My friend and I where thinking when Dual Universe go's live maybe we would go to  the other planets in the solar system as soon as we could even if its a long slow ride and also take a few friends .  =)   So the first thing we thought was at that early stages in the game we would probably have to convert a cargo style ship and  carrier people and equipment to a new planet and set up a base of operations and later expand that base /out post into a city .

Once our technology and skill get to a certain point my friend said he would try to just build a large colony ship that would have everything on it and the ship would just land on a planet and become a base / out post and I thought wow that's was a great idea!

I remembered something about 3d printing homes and I told  him wouldn't it be cool if we could build a ship large enough to 3d print bases and he laughed and said yea but I don't know if that will be possible but we could always give it a try. So I was playing around  on some sketches  wondering how a large ship with 3d base building might look ? I was listening to music and looking at YouTube : sigh dam some one beat me to it ! I guess I can still work on my version ?

We tend to use our past experiences in other games as the basis for forming our ideas of what game play will be like in DU.

But based on what we know of DU's intended design at this stage, many of the lessons learned in other games will quite possibly not apply in DU. It certainly looks like DU's game play will be "slower" than most other games with similar features. Travel takes significant time in DU. Scanning for minerals will take time. Mining is not done on industrial scale. Expansion to other systems will be slow. Constructs remain in the game world when the player logs out. EVERYTHING is player-built.

All those features may not seem very important when considered individually, but all together they may well produce game play unlike any other game.

For instance, EVE players may vastly underestimate the effects of the long travel times in DU, because that's simply not a significant factor in EVE. If your fleet in DU ends up in the wrong place, it make take several hours to get it to the right place...
Simple things like scouting ahead become far more tricky in DU. You can't just login an alt, scout an area and then warp to a safespot and logout the alt AND their ship. In DU, the ship stays in the game world, which means it can be scanned down and destroyed. Replacing the ship may be trivial, but the 2 hours flying required to put that alt scout in place won't be...

Well - the main reason for wanting to try playing solo would be a satisfaction of having my little and insignificant 'legacy' worked out just by me. It may be not obtainable in DU environment, but it's something tempting for me. This absolutely DOES NOT MEAN not communicating with other players and not respecting the rules that apply on their respective territories.

Think of me as someone who's dreaming about self-sustaining his little life as a space nomad, being able to move from location to location and experience life as someone who contributes to re-building civilization on his own terms, helping whenever he can, provided he agrees with the principles of some encountered orgs (being rather pro peaceful coexistence, technological advancements, infrastructure building, diplomatic solutions rather than warmongering), while staying away from hostiles. It's probably the longing for some kind of Lucky Lucke's type of roaming freedom, just without chasing some villains part.

Yes, loners are on disadvantage, however I believe it always can be balanced a little with some effort. Of course, I advocate for my playstyle, just as other respective members advocate for theirs. However my playstyle wouldn't be disruptive for big groups of players, it won't really break anything, if correctly applied.

And yes - manpower is a challenge for loners, and a big argument for cooperation. However, social interactions can be sometimes hard, and sometimes crowd thinking makes you a piece of a puzzle/bigger picture, and you might be forced to do something you don't really support or agree with, but you just want to stay safe and accepted. I don't want to feel squished by great power play, just to contribute to some epic fleets clashes or grand destruction. I would like to control my involvement, I want to have good options.

I'm not trying to say I'll always play like this, however for now it seems most attractive. At the start of a game I don't want to over-invest in social structure which might turn out toxic or pursuing different set of gameplay principles than mine.

As a thought: Why not join a group that covers whatever goals and dreams you have in mind? I may have missed or forgotten previous posts where you lift the secret whether you want to do your own thing or join up with a group right now or later, but "maintain my protection systems" implies you running them (alone?).

You'll probably have a better time with others together where you can benefit from easier maintenance of such systems, shared cost and so on.

And if you're more into creative designs and whatnot, not so much combat, there's still plenty of groups to cover your needs by that preference. We also recruit (those interested in leading).

    #shamelessad
    #micdrop

But in all seriousness, loners often had the disadvantage by default in such environments unless they act a bit like freelancers or offer their services to the right folks for the right conditions at the right times while staying independent, I suppose.

The disadvantage is still apparent: Manpower. A task that might take you a week, a larger group might be able to pull off in 2 days, 1 day or just a few hours.

LOL.. PL.. I guess things are getting more clear now if that is your idea of PL.. .. They are more like Oh look, a fancy destroyer.. Let's drop 4 capitals on him just in case he would maybe able to kill on of ours. Or drop ECM from 150KM out to make it a one man game. Fortunately none of those will work in DU and if you try I will probably just ram my ship down one of your throats.. If I don't bounce off

Well, I guess it's a part of my nature, that principles matter to me. It somehow feels ok to be punished as a tresspaser, but not ok to be robbed of everything because someone feels he can do it. It's a different kind of loss, different kind of pain, even in a game, you know.

I pretty much realize I've never had a thick skin (what can you do? People are different, some things you can't choose) and I'm not made for high-competitve gameplay, still loved the idea of DU and being a part of it, I just look for a most suitable formula for my own personality. I don't need excessive stress - due to some different real life stuff I had always enough of it. I don't expect whole world to respect my playstyle, however I want to avoid griefing as much as possible, of course provided I do what I can not to give people reasons to attack me. I'm not aimed at making enemies and my approach should revolve about idea of relative neutrality and universal respect. Of course neutrality is not set in stone, however it's something I want to try.

About retaliation - it only applies to single attackers. If a small group decides to grief solo player, the latter is on a lost position. That's why I would love to see a kind of balancing role of defense systems, that puts the attacker at much higher risks than defender. It's just a thought. If I can make them feel punished just by attacking me and paying dearly in exchange for dubious reward, it will just be a best detterent. I don't want to engage my emotions and playtime to retaliate to some evident trolls. I believe DU should provide me with much better and construtive options, driven towards rebuilding civilization.

Of course, you're right about protecting my assets and keeping most of them in a safe zone, it's a given. Probably, building and maintaining anything outside of safe-zone will be a big experiment, especially in an early game - still want to try it at some point, since it could be fun and exciting, and I don't want to feel 100% isolated from the playerbase. I'm also fully aware that I have to maintain my protection systems, it's something completely normal. I just want to be sure that, those protection mechanism will be really deterrent for most of griefers, that's all. I want to them simply to be effective and worth investing my time and resources in.

So all in all - reasons behind actions are important to me, my own reasons, and other player reasons. After all, it's maybe a part of gameplay too?

    Hey and welcome!

There's a few going on around the community in addition to the previously mentioned Tortgua:
Project Collective from GLSU - a city (neutral I believe) sponsored by the GLSU alliance. I would go on to their Discord to find out more. Project Emberstone from the Aeonian Federation - also neutral, and sponsored by the AFED alliance. The Terran Union also has their various capital and regional city projects in the works - Neutral, although it is sponsored by a nation and the capital obviously functions as a national capital - I would recommend hopping on to TU's Discord to find out more. Good luck! I hope to see you around!

Is there any guilds that are collaborating together to create a City/outpost I am not looking to be dragged into a conflict in my roleplay Jobe I.E Shipbuilder. I don't wont to be part of a Military guild that creates's a city/outpost and then demands I must pvp with my own ships. I will pay my due taxes and sell ships to Any player apart from pirate factions

I have tried looking on the organization list for the right Guild but a lot of them Demand PVP role's. I guess I don't mind Self Defence damage to the city/outpost would ruin my Economy as well as others
I need a Guild that has The following
    Team Speak
    Discord

Mind Set that understands I am RP as citizens and not bound to the faction that built the city/outpost

Comment down below if you are part of one with there organization and links.

The Aeonian Federation, yes the name has changed and from what I have heard as an outsider, the goal remains the same, an organization of organizations.

I share similar concerns that outside the safe zone that there will be boogymen just on the other side ready to take my stuff, I also realize that until proper markets exist that I won't be worth stealing much from unless I go outside the safe zone.

The way I see it, I can either choose to stay in prison where everything is black and white, strict, mostly controlled and predictable. On the other hand, I can elect to go out into the free and colorful world where the rules are created and enforced by those around you. Of course, we might be an advanced civilization 10000 years in the future but the player-run police don't dabble in pre-crime so some stranger might shoot you and steal your stuff, maybe they'll get caught, maybe not, sort of like the free world in the real world.

I give, maybe it's a terrible analogy, feel free to come up with a better one. Whether or not you like it, shit will happen, and it will be up to you and whatever community you have around you to pick up the pieces after the last bomb drops. For some people, war is money. Money to be made in destroying something, money being made to rebuild it.

Don't go out with what you can't afford to lose, if that means your ship gets destroyed and you value the time and effort you spent building it, blueprint it. You won't get your time and resources back, but at least you're not starting from scratch and if you get blown up and have to start from scratch, you're doing it wrong.

That all may be true, but last i checked a subscription fee plus the potential DACs bought by those user is worth more than some fictional currency to a real business. Not to mention, sure suicide ganking may reduce supply, but if it causes enough people to leave it also reduces demand, which leaves us back to square 1.

That's quite a bit of false assumptions you have there.

i agree. I've seen games dumbed down to oblivion, but at the same time if the learning curve is too steep, it won't bring in more people either.

This may be true, but i bet you that they aren't a group of people with less than a month combat experience in the game while completing these feats. So when you are fighting a force that has at least equal or more often times greater skill, numbers most definitely matter especially if in their favor.

I have no problem with freedom of choice but i think game mechanics should influence that choice else it can be pure anarchy. I think that if you are a villain, there should be a very good reason for another player to be the police, which often times the reward is mediocre at best.
Is it though? You may think it's bullshit but I at least have proof that it is a valid argument in the form of the original post on this thread. Eve has such a negative stigma that some people will completely disregard any differences and key features that separate this game from it, including the non-combat aspects. That is the biggest hurdle i've been trying to get people to overcome when trying to get them to consider this game.

I've played EVE enough to understand the appeal of it. Though I would never call myself an expert player.

If it makes a difference for some people reading, I do not want EVE.2. I actually hope that because of the multi facet gameplay DU will offer that it won't devolve into a dystopia.

Everything in DU is build around the concept of rebuilding civilization. Though that includes some pew pew.

Not sure about that, what drove me off was the "if it is red it is dead" mentality that most players of EVE have. I mostly did exploration and relic and data sites in EVE, but that quickly became a mere game of hiding as PVP players thought an unarmed frigate would look good in their killboard.

What surprises me is how many here just want DU to be a EVE clone, clones will never work. If DUs main playstyle will be a copy of EVE it will fail. Not because that playstyle is bad, but because it is a clone.

DU must make sure that it will offer more and different playstyles than EVE.

The devs will also get to tip the scales pretty heavily here, don't underestimate the power of mechanical reinforcement!

The game itself will likely have a bias towards order and protection, to help counteract the player-bias towards destruction and PVP. In games without that bias, it only takes a few destructive players to ruin the experience for a large number of peaceful builders, I've got some faith that NQ will provide plenty of tools to create safe-ish areas.

We will still have some equivalent to null-sec (from eve) though, since "laws" will really only be enforceable in automated areas (like within the influence of a TU), or in areas where there are actually players to carry-out law enforcement (in loosely held zones or space without TU's). Outside of those areas it'll be the wild west, but space is huge, so a pirate finding you and killing you randomly will be a needle in a haystack situation unless there are solid ways to scan for ships long-distance, or unless you happen to be intersecting a high-activity area.

Personally I prefer the NRDS rule we maintain in Providence. It allows for neutrals (and not affiliated newbros) to do their thing. If there a risk? sure, but it does not outweigh the benefit.

For those who do not know
NBSI = Not Blue Shoot It (anything not friendly can be attacked and killed)
NRDS = Not Red Don't Shoot (unless it's a known enemy, leave it alone)
