By the way, Kiklix, I will seriously think about some communication channel, like private forum, slack, discord and so on. Maybe it is preemptive, but we grow fast and we soon will need something to discuss in more comfortable (and more private!) conditions

EDT: I can help with that.

I've always disliked the science system in KSP because it was a very unconvincing connection between the collection of science points and suddenly having researched new parts.

So if there is a science system, it needs to make sense. A measurement of cosmic radiation shouldn't just arbitrarily lead to being able to build a new engine unit.

Heres some ideas that come to mind:

    -Have a Materials Research Unit
-Have resources which cannot be used until they are put into the Research Unit for a given amount of time.
-Allows players/organizations to corner the market on certain rare resources, if they have put a lot of effort into finding and researching a rare material

Srry if I repeated anyones ideas, didn't have time to read much of the above posts.

...buy seriously, I love all sorts of pure cosmetic customization items - hats, ship/gear skins, clothes, dyes, fancy shaped decorative items (and maybe voices for you guiding AI too) and so on. So long such items do not give any mechanical advantages, I am perfectly ok with cash shop and even can buy sometime something for myself.

As long as there is a balance with the cash shop and it does not make you feel like you HAVE to spend money to enjoy some customization aspects. SWTOR does this badly. A lot of their cash shop almost feels necessary in regards to character customization. This is a turn off after spending 15 bucks a month and then money in the cash shop. Short term it might make more for the company, but in long term it heavily reduces profits vs a straight up sub plan when people reevaluate their gaming budgets (often quitting the cash shop heavy games).

That being said. It might be nice to see something like in game LOGO assets for organizations. Basically create a UI element that allows the organization leaders to submit a logo for in game use and part of the asset pack that accompanies the game files. The logo would have to be specific size, file type etc...but it would have a heavy cost (the cost of the art team cleaning it up, coding team implementing it etc). So lets say for example a guild logo cost 200 dollars. The UI would be set up to accept payment towards that 200 dollar goal for the guild logo. When the guild (or a solo person) pays up to the 200, then Novaquark could implement it the next patch.

I do like the idea of a sound pack with robot voices though. I love robots and robots love me.

Yeah, I not accuse you of trolling, but forum rules state clearly that ANY real politic/religion talk is frowned upon. And please keep it in that way. I am avid political disputant myself, but game forum is not place for that. Maybe if we will have some kind of "hydepark" section to discuss out-of-game things, we can do proper political debate. But for now, please stick to the works of fiction

And automation make life easier for pirates and rogues too. Machine is always easier to defeat/destroy than human, especially when player program it and go afk ;D So, for me, you can even script avatar actions - I will have tons of fun destroying such automatons ;p

Less of a gameplay, more of a forum idea.

We currently have both player and organization introductions in one category.

I suggest that we (well, mods / admins that is) create a new category for player organizations, alliances, etc. This may be more useful sooner or later in my book and may eventually make finding them easier. It also looks a bit better.

Of course the sooner this would be considered and implemented, the less work you have later on as you move threads over.

If we assume people are for this idea, how could one execute it as we have threads in the category already?

Perhaps users are allowed to move their own threads between categories. If that's not yet possible (I didn't try so far) or not intended then mods could move threads upon request. There aren't that many organizations yet so that should also not be too much of a hassle.

You haven't heard of Loot Councils? Man you are lucky. When my guild went into ICC 25M Heroic, the Loot Councils were the rage. You guys rolled Need and Greed on items? Nice one, I wish to have seen the QQ going.

And stop withe straw-man arguements please. Progression and Voxel gameplay has nothing to do with creating a Skinner's Box within an organisation/guild/faction. You can call it DKP, SpaceCoins or Honorable Brony Patch, if it's a award that can be redeemed later on for something and it's an award claimed for doing something over and over again, that's called a job and jobs that are providing you enough to sustain you but not enough to make you wanna leave, is wage-slavery. And there are many sociopaths (as you might have noticed on this topic) that are actively seeking slavery in the game and they will use the Skinner method to achieve it.

And you seem to be a very... uhm, straight shooting arrow kind of guy, no cunning involved, so here's a tip for free.

A lion's great strength is its mass and teeth.

    A cheetah's is its speed.

A human's is its canning nature.

When you use force to make people your slaves, you end up with a rebellion. When you convince people to give up their free will, then you get McDonalds popping-up everywhere,

And you are the kind of people the machines will one day conquer, because you seem to think that doing the same quest in WoW , day in day out, to get those same gold rewards is tots fine, but a player? Giving you a quest?

THAT'S ABSURD. That's like some commie scheme!

That's like some french guy came up with the idea of a sandbox game, with emergent gameplay, a fleshed out organisation and economic system and wanted to make a voxel game based around it with thousands of players on the same server! Pffft, I mean, you wouldn't go and post your opinions on that forum right? You don't want emergent gameplay, you want NPCs with a blue question mark over their heads, giving you quests, rather than actual players, handing you jobs for a paycheck.

Like it or not, there's going to be wage-slavery, because friends are going to play together and take missions together. Because the greatest fantasy in sci-fi games, is the mercenary kind of fantasy. Call it a smuggler, a hired gun, or a miner, people are going to set up a scheme to leash people to their organisation. And you also seem to underestimate the power of a habbit. Expect big organisations to be run by sociopaths. They always do.

Let's keep any further debate in PM. Nobody got to put up with our dispute over what qualifies as slavery.

The point is for players to not be packed like shrimps in a can. Even in games, people want their personal space. Possibly, having a territory claim being organised into streets for easier navigation. So yeah, I would suggest a 10 kilometer radius world. Enough to have two or three cites, and a countryside. I do say time and time again that most people will probably stay in a planet they call home and do their thing, either it be PvE, harvesting or statue-carving. Not all want to be Captain Kirk, but many want to be a mayor of a frontier town.

30 Kilometer radius would be 1130000 Square Kilometers of surface.

15 Kilometer radius would be half that.

Great Britain is 209000 square kilometers.

The planets need to be smaller imo.

Less we have patches of land occupied by sheep and angry Scotts.

I don't expect any kind of universal central government to emerge, so most of the universe will be in anarchy.

With that said, many there will be many small player groups, and several of them (Goons, no way they won't invade this game) will be large enough to be considered nations. But not big enough to dictate gameplay on universe scale though. Closest political structure such groups have is Empire I guess. Certainly not any kind of democratical structure.

"What is order for a spider, is chaos for a fly". Everybody has they own style of gameplay and what is for you is "ruin" for other people can be "best fun". MMO stands for "MASSIVE" game, so devs try to create something to satisfy a very vast spectrum of playing needs. And we, as future players, should rather carve our own niche, than forbid others having fun in different ways.

In infinite universe any style of play will not be some else problem - you can always can just change planet
