joaocordeiro got a reaction from Vhaeyne in These tax rates are absurd.
    Yea, i have to agree.

What ever the mechanic that NQ thought about for justifying taxes is not a urgent one.

The taxes should be dynamic in nature with small adjustments every month.

When ever NQ sees the need to raise the taxes, raise them.
But dont start with and absurd value thinking about how it will be needed in 10 years when DU has 10M players.

joaocordeiro got a reaction from Zireaa in DU suffers from an identity chrisis since JC got sacked. What kind of game are they even making now? Anyone?
And what was the great, well defined identity this game had before JC went out?

I dont think that DU's issue is missing an identity.
I think DU's issue is not providing sustainable joy for most players.

A fix of most issues, would be adding NPCs, avatars and ships.

Maybe that would confuse the identity of the game even more. But it would make it sustainable from the emotional point of view.

joaocordeiro got a reaction from Underhook in Explanation of severe performance issue. Attention Devs
The devs gave some explanation a few weeks ago.
They said they were replacing the current mining system with automining because the current mining system forces players to dig around.

Digging around changes the procedurally generated world and this adds data to the database that has to be streamed to players when they enter rendering distance.

They will preform a full terrain reset and remove current mining mechanism soon. (check announcements)

In theory this will greatly reduce costs but also greatly reduce the data the client downloads and computes upon.
    Dramatically increasing performance.

So, try again after the update happens.

    Hi Noveans,
Thanks for the warm welcome! Since I've joined I've been amazed by the incredible job the Novaquark team is doing, working hard on delivering the dream of Dual Universe. I’m also very impressed by how you, our community, have been supporting the DU project from day one. Let's all keep moving forward together!
    Cheers,

I wish ppl would stop proposing ideas that create more pain to players.

The inflow of ore was fixed in day one of beta. With NPCs buying ore.
Some ppl with no experience in economy pressured NQ to remove it.
The fix is to admit it was needed. Not to add more pain to an already painfull game....

    @NQ-Pann

Terraforming is also required.... most ppl invested points to dig to ores.
Now you say that digging is an activity damaging to the servers. So any talents related to digging need to be returned...

But in the general view, this change you guys are making changes gameplay completely, full talent reset should be made, so ppl can choose new carriers.

A little off topic. But, by far, the best "we dont have a clue" moment from NQ was a youtube AMA when JC was dreaming about the possibility of stealth bases underground and how hard it would be to find them and in the next question some one asks how hard is it to find them when you can only make a base in your owned territory and those can be seen in the planet map.
That was the time when JCs face went from "dreaming" to "no F clue" in less then 10 secs.

I am against the pain of grinding. And i am in favor of most mining being done AFK.

But this does not mean i like the idea of removing one entire feature from the game.
I think ppl willing to mine should be able to mind, just like Empyrion. You can set autominers but you can also dig a hole and go mine.
Empyrion also provides the solution for the growing world voxel problem.
From time to time the tunnels dug by players close up.

But while writing this reply, something occurred to me.
What if NQ's problem isn't just the database size but also the database traffic?
What if they found out they can reduce the database speed(and cost) if players dont keep sending voxel change updates?

I believe and allways have believed that a game should release with a full wipe.
But NQ promised players that their beta stuff would count for release......
NQ was wrong in letting the money of the new subscriptions be more important than the fairness of a buggy beta game.

The effects of 4 ppl exploiting the game do not only affect those 4 ppl. Their ammunition suppliers got richer because they sold the ammo at an higher price to the exploiters, their factions used their factories mounted with exploit money, their alies were defended by ships mounted with exploit money.
Their competition was destroyed because they could not compete with an exploiter.
How about those other 100 exploits?
How about all those ships with staked engines? How about those players that did not use that exploit?
    How about the tutorial exploits?
It is naive to think only 4 ppl were affected....
If we are to make a wipe to correct the impact of ppl using exploits there is only one alternative. A full wipe.

Having said this, every wipe has to have a reason.
This patch only requires the planet terrain to be wiped.

And in my opinion, there is no point on doing a full wipe now. Bugs still exist. Exploits still exist. New features will bring new bugs and exploits.
A full wipe should only happen if there is a technical requirment or at release.

    Why wipe everything except constructs?
There is no technical requirement to wipe those other things, just the world voxels. So the reason to wipe something else is to make a gameplay reset, maybe for players to have a fresh start with this new set or rules.

So why would NQ leave constructs out of a full wipe meant for a fresh start?

It looks to me that you have tailored this wipe you proposed to your specific needs.

Then why do we even have to mine?
Why dont they give us admin tools and we build their "player-based" content?

Thats the BS you tell your self to justify that a wipe should not happen.

But the reality is that we are here for a beta test.
When things break during beta, the developer has to fix.
If the current player data(aka quanta and assets) is broken because of bugs (and its exploits) it has to be fixed.

The only reason they promised not to wipe was to make all the alpha players to warn their friends with: "This is it! If you dont buy your subscription now you will be years behind current players"

joaocordeiro got a reaction from Bollox in Add game to steam for more players
Nope, subscription based games are not impulsive buys.

Anyone that likes space games and is willing to pay a subscription is already aware of DU's existance.

The reason this game does not have more players its because of the state of the game and bad reviews.

Adding this game to steam(at this stage) will create:

    Development overhead.
    Less income from each subscription.
An obligation to have a return policy.
    Several new contractual obligations.
A new place for bad reviews to be displayed.
    A negative feedback score.

How will any of this help?

Well while i agree with most content, I dont agree with it being obvious..

JC was surrounded by white knights that would defend his vision to the last key press.
Several questioning sessions happened with ppl not asking those "obvious" faults.

We dont know how much experience NQ devs actually have in gaming we know JC fired some gaming personnel.

And the ground breaking technology is there.
The way voxel world moves around you gaining detail in approach is a ground breaking tech.
The way the servers feed data to us is a ground breaking tech.

To me this game failed in the manager.
Not questioning and adapting the vision of the visionar.

joaocordeiro got a reaction from Bollox in LEGION has won DU
This is a symptom. But its not the real problem.
Legion is only the current "face" of the problem.
If they are defeated some new "face" will be here, oppressing players exactly like Legion is.

The real problem is the lack of strategy in DU.
There are no "strategic points" to defend.
Legion is free to send their entire fleet to any location in the system without suffering any consequences.
Even in the pvp zone, there are no consequences on retreating.
It's not like the retreating party is loosing an important strategic point.

The game strategy is resumed to one metric. More = win.

This is the perfect scenario for a hegemony to grow.

The game is the problem, not Legion or the players that dont want to fight Legion.

Not implying. Its a clear application of the law to break a monopoly.

    And there are precedents.
EU forced MS to open up office document standards to allow for other office programs to open them.

How far away is to require binaries to also be portable?

MS abuses its monopoly positions in many fronts. One of them is the binary ecosystem.
