QuidamAzerty reacted to NQ-Naerais in NQ-Naeris, new Community Manager, has entered the game!
    Hello Noveans!

As NQ-Nyzaltar said, I just joined the team here in Montreal. I'm very happy to be here, and excited to continue this amazing journey with all of you. I am quite new to the company so I do ask for a little patience while I get sorted here, I may not have all the answers right away but do know I will do my best to help make your experience with us the best it can be.

A bit about my background, I've worked on quite a few games of all varieties (MMO, Table Top, Card, Collectible, Board and more) for more years than I care to admit. I'm definitely an MMO fanatic and will be spending just as much of my free time along side you (in secret ) as you do. I'm convinced I'm a cat whisperer (though the same can be said for coffee), and a sci-fi fan.

I can't wait to see, share and celebrate all that you build in this amazing universe together!

We are really happy to have her on board!
Give a warm welcome to NQ-Naerais!

    Best Regards,

    Bonjour,

    A bientôt.

QuidamAzerty reacted to Arcus25 in What does it mean to "win" in a game like DU?
As someone that's been playing games since he was 6, has tried everything, then studied game development for 4 years, I'd like to pitch into this.

There are different kinds of audiences in the game industry like every other industry of course, in the gaming industry you have these audiences (from my perspective):
    Action
    Achievers
    Chill
    Competitive
    Roleplayers

Action players are into fast-paced games that give you as much to do in as little time as possible. Achievers want to try and 100% the games they play or grind for everything in an MMO. Chill players just want to relax and be in the game. Competitive players want to be the best and usually master the mechanics of a game. Roleplayers try to recreate a story or character in a game from something else or their own creativity.

If you look from the perspective of each one of these audience members, then what they see as "winning" in a game like this is different. Action players see winning as getting into combat and getting out of it alive, mastering the mechanics, or getting the highest score; basically short term wins. Achievers only win when they 100% a game, which is difficult if the game constantly updates adding new content. Chill players don't really care about winning a game, I guess they see winning as finding the best way to chill in a game, so if the game has constant distractions and annoyances, then they've lost. Competitive players obviously want to be the number one player, so a scoring and/or rule system that places players in a skill hierarchy is important for them to decide this, that way they can use it to find out who is truly "number one". Roleplayers usually see winning as completing their character's life I suppose, game mechanics like a progression system with skills, levels, etc. can help simulate character development, completing the development of their character and/or completing a campaign they've made or the game has made for their character is usually seen as a win.

I can go even more in depth, but this is just a summary for each audience. Overall though, it depends on the kind of person you are and what you are content with being the last thing you ever need to do in a game, being that making it to the number one player spot, or just building a massive castle.

"Winning" is an arbitrary line in the sand.

    DU is a sandbox.

QuidamAzerty reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Community Portal: Alpha 3 transitional state
    Hi everyone!

With the Alpha 3 deployment around the corner and the RDMS implementation, we had to make significant changes in the background by connecting organizations data available on the Community Portal to the organizations data that will be available in-game. As it is a "Work in Progress", the Community Portal will switch in "Read Only" mode for the time being, to limit the probability of technical issues.

During this transitional period, All management actions for the organizations will be done in-game.
You will also note that the number of legates per organizations isn't displayed anymore.
We are aware the situation isn't ideal, but it's a temporary and necessary step.

Update: Wednesday, January 22th, 16:15 UTC

    What's the current situation?
    To be clear:
    - Posting/Editing News have been deactivated on the Community Portal.
    - It will still be possible to post/edit News on the Community Portal through the in-game User Interface (assuming you have the proper rights to do such thing).
    - Posting/Editing News will remain in a minimal state for the time being (only simple text. HTML code for formating options and image insertion will came back later).
    - Posting/Editing News directly through the Community Portal should come back at a later stage.
    - The "Join Organization / Accept application" feature remains active.
    - The applications pending before the maintenance today should still be there after.
    - Features such promoting or demoting a member will now exclusively in-game (as the process may now involve other game mechanics).
    - Displaying the number of legates on the Organization Ranking page has been deactivated (as an intermediary step of the coming changes in the future).

    What's coming in the future?
(please keep in mind that the features described below are work in progress and might change before their release)

Organization Ranking by the number of Active Members.
As the Community Portal will evolve, we plan to display the number "Active Members" and the number "Honorary Members" for each organization in the future.
The Organization Ranking will be done by the number of Active Members in decreasing order.

What will be "Active Members" and "Honorary Members"?
"Honorary Members" accounts will be accounts that have joined an organization on the Community Portal but haven't access to the game.
"Active Members" accounts will be accounts that have joined an organization on the Community Portal and have access to the game.
Accounts joining an organization directly in-game will be automatically validated as "Active Members" in an organization.
Only "Active Members" will be eligible to legate status, as most organization management actions will be only possible in-game.

    Why planning this?
This is planned for two reasons:
    1) To give a better visibility for newcomers regarding the activity potential of each organization (which can impact the decision of joining one organization or another).
    2) To discourage unfair practices such as creating ghost accounts and making them join an org to inflate artificially its size (and get undeserved visibility).

    Best Regards,
    The Novaquark Team.

    Alright.

Things are getting a bit out of hand here.

    @xlDvSlx
    @DvS_UK

Thinking that the DAC system is "Pay to win" is your opinion and it's your right to think that way, even if many people here disagree with you.
However, it's strange that you start a crusade right now on the monetization model as you claimed to be a long time follower of the game.
If you are a long time follower, then you know we never hid what the monetization model was going to be and said it right from the beginning (the Kickstarter Campaign in 2016). If you disagreed on the monetization model, it would have been perfectly understandable to not support the game. Why starting a crusade on this topic now? If you realized what the monetization model was going to be just now or recently, then maybe the real issue here might be "this game is not for you".  In that case, please contact the customer support at support@novaquark.com for such kind of topic. The monetization model has been debated many times, and the Novaquark team has already explained in length why we were going with this one.

For the record, this monetization model has also been adopted by some of the biggest MMORPG, such as World of Warcraft (through the WoW token system, which is exactly the same thing as the DACs) and as far as we know, there hasn't been a huge uproar stating this system is "pay to win". The original definition of "Pay to Win" is the following: it implies you have a system where you can get a specific advantage only by paying. If an advantage can be obtained by playing the game, then, by the original definition, it's not "Pay to Win". Of course all is question of common sense and equilibrium here: if the way of obtaining the said advantage is grinding an incredible amount of hours, making it virtually impossible or irrelevant to get it by playing then yes, it might be considered pay to win in disguise. But we are nowhere near this situation in Dual Universe (or else, you're welcome to give very specific examples, and not vague assumptions. The examples you have given so far are just too vague to be considered as such). On the opposite side of the spectrum, the expression "Pay to Win" have been used and exaggerated many times over the years. There has been excess on both sides.

In any case, starting to say "some people should be shot down", for whatever reason it may be, is a no go and a direct breach with the forum rules.
Also, resorting to personal attack and/or provocations toward those who don't agree with you is just an invitation for trouble and another breach of the forum rules.

This is the first and last warning.

While your post started in an attempt to convince people from your point of view (which is fine), it quickly escalated in provocations and nothing really constructive. So we ask you to change the way you discuss with other community members on the forum (stop being provocative), or your posting rights may be removed (temporarily at first, and possibly in a definite way if you insist in this behavior).

This topic has derailed enough and will now be locked.

    Best Regards,
    Nyzaltar.

QuidamAzerty reacted to NQ-Nomad in All information about the official Discord server
    Hi guys,

Over the years, Discord has become a key communication tool between players during online games and MMOs, as well as a way to keep in touch with development studios.

Dual Universe's community has been no exception to this. It has become clear that Discord is an essential element in maintaining an active community, gathering instantaneous feedback when needed, and connecting with Dual Universe’s ever-expanding playerbase.

That's why all players are encouraged to join if they want to discuss the game with other players. This is in no way mandatory, however, as important announcements will also be made on our other communication channels, such as the official forum and our website.

Please note that, as announced in the past, the server was originally created by the dedicated players from the community. As most players were already connected to this server, they kindly agreed to transfer ownership to Novaquark when we decided to provide an official Discord server. Please give them huge thanks for this.

This thread aims to answer common questions about Discord and the official server. Once connected to the server, we also encourage you to read the #frequently-asked-questions channel.

    What is Discord?

Discord is a free-to-use voice, video, and text application. It is one of the best tools for communication between players from all around the globe, and currently has tens of millions of users. It is available on PC, smartphones, or on your web browser.

For more information, you can check their website and especially the help center.

How to join the Dual Universe server?

    Go to https://discord.gg/dualuniverse:
If you are already logged in with a Discord account, you will be presented with an invitation page where you can "Accept the invitation".
After accepting, you will then have access to the server from your server list in the left menu sidebar. If you do not currently have a Discord account, you will be prompted for a username before accessing the server.
Please note that doing so will not create an account just yet, but Discord will propose you to do so. After this, just follow the prompts. If you you are not logged in, but have an account, there is also a link at the bottom to login.
After joining, please take the time to read the server rules in the #server-information channel.

If you are new to Discord, they have a useful help center which can help you understand the interface and settings

    How is moderation done?

Like most official Discord servers, moderation works far more efficiently as a community effort. We'd like to thank the moderation team, made up of chosen community members, for their dedication to making our Discord server a great place to discuss everything related to the game.

A big part of this team is made out of the people responsible for the creation of the server, as they were already experienced and happy to help. We greatly appreciate their commitment!

How to sort out conflicts on Discord?

If, as a user, you encounter any issue on our official Discord server, please contact the moderation team first.
Should the moderation team not be able to resolve the issue, only then should you contact the Novaquark staff with their permission to do so.

In the latter case, please make sure that:
You have tried your best to solve the issue with the moderators first. The problem is genuine, and you include facts and evidence (not hypotheses, assumptions, or hearsay).

What is "linking my Discord account"?

By default, there is no link between Dual Universe game accounts and Discord accounts:
Anyone can create a Discord account and set the nickname they want. In the Dual Universe game, forums, or websites, the same person may have a different name.
    This is fine and normal.

However, on the Dual Universe Discord server, there are also restricted channels under NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) for players who have access to the Alpha. Some roles are also associated to backer titles (for those who want to display them).

For those who want to, it is thus possible to match their Discord account with their Dual Universe account. We call this process "linking" your accounts. It is entirely optional, but this is the only way to access channels under NDA. The linking process is done from the community portal, on the page where you edit your profile. It is as simple as clicking on a button and accepting the Discord prompt (you may need to login to Discord first). You can see a step-by-step guide below.

Once completed, a custom bot made by Novaquark will update your roles and your nickname on the Dual Universe Discord server (just give it a few minutes, it manages thousands of players!).

What is the bot exactly doing?

For all players who have linked their Discord account:
It gives them the "Verified Identity" role. It changes their Discord nickname to match their Dual Universe name on the DU server. If they have access to the Alpha, or if they are an ATV member, it gives them the corresponding roles. If they have backed the game, and chosen to show the corresponding title, it also gives them the corresponding role (like "Gold Founder" for example).
For all players who have not linked their Discord account, it removes any of the above roles.
It also applies the same actions to players who unlink their accounts.

Pro tip: As long as a Discord user has the "Verified identity" role, you know who you are talking to, as their nickname is guaranteed to be the same in-game and on the forums. Please note, however, that this only works on our official Discord server.

Step by step guide for linking your accounts

On the community portal, go to your profile, click on ‘edit’,and go to the Discord tab:

Click on the "Link my Discord account" button. You will be redirected to Discord.
If requested, login to your Discord account:

Discord will now ask you to allow the application to access your username.
    Click on "Authorize":

You will be redirected to the Community Portal, where a confirmation message should pop up at the top of the page:

Note that we only record your Discord id, name, and discriminator (the four digits near your username) when you link your Discord account.

How to unlink your Discord account

On the community portal, go to your profile, click on ‘edit’,and go to the Discord tab:

Click on the "unlink your account" link at the bottom.

The page will refresh and a confirmation message should pop up at the top of the page:

Note that unlinking deletes all information previously recorded (id, name, and discriminator).
    We hope this helps!

    Cheers,
    Nomad
