. So the ability to adjust all 6 sides of the zone.
    - Minimum zone size would be 1 voxel in any direction.
    - Maximum zone size (or encompassing volume) would be based on the detector built (XS, S, M, L, XL).
    - When done, right-click the detector again and choose "Save Zone Setting".

    Alternative way to do it:

If the above 'menu option and keys' method seems too awkward, another way to do it, would be within LUA. To allow setting coords from detector center (0,0,0) where the zone is. This would require a LUA script and programing board in order to adjust the detection zone from default... making it only an option for advanced users.

To be fair, as someone who's done a lot of alpha and beta tests over the past couple decades, the full change log is actually decent as long as the last patch came out like 2-3 months ago (I honestly don't know, I'm just saying for a timeline that wouldn't be horrible).  They did do a LOT of tweaking to under-the-hood stuff.  But then again, I just started back up like a week ago after 2 years of being away.  So, for me, I've seen a HUGE improvement from alpha, and now I'm already seeing patch that's prettying things up, adds a new voxel object to edit with (and the cone will be useful|) and improving a couple tools, and they are putting on some band-aids to the market and GUI showing that they know more needs to be done and are adding the stuff to further improve on it.

But, as a player, I also really am disappointed that the rotation tool didn't get any additional axes added to it.  And I was hoping that the missions would include a bit more "meat" to it.  Still though, I'm happy they did add a new basic major game mechanic (missions) that let you get away from just mining and selling stuff you build from mining, and that they show that they are aware of the issues with the market and building and clutter (gotta till the soil and plant seeds before your crops can grow)

I agree that they should just add a contrast slider to the game, and reset the base contrast back to what it was.  Ambient lighting was a TERRIBLE idea.  No more fun use of shadows and spooky corridors.  I actually really enjoyed the darkness, made lights look cooler.

Also, the dark is okay!  We have lights with no battery cost, so we can not only use our suit's light, but build lights everywhere we want that are fairly small and very effective.  It was so cool setting down on the dark side of a planet and watching my ship's lights hit the surroundings as I set down.

Well.. so much for the changes to Market 6 and 7 improving performance.. it remains a lagfest which seems even worse now actually..

2nd time within 6 months NQ ignores any and all suggestions by players and presents their "solution" which (quelle surprise) makes absolutely no positive difference (as the player base pretty much predicted would happen).

If they are going to pull a stunt like this, at least leave the current materials as  "glossy XXXX" and introduce this new nastiness as "aged XXXX"...   The original silion panel was a perfect interior paneling solution, this is more alike a public toilet flooring solution...

... by which I mean that this sort of tile would have a definite place in the universe... Just no longer the floor of my org headquarters VIP corridors.

I've now got to replace 8000 cubic metres of this shite if they don't implement this as aged and grandfather the old silicon panel as glossy silicon panel.

I can only think that they did it purposefully. No way this was an accident.
Someone must have gone, "yes, this will do it.. the nastiest most corroded panel of the lot..."

so if they don't emit light then they need to change the name   right now they glow   so Glowing Voxel ?     Not trying to split hairs or start an argument but the reason they dimed them down is because they turned the contrast way way up.   This would make them so bright it would be blinding.

Give us the contrast controls!  I want mine to be turned down where it was so everything is not washed out looking.  thank you

The metals - no, big no. Glossy looks terrible now. Once bright, fun, interesting colors (e.g., polished orange steel) are muted. Shadows are not working, no, just not working. The jetpack will...not...stop...turning on and off. Jetpack on, jetpack off, jetpack on, jetpack off - Stop the insanity! (Aside: Never really needed a 'jetpack on' in this game, but perhaps you have something up your sleeve for the future.) Go back to fun glossy and black pattern plastic looks/textures. Make lumens great again! Please fix LUA, no longer can I edit LUA parameters. Yeah, you added more parking @ the Alioth districts, but you just delayed the inevitable. More people will just park more stuff there and w/in 4 weeks it will look the same - not a fun place to fly into and/or do business. Pro tip - add the additional parking and disallow people the ability to park / place objects on the main pad where the building is located; tired of landing and running like a mouse thru a maze to bob-n-weave thru all the crap people have placed there just so I can elevator up to your building and wait for the market parameters to loooooooooaaaaaaaaaaddddddddddddiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg to grab that one item I need so I can quickly leave Laglioth.

Also, can we have the old texture back for matte carbon fiber? It was gorgeous. Now it's basically polka dots, and has tiling artifacts.

This is just my opinion but  with the world the way it is right now we have enough "real" and need somewhere to escape that.    The more Real and Job like you make the game the less fun it becomes.  We saw this in .23 with the mass exodus of players.

There is balance to be had here you have to find that.

The new ambient light is a terrible idea. We've lost any ability to create 'dark' areas. The 'dark seedy understation' on Utopia is now just an overexposed nightmare. It looks like Todd Howard showed up, told everyone that the dark is scary and now we've just got this permanent dusk at night.

Areas that are completely hidden from the sun are no longer dark. No doubt this has ruined countless builds.

If you're having trouble with light on planets or underground, fine.. but why bork up the shadows on constructs? Quite honestly, the lighting on the constructs was the best in the game, and now it's just Fortnite. Space is dark.. that's the thing about the absence of light.... it's dark.

Seriously, if someone makes a critique, you need to stop spewing the same company talking points.
And stop dogpiling.  No wonder so many people quit the game and new user acquisition is so low.

I mean it, especially Mason just wow.  I've never seen a community so good at pushing buttons.  I'm usually pretty chill and friendly, but WOW any time someone mentions that they dislike the schematics system, and I say "Yeah I know, it's pretty terrible.  If it were up to me, there'd be the basic tiers available for the factories so you could at least have fun trying it out to see if you wanted to invest all your time in those talents," I get fllllaaaaamed hard!  And eventually, I broke.  I said some damn dirty things in chat (which I do not regret, you guys were all being scumbags) but I swear, it's A BETA!  You're SUPPOSED to talk about the things that you think don't work right!  This is NOT the final product!

I'd heard in videos and read in articles that this community had taken a weird turn for leg-humping, but wow experiencing first hand with the dogpiles and the absolute jack-assery that pushes people to just say "Eff you and your animal soul" was...well I'm out.  You think the changes are good for the economy, eh, because more contribution means more production?  Well, you bastards are about as bad for the economy as can be, because you're turning people off who want to play the game in any other way than you exactly do.

    Deuces, douches.

Hopefully some of the metals will be hotfixed but I'm pretty happy about the forward momentum so far.
But one thing I was suuuper disappointed about is that the rotation tool still doesn't have multiple axes of rotation ?

Please, please, please please please please for the sake of my sanity and saving everyone's time from having to use work-arounds, PLEASE add more rotation axes to the element rotation tool!  Just like, have the X be default, hold shift for Y, hold alt for Z.  I swear to you, this will be the single most valuable change to the editing tool set you could make.

(basically a re-write of a comment I made, then saw I'd be making the same response to most of these topics and figured I'd just plop it here)
edit: (I start by being generous to the devs, and understanding to the people who aren't so happy, but I give my honest thoughts on it)

So, as someone who's done a lot of alpha and beta tests over the past couple decades (on both successful games and ones that deserve to burn in the fieriest regions of Hell), the full change log is actually decent considering the last patch came out about 3 months ago (I had to look that up, so the timeline is about right).  They did do a LOT of tweaking to under-the-hood stuff, which in a game that has so many interconnected elements is a big feat.

But then again, I just started back up like a week ago after over a year-and-a-half of being away and letting the turkey bake in the oven without checking it every ten minutes.  So, for me, I've seen a HUGE improvement from alpha, but I know for most of you that have been on this journey the whole time, you're just watching the scenery go by slowly and not really noticing the change as being as impactful as I did.  And after just being back for a week, I'm already seeing a patch go up that's making things look nicer, adds a new voxel object to edit with (and the cone will be fun to play with) and improving a couple tools.  Also, they are putting on some band-aids to the market and GUI showing that they know more needs to be done and are adding the foundation to further improve on it.  So, I'm hopeful, there.

But, as a cynical player, I also really am disappointed that the rotation tool didn't get any additional axes added to it.  And I was hoping that the missions would include a bit more "meat" to it.  Still though, I'm happy they did add a new basis for a major game mechanic (missions) that let you get away from just mining and selling stuff you build from mining, and that they show that they are aware of the issues with the market and building and clutter (gotta till the soil and plant seeds before your crops can grow).

So y'know...  I think it's alright.  And I think they're moving in the right direction, and are still very much so involved in trying to produce the product that we all want, even if they're on a shoestring budget.

So new graphics and such is nice.  But let me cut to the point.  Market clutter solution was no solution.  It was a delaying tactic at best.   Why not compact and place any ship left there for longer than 90 days and shove it in their market inventory so they can come and get it.

This won't effect active players, but dead accounts will clean up the trash.

Honestly, this community was great in alpha, a lot of people with good and constructive criticism. After beta, it became too toxic, unfortunately due to 10 people spamming all the threads in the forums and crying about how DU sucks in their opinion and repeating the same thing over and over. Like you said, this is extremely bad for new players who are interested in the game.

All the people spamming the forums just get their dose of dopamine when someone likes their post/comment, since they don't have anything better to do in their life. It's saddening to see an awesome game fail due to the toxicity of a small number of nolifers, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. If you really support the game and want it to succeed, play it, bring some friends with you, have a nice time, don't spam the forums with unnecessary negativity, like 80% of the people here.

I will keep playing the game and pay my 2 subs every month to support the development as much as I can. At this point, this is all we can do if we want a good future for DU.

Also, to all the people crying in this forum how the game sucks, I feel sorry that you need to have some random dude agree with you on a forum to have meaning in your life.

To be fair, he said he worked his way up, including being super-nice to people and helping to train their combat forces, probably even fought in battles with them in order to keep his cover.  It wasn't a door left open, it was just a very good spy with no scruples and a goal that he was going to reach no matter what morally was in his way.
